What are the ways cops can trace calls? The way I got caught, was when they put a tracer on the victims phone, and when I called back, I was on long enough and it decoded *67, and my number was revieled. Can they trace your number if you've alredy called, and are not calling back? Do the cops/victim have to go to court to trace the call, or can they just tell the cops to do it? What are some common ways that people know about? Thank you, and I'm sorry for posting this much stuff in one day :o !

well i know that cops can't easily get your number (if they can) if you don't phone back..and yes the poeple who tell the cops about all the prank calls just need to sign a small legality form that says the cops can monitor their phone line and use anything on it as evidence...bla bla bla....anyway...good luck
they don't need the cops to do that.. All they have to do is press *57 after the call and it will trace it for them, but they won't get the number. The phone company will have it incase they want to give it to the police and etc. I've had someone trace my call before and when I got off the phone my phone company called back and said we've been reported and blah blah

yeah i need the same help i called the victim on thursday and left a message on the phone, then i called today and i heard they called the cops and stuff im really freaked out anyone fill me in i live in canada so i think there is a *57
If you didn't give any threats and stuff like that they can't do anything, and plus a majority of people who say they called them cops lied. Old people are normally serious for some reason though

If you didn't make any threats, is it that they can't do anything because you didn't do anything illegal, or that they are not going to waste their time tracking you down for not making a threat???

They can't do anything because you didn't make any threats, but if you keep calling them they can report you for harassment. Besides that they can't do anything because they can hang up the phone at any time not like your forcing them to stay on the phone, but the best way to not get in trouble is to get telemarkerters and stuff like that.

Can the cops do anything about slander? Slander is if you call someone up and lie to them, EXAMPLE: I call a restaraunt and say I found vomit in my food. I'd like to call someone up and impersonate an attorney, but I don't know if it's legal to do. What's the deal with slander???
I wouldn't impersonate a attorney but I don't think anything is wrong with it.

you dont need to call back for them to get it if an operator can do it in 10 seconds im sure that the police can
lol, this reminds me of a prank call I heard. These kids called an attourney, said that they were being enslaved by an American, beaten up, and harrassed by monkeys. Talk about a close call

Can't they use *57 or have the cops trace it by lying and saying that you threatend them, even though you didn't? How does *57 work? If they use *57, can you hang up real fast and not get caught? Can you escape *57?

use a callin card or go through an operator...then they wont be able to get your number as quickly....
Heres good advice.... don't keep callin the same person... cause yes theres a much higher chance they will call the police if you do.... and never call them back if they threaten to call the cops....

Just use a calling card if they wana call back it will come up as the calling card number so you don't even need *67 they are cheep to i got two 60 min. cards for only $10.00.
