After seeing the first movie, I was looking forward to a sequel. The first one was awesome +Rape points. Having just watched the second one last night, all I can think is "Hmmm..." it's just.. tacky. Your thoughts?

I knew it would suck because Alexandre Aja had nothing to do with it. That movie sucked.

Yeah, it really did not hold a candle to the first one. The first truly fit the definition of horror. This one was just kinda...eh.

Man, I had countless people telling me the remake was a good movie. People saying shit like "No, no. I hate most remakes, I hate Texas Chainsaw remake, I hate the Amittyville remake, but this one is actually GOOD!" So I finally decide to see it, and it fucking blows. Not in the least bit scary. The only parts that had any kind of tension to them were the scenes that were basically taken shot-for-shot from the original, and even then it wasn't good because they dragged everything on too long. And it had some of the most mindless gore I have ever seen, and I mean that in the worst way possible. They didn't even try tying the gore into the story. The good guy is walking through a house, looking for someone to kill. He gets captured and is locked in a chest with blood and body parts. He breaks out, then goes back to walking through the house looking for someone to kill. He is captured, then escapes capture, in about 30 seconds, and goes back to doing exactly what he was doing 30 seconds ago. It was the most randomly pointless thing, just so they could show another pool of blood.
Really, the original wasn't even THAT good. It's fun in a grindhouse sorta way: cheap, poorly acted, over the top villain kinda way, and it's fun to see cause it's the beginning of Wes Craven's career. You could basically excuse all the shitty stuff in the original, because Craven's skill pulls off some solid, suspenseful, scary stuff on what should have been an all around terrible film. But the remake just sucked ass in every way imaginable, and there is no excuse for any of it.

I saw part of the remake and didnt like it.
You mentioned The remake to the amityville horror, I think i'm the only one who finds that movie alright. I thought it was aactually pretty entertaining...but scary? no
EDIT: I bookmarked the link in your sig, it seemed to be a good read. good job there.

Have only seen the first remake by Alexandre Aja. Just Spurplin makes a good point. If I were to describe the movie in one word I would say it was plain BRUTAL. It isn't very scary. It's just fucking brutal and intense. I wouldn't go so far as to say the movie fucking blows, but it is NOWHERE as good as his famed High Tension, which if you haven't seen, go see it.
I have not seen the 2nd movie yet, but I have heard from everyone that it completely blows. I have not heard one good or even mediocre review.

I thought it had some creepy moments. Like when hes walking through the mannequin town.
So far Alexandre Aja hasn't let me down so hopefully Mirrors wont suck. Though it just reminds me of Poltergeist III.

The first was creepy and awsome! Number 2 sucked ass! It was corney, stupid, and the acting was horrible (spoiler) when that guy got pulled into the cave hole.... COME ON! How fucking stupid.
If you haven't seen it, watch it for the lulz.
