Article is extremely stupid (http://www.videogamer.com/features/article/27-06-2008-450.html)
Sure the lighting is hugely different, but look harder and you'll see heaps more detail and effects that make Gears 2 look almost a generation better than its predecessor. We don't need to tell you that though; decide for yourselves by pouring your eyes over the five comparison shots we've presented for you over the next few pages.
Someone needs to explain to them what a generations difference actually is ...
Anyhow what do you expect nowadays ...
So if any of you are interested to see if Gears of War 2 will push the graphical barrier up a generation check out the link.

The graphic look great, just as I'd imagine them to be. Gears of War isn't trying to push the graphical edge, but rather the gameplay edge. So far they have about 4 different game types that all sound awesome. New weapons such as flamethrower and burst pistol. Not to mention the large scale campaign and online battles that you will face. GoW2 will blow Halo 3, CoD4, and many other games out of the water. Hell I still play GoW all the time, probably one of my favorite games since Socom 2.

The first looks better. It has more colours and the buildings in the distance are clearer.

I thought I was missing something. Thank God I'm not the only one who thinks that. Seriously though the graphics in GoW2 look really good but I don't see how it's an improvement.

Yeah I think the first one looks better.
for some reason the second one looks more washed out and jagged.

lol @ the first pic, look at where the statue is on top of the building, look to the left... nothing really in the background? now look at the same place on on the lower pic... lol wtf do mountains just grow after a year of war?

Is it just me, or does it look like they just changed gray to brown, put moss and grass everywhere and made the suit shinier?
But seriously, the graphics look kick ass.

only difference i can see is that everything is tinged with brown in the second one, has more glare and is less clear..

duh, are you fucking retarded?
I think the 2D plants are a nice little touch. Saying that, I don't really care if they're the same or not, I know it will be a fun game.

It just shows how well Epic designed the Unreal 3 engine, by managing to max out the performance with their first title, still though they've made a few optimisations along with the much better physics.

I can't wait, graphics look awesome, and if the game is half as good as the original then it'll be a fucking blast.

They only changed the lighting to a "Hollywood lighting" in this level. Looks like they wanted to give it an old and solitary look. If you look at the other levels, they look much more clearer.

Oh, and way to conclude that the game has sucky graphics because of one level, faggots. /doublepost

Too much bloom makes your game look like shit. I've always found bloom in general to be annoying.

It's possible when they set off that bomb underground that it could have caused the mountain to grow. Idk

Otogi, 2002. Earliest one I know off the top of my head. I'm sure some earlier titles used light bloom as well.
It's still used because it works quite well. It's a decent way to smooth out the edges on polygons in games without removing from the overall detail too much. The real nice part is that you don't suffer as much when you need that extra detail, i.e. dark areas.
