Um, most of those bands sing about the same subject matter as every metal band, so dont complain about rap doing the same. Go pick up anything by A Tribe Called Quest or The Fugees if you dont want the "pimps and hos" of modern rap.

it seems odd to me that someone can make millions of dollers by saying, not singing, profanity. i know in the music i listen to they swear and stuff but yea there is actually a point to the song. theres talent in the singing and guitar and drums and everything. theres actually meaningfull lyrics. but in rap (in general) there is just a beat and a guy talking in to the microphone about how he's a pimp, or how he murdered this guy, or how he has many b!tches and hoes. most songs have completely pointless lyrics. sure the rapper may have some talent rhyming but im sure everyone can rhyme to some degree. to me it's absurd it is that artists like 50cent and Chingy are making millions of dollers every day when there are good artists and small bands that can't even get a cd put out. these bands actually have talent and they can sing and play instruments and all there songs sound different. they arn't just swearing into a mic. but i don't get why all of a sudden everyone wants to be a gangster and why rap is so great.
but unlike some people i do respect some rap artists like eminem. he does have talent. there are a few rap artists that yes they are very good at rhyming and stuff but then tehre are so many more rap artists that just got lucky and thats the only reason why they are in the busness. i mean if everyone in G-Unit didn't know 50cent do you really think they would have a record deal? and that is why i hate rap so much. it's because most artists just know people and that's why they get record deals. then those artists put out bad songs that have no meaning what so ever and are only intended to make money. those rap artists take away from the good rap and that's why im sure alot of people hate it. because artists with the intention to make moeny and live the pimp lifestyle are clogging up the system with their bad songs adn the actual good rap artists rarely get recognized.

Rap takes extreme talent to perform. However, I have come to despise it for gloryfying the "thug" lifestyle (And don't come back at me with 'well try this or that band, they aren't all thugs!' because you know DAMN well what i mean).

The genre of music itself is just overly stereotyped, and mainly by the people that listen to it. All to many times a group of "homies" will stroll down the street listening to 50 Cent and just start harrassing random people. Is that because of the music? Intelligent people say no, and I can agree. But stupid people use it as a medium to do stupid shit and think it's "cool" to rape and murder and all this other shit.

The same can be said for rock and roll....but not to the same extent, not by a long shot. Rock and roll has it's own problems, hell yes it does, with the recent upbringing of that band who wanted to get someone to commit suicide onstage, to the classic Ozzy biting the head off of a bat.

When you weigh them both, it seems that all too many times, unfortunately, the true spirit of why rap music is written comes out. It might be theraputic to the writers to make such music, but with mindless bullshit like "bad influence" by Eminem, cmon, that shit isnt needed, that's not even a good rap song at all.

You might think I'm biased, well I'll tell you right now all the bands I like are either Hair Bands, Grunge, or 80's metal. But that doesn't stop be from being open-minded. I had a rap phase, and I'm sure any rap lover can agree with me that rap nowadays is becoming stupider. Eminem may be an exception, because his music is getting better (in my opinion). Dr. Dre was the KING of good rap, and when you put those two together, you get Forgot About Dre. The best rap song I've ever listened to.

I am by NO means a "thug" or "gangsta". Hell, I'm not even a minority. It comes down to what your fancy is. As long as you don't illustrate the points of the music (such as pimping hoes or killing people, or yourself) then there is ABSOLUTELY no problem with listening to ANYTHING. Well, I feel that rap and rock are on the same level of lyrical depth. As in rock, the best lyrics/music come from artists you don't see on MTV or hear on the radio, for the most part. Most rock bands you hear of sing about breakups and other depressing stuff, and most rappers you hear of rap about the "thug" lifestyle.

But if you go to the more underground stuff on both the rock and rap scenes, you find better music and better lyrics, in both styles of music, IMO.

Tupac is indeed the angel of "gangsta rap", by despite having such harsh acts to sing of in his lyrics, he actually was a really kind-hearted person. His movie makes no claims to being the most talented rapper of all time, ever. And I doubt it's true. I'll give Eminem more lyrical talent, but way less morals.

Picking between rap and metal is like picking between a strategy game and a first person shooter.
Its a matter of what you're into.

I hate the artists more than I hate their music. They go out on stage acting like gangstas and their homies and their hos and how dangerous their lives are in the ghetto, but of course they're millionaires who go home to their mansions afterwards.

In my opinion most the talent in rapping is coming up with good lyrics which many rappers are able to do. But then anyone can "sing" the way they do. I like metal more than rap but I could probably rap much better than I could try to sing a metal song which if its good requires talent. There's not many instruments to put any talent in either in rap. Just drums sometimes, maybe some precussion, and a dj. Anyone can hit a metal can to a beat, but not everyone can pick up a guitar and play it good. I know I can't, but perhaps thats a reason I admire those who can.

Not all metal is that great. I reallly dislike slipknot's second CD (Iowa), too much screaming. Corey Taylor (singer of slipknot) has a lot of talent though, and I really enjoyed the Stone Sour CD and Slipknot's Volume 3 where there wasn't as much screaming.

The media is obsessed with spreading this idea that Rap is the best type of music out there. And all that rap is about is being gangsta. The message that many stupid people out there are getting, is that its best to be gangsta.

Picking between rap and metal is like picking between a strategy game and a first person shooter.
Its a matter of what you're into.

I hate the artists more than I hate their music. They go out on stage acting like gangstas and their homies and their hos and how dangerous their lives are in the ghetto, but of course they're millionaires who go home to their mansions afterwards.

In my opinion most the talent in rapping is coming up with good lyrics which many rappers are able to do. But then anyone can "sing" the way they do. I like metal more than rap but I could probably rap much better than I could try to sing a metal song which if its good requires talent. There's not many instruments to put any talent in either in rap. Just drums sometimes, maybe some precussion, and a dj. Anyone can hit a metal can to a beat, but not everyone can pick up a guitar and play it good. I know I can't, but perhaps thats a reason I admire those who can.

Not all metal is that great. I reallly dislike slipknot's second CD (Iowa), too much screaming. Corey Taylor (singer of slipknot) has a lot of talent though, and I really enjoyed the Stone Sour CD and Slipknot's Volume 3 where there wasn't as much screaming.

The media is obsessed with spreading this idea that Rap is the best type of music out there. And all that rap is about is being gangsta. The message that many stupid people out there are getting, is that its best to be gangsta.

Agrees. A lot of rock bands' singers play guitar at the same time, but most of the time its just adding noise when the only guitars that should be playing are the actual guitarists and not the singer, then the singer can just focus on looking good and singing well.

One thing that I dislike is that some rap fans seem to think that they can rap about ANYthing, ANYwhere. I was in SCHOOL friday and like 4 student's, I'd say Juniors or Seniors, were blocking a doorway me and the rest of the class had to go through, rapping. Most of us were late since we had to squeeze through one at a time in a class of about 40 people.

I bullsh*t not, their song (I'm not really sure if rap "songs" are called songs) sounded exactly like this: "Smokin the rocks, Rollin the blunts, Chillin with homies, smackin the hoes, down in the hood".
