The thread named "rip off" reminded me of this. Who out there knows the song Butterfly by Crazytown? Well, they stole the ENTIRE melody line from the Red Hot Chili Peppers from a song called Pretty Little Ditty. Anyone else know similar rip-offs?

yeah i know of that one....
but eventually they (Vanilla Ice and his label) openly addmited that they used a sample of "Under Pressure", rather than saying "it is a different beat" as they previously had. So i dunno if that still counts as ripping it off......

reguardless Vanilla Ice sucks a big bag of dicks.....even today.

Pagan's Mind's "The Prophecy Of Pleiades" rips off Dream Theater's "Learning to Live" at one point. Not only does it sound similar, but the lyrics are similar.

The Prophecy Of Pleiades - "Walking through winter woods at night, a star-lit freezing sky, with confidence and self control..."
Learning to Live - "Walking through winter streets alone, he stops and take a breath, with confidence and self-control..."

I know what you're talking about it was on VH1's remember the 80s and they played both songs but I found absolutely no similarity in the melodies but maybe I'm just retarded.

*takes a deep breath reminiscient of Ace Ventura: Pet Detective*

The Japanese Hit "Yatta" is a rip-off of the "Graduation Song" by Vitamin C which is a rip off of the the "GE Soft White Light commercial song" which is a rip-off of "When U Get There" by Coolio which is a rip-off of The Farm's 1991 single "All Together Now" which is a rip-off of "Go West" by the Pet Shop boys which is a rip-off of "Grandad" by Clive Dunn which is a rip-off of "Hook" by Blues Traveller which is a ripoff of Rondo of Beethoven's Grande Sonata, op. 28 which is a rip-off of Pachelbel's Canon in D.

Just about every song has a list like this, and this isn't even a complete list, but you get the idea.

If I'm not mistaken, the Ghostbuster's theme ripped off Huey Lewis and the News' "I Want A New Drug".

Jessica Simpson's "I Think I'm in Love with You" samples from Rod Stewart's "Jack and Diane".

"No More Drama" by Mary J. Blige samples the theme from...I think it's The Young and the Restless.

Oh, don't forget about the "Superfreak" and "U Can't Touch This" parallels...

The soft-rock pussies known as Live released a song in 2003 called "Heaven" that sounds an awful lot like "Yeah!" by Billy Corgan's now defunct band Zwan. The only major difference is the vocal melody, but everything else sounds almost exactly the same.

There's this car commercial, I think it's by Honda, that has this music that makes me think they ripped off the bass guitar riff from Radiohead's "The National Anthem" and changed it a little so they wouldn't get sued.

Yeah, Vanilla Ice had the balls to rip off Queen.

And I just heard on the radio the other day, I forget who it was, but they ripped the guitar riff from the White Stripes' "Seven Nation Army".

Pisses me off.

It's not a ripoff if Jagger and Richards are given song credit in the Verve's cd booklet. Dumbass.

LOL. Yeah, that's pretty funny. As part of the agreement Jagger and Richards recieved ALL of the profits from that song. So the Verve is a one hit wonder band that didn't even make a dime off their one hit.

I missed that, somehow. Not like the stones needed another dollar. Their tour is a ripoff, I wish they'd bite the dust already. Richards already looks like a mummified body.

Cannibal Corpse's 'Hammer Smashed Face' is a rip off of Morbid Angel's 'Chapel of Ghouls'.

Chapel Of Ghouls was made in '88/'89, Hammer Smashed Face was made in '91/'92.
