I've been keeping track of this bill since Congressman Frank announced he was submitting it, along with a bill for medical marijuana. It started with just Ron Paul as a cosigner; the personal use bill is now up to 5 cosponsors; the medical marijuana bill is now up 15 cosponsors. Only about 3 of the cosponsors are republicans; this includes Ron Paul.

I think a lot of potheads are anti-gun because they are misinformed about guns (like most democrats).

Well if you think about it, 1920's-1950's everyone believed the reefer madness stuff, 60's-70's everyone hated the freaks and hippies that were smoking it, 80's-90's there was the Just Say No, crack epidemic which was a big news story. People's opinion on weed is probably pretty different these days. I have higher hopes for this time.

I don't really see the overpowering need to legalize marijuana. The system we have in Canada seems to work well, that is, the stuff is still illegal but the police/government arent fucking hounds about it.
I don't want to commercialize mind-altering drugs anyway. Fuck that.
I think a lot of potheads are anti-gun because they are misinformed about guns (like most democrats).i for one am pro-drugs and pro-weapons

i've tried to tell them that before but people always refuse to accept my opinion as fact.
Not with that attitude it won't.
It would still have to get by President Bush, would it not?

Shut up with your logic; just because people who smoke it want it to be legal, that's enough.
I mean, I think it should be legal but I know it'll never happen.

Yeah, I think it should be legalized as well, despite the 'prophecies of doom and gloom' that would come from the prohibitionists.

It's a loooong process. Haven't you ever seen that Schoolhouse Rock song? President Bush probably won't be president anymore.

Hey, I'm a NORML member, but I'm also realistic. The political climate remains too inclement for any anti-prohibition measures to be voted into law, even for marijuana. Cannabis remains Schedule One illegal and not widely accepted for its medical usage. There's much progress to made on the drug freedom front, and without any yielding by the prohibitionists on either reclassification or medical pot, full-blown legalization doesn't seem forseeable. Personally I don't see it happening in my lifetime, but I'm pretty cynical about our masters...

Won't pass.
Agreed, too much money involved in the imaginary war on drugs.
It would mean billions of taxed dollars saved at the expense of axing hundreds of thousands of useless parasitic jobs.

I don't think there's been a House vote on a bill like this since the mid 70's.
Also, Marijuana wasn't made totally illegal until the controlled substances act. The Marijuana Stamp Act of 1937 required a hefty tax on all owned marijuana; so how could this be going through since the 20's?
I think a lot of potheads are anti-gun because they are misinformed about guns (like most democrats).
Why are people talking about smokers as if they're a collective group?
since when do all smokers, such as myself, think alike?
That's really odd when people talk like that.

Yeah, you're right, I'm glad we don't have commericials on television, in print, on the radio, or on billboards for mind altering drugs. Yep, none at all...

Out of all the things to make a big deal out of in this pathetic country. . .it has to be marijuana.

I can't wait for a country to just drop all illegalisation of marijuana to show the whole world how pathetic the demoisation of weed is.

I'm going to build myself a country somewhere in the Pacific after the whole volcanic process and what not, claim it as my land, and then make marijuana completely 100% LEGAL.
Then I'll get huge amounts of tourists and my economy would sky-rocket.
Then,
Then...
I'd use that money to take over the world....

wat. I'm not talking about commercials, I'm talking about allowing big ass companies to distribute marijauna. We can't really say for certain what would happen. But I don't think companies putting additives and shit is completely out there.
What I think really needs to happen is simply increase understanding of the stuff and curb demonisation of marijauna and other drugs that leads to smokers being persecuted and drugs surpressed for massive damage.
That way, we have less gangs selling drugs and using the money to buy guns and shit, which can be partly blamed on the war on drugs. We also prevent dickhead corporations from fucking with the stuff.
Just my two cents.
