Best way to start IMO is b.net.
Make your own game (password protect it if you wanna solo) and just get a good feel of the game, then later you can play with others and what not.

i was just thinking about Blizzard right, and if you think about it, Blizzard could "sell out" (i don't mean sell the company) and make hundreds of millions.

if they got a team together and made a console version of WoW they would get like 5+ million extra subscribers. then they could release D3 on PC and on consoles and sell about 10 million copies of D3.

I believe blizzard will give you a new CD key for free if you send them all of your discs and leave a note explaining what you are missing/what you need replaced, I did the same with 2 of my discs and a CD key, they charged me 10 dollars, but I think that was only because they replaced the discs as well.

If it's not free, it's only 10 bucks.

I almost cried when I had my first level 80 Barbarian, I was young at the time and some mysterious stranger asked me if I wanted some "cool items". Me being a complete noob to online games replied with "sure!". He asked me to fill my inventory and go outside of town, I walked out of town with my bags full of potions. He killed me and all of my gear fell onto the floor.

I just sat with my jaw open, I ran back to my corpse and he was picking everything up. I was like "FCK U, I HATE U!!" into chat and I eventually got over it and made a Necromancer.

EDIT: Frost, you can't I'm 99% sure. Just make one on Battle.Net and you can play alone if you lock the room.

Go straight to multiplayer, you can't transfer your char from single player to multi, it's the exact same thing except with players.

You don't have a 'main' attack yet, which Fury will be.
You should try to get to level 31, and then get a Ribcracker (http://battle.net/diablo2exp/items/exceptional/ustaves.shtml). It should only be about 5 perfect gems.
But if you want to complete this game more easily, you should try a summoner necro. At which act/quest are you?

Lol, i had a necromancer many many year ago, it was good, for a while, once i was into the later acts/difficulties it sucked though ! got his level pretty high then just one day stopped playing it from how pathetic he was. They should have made the necros minions better in PvE, i had alot and they were strong and theyd still end up dead. Not sure if anything in patches would have changed stuff now, but from what ive noticed if anything dungeons etc are even more difficult !.

My new copy of D2 and LOD will hopefully arrive tommorow ( fingers crossed ) then i'll reinstall and get online !.

Those bigger ones give me like 1/1000th of my experience bar. It's hardly noticeable. The little ones are in groups which racks up the experience a bit better.

I guess our play styles are different. He goes through shit quick; I focus on killing everything, collecting all the money, and weeding through all the items for something good.

You'll find various qualities of gems, and if you cube 3 of the same (eg. 3 flawed sapphires), you'll get one of a higher grade (eg; 1 sapphire). Perfect gems & runes are currency. But I'm not sure if it's possible to trade if you don't play on battle.net.

I'll continue and see how Fury works. But level 31 seems so far off. This is my second druid already. Last one I fucked up because I didn't know about builds. He had a bunch of different spells that ended up fucking weak since they were so spread out.

Those bigger ones give me like 1/1000th of my experience bar. It's hardly noticeable. The little ones are in groups which racks up the experience a bit better.

I guess our play styles are different. He goes through shit quick; I focus on killing everything, collecting all the money, and weeding through all the items for something good.

Oh yeah, I made a barbarian called Julia too. But I'm sick of Act 1.

It won't take long to level up to 30+, just speed up the process by hitting all the quests hard, if you want to get extra xp and find items you should find places to do item runs, i.e when im bored and im in act 1 with a new char, from what i remember it was the burial grounds that has 2 dungeons, item runs were good in there even for a new char i'd find some really decent items !, but as i said before, i've no idea if its any different now!. You'll come across places that give you good XP and you'll notice so you can return at a later date for XP runs.

oh fuck DRUID, fury doesnt work well at all, and spirit of the barbs is pretty much a dead skill. if you play druid make it elemental, i tried for the classic tank from back in teh day and tahts long since dead. its a task just to beat meph in normal at level 50...the only thing doing damage is fury. kinda since weapon speed now affects it....it sucks

Low damage. You'll probably also find yourself using bone spear and/or spirit much more, but that shouldn't matter too much because they share synergies.

Quick test shows that damage of a fully synergized lvl 20 teeth would do 299-403 damage, whereas bone spear does 1267-1347, bone spirit 1972-2140. You could think that teeth does more damage because it shoots off more 'missiles', but bone spear goes through enemies, as well as doing 3x the damage.

You could try it though. I found this build (http://forums.diii.net/showthread.php?t=320645). It does look like a fun one, and skill boosters could up the damage substantially according to that. Keep in mind that the 'Marrowalk' bug mentioned in the build has been fixed in the latest patch. As far as I know.

Sounds good, make sure you're putting points into skeleton mastery, and like 1 point in amplify damage/decrepify or iron maiden or whatever curse you like, don't bother loading many points into the curses though, 1 should be enough for whichever curse you use.

You should be able to kick just about anything's ass up until nightmare, maybe late nightmare if you've found some good gear to use.

I got 9 minions including my bow merc and I just rush around amplifying damage on monsters. I took out Andy almost by myself with the help of a Paladin's aura and assassin's bombs.

I can't wait until I max out my skeletons (melee and mages), get a good golem, and resurrect demons intact.

Hmm if that is true, i may make another online when my new D2 + LOD arrives, i really enjoyed playing my summoner but once i got to high levels it became really shitty and next to useless, i would need other party members to make it even worth playing and of course its useless in PvP and i think i gave up on it in the 60's. But if they are better than before i think i'd have alot of fun again and with the knowledge the higher levels wont be so anti-necro summoner.

Although it will be a hard choice between that and a whirlwind barb as i have fond memories of whirlwinding all over the screen and killing other players.

A summonmancer in pvp is funny. He teleports (enigma runeword) on to the enemy, and all of his 20 or so summons are clustered on the enemy.

As far as I know summonmancers aren't that bad. The hardest part is getting the first monster down to spawn the skeletons.
And the common style for summonmancers to play is to use the skeletons as a wall, and wait for the first corpse to drop. Then they use corpse explosion, which does "60-100% of Corpse Hit Points" damage and is deadly when combined with amplify damage.
The focus lies more on corpse explosion than pure skeletons, or at least that's how I played one.

I USED to be good with barbs, not forgetting i was pre LOD and when it came out i didnt feel id like to switch to it, but if they were anything like before then i would go with dual wield swords or spear, i dont like the idea of a barb with a shield though lol.

WW barbs generally don't use shields, trade it off for some nice one handed swords (Bloodletter for example is a very good WW barb sword)

In PvP I see most Barbarians using a Stormshield with Whirlwind. I think that shield is one of the most important things for your barbarian to have, I've always used it with mine.

WW barbs generally don't use shields, trade it off for some nice one handed swords (Bloodletter for example is a very good WW barb sword)

Please do not ever ever ever trade that shield for a shitty Bloodletter, those things give you lots of skills, yeah, but the damage they do is pretty shitty. + skills don't mean much for a barbarian anyway, especially when you're trading off lots of damage for them.

I think barbs only use shield n sword if they know they're gonna be taking bad melee damage. Say if they were fighting assa's in pvp or something. Obviously you do a lot more damage with 2 2 handers though.

So I downloaded the torrent, it told me to mount the iso file on alcohol 120, I did. Then I installed the patch and copied the crack to the folder. When I try to play it tells me to put the diablo cd in. what'd I do wrong? What can I do to fix this.

i dont think you copied the crack to the right folder, has to be in your install folder to replace the exe and you have to use that exe.

Ok mount it, It should either pop up or if not go into your my computer and click on your virtual drive it made for you. Should pop up, Install it. After its done installing open the folder you installed it to, copy the crack in it and replace the old one, thats it open the game through the exe and play.

sounds like your not putting it in the right directory, go to my computer > c or d drive what ever you use to install on if you only have one drive then its gonna be c drive > then my programs > diablo 2 and put it in there.

You don't need much strength as a summoner.

As for a Golem, I wouldn't bother putting more than 1 point in any of them and one in Golem Mastery. They're not really worth using any more, even though they're some of the coolest looking summons in the game.

But you don't have to listen to me, play the game however you want to.

Edit:
The Fire Golem has the most health with just one point added, can do the most damage (which isn't much at all), and has the largest mana cost (240 at level 20).

The Clay Golem is the easiest to re-cast because of his low mana cost,(not as low as the Iron Golem, but the Iron Golem requires an item to be used). and also is the only one which increases his health per point. Giving him the most health when maxed out.(10600 with both clay Golem and Golem mastery at 20). His damage at level 20 is still shit, which doesn't matter much, because none of them do enough damage to be very useful anyway.

The Blood Golem also has lots of health with just one point added, it also steals some life from it's enemies for both of you, (About 86% of the damage done at level 1 is stolen, which isn't much at all considering that he only does 6-16 damage at level 1 in normal, and 10-27 in hell). And he also hurts you a little bit when he dies.

The Iron Golem has a thorns ability, which isn't very useful since it only works for him and not the rest of your minions. His damage is shit, and his health is nearly the same as the Fire Golem's. He requires an item to be summoned on, and even with a decent item it still won't be much help.

In the end, I would say that you shouldn't look at the damage as much of a factor, the only major difference in them would be the health. If you have 40 skill points to waste on Golems, you should max out the Clay Golem and Golem Mastery, he will only cost 72 mana to summon and will have 10600 health (about twice as much health as any of the others).

If you're only planning on putting one point in any of them, then it's just your preference, would you rather have a Clay Golem with low health that costs 15 mana, or an Iron/Fire golem with 3-4x more health for a higher cost? Or you can go with the Blood Golem which is kind of in the middle.

TL;DR: Clay Golem if you have 40 points for Golems, otherwise, it's your choice on what to use.

I used to play a Summoner ages ago, I always thought Diablo had the best Necromancer class of any game. Finally got to Hell with the new character today, damned if the pets can stay alive for longer than a minute or two against most big groups, and they seem to do very slow damage even with Amplify. Did they nerf the Summoner or something along those lines? I recall being able to breeze through anything in Hell with just skeletons.

As for the Golem question, though I didn't ever max one back when I played, what available points I had left over after I had maxed the other priority skills I put into Clay Golem. For big boss fights a Clay Golem's slow added with Decrepify would make most hard bosses a breeze.

I installed just the other day, its the D2 Play cd you insert at start of install i dont know why, but it asked for it and seemed to do stuff with the files, then it asked for the actual expansion cd again.

You just want to put enough points into strength and dex as the armor you want requires; which means not a lot at all.

Just go with 1 into clay and 1 into mastery. Focus all on skeles and mastery first. Put one point into amplify, iron maiden, and life tap. Later on when you get a lot of skill+ equipment that's the best thing. Also, get a merc from nightmare act 2.

Sanctuary (http://battle.net/diablo2exp/items/runewords-110.shtml) is a runeword, requires 3 socket shield.

Large shield (http://battle.net/diablo2exp/items/normal/shields.shtml) is the first shield that has 3 sockets. Requires 34 strength. You'll probably want a better one though.

You'll find more item info on that website, so you can pick and choose what shield you'll go for. You want high defense, good block rate, and/or a certain 'type' (light/medium heavy) because of run/walk speed.
Also keep in mind that runes have level requirements, so you won't be able to use sanctuary until you're level 49 (lvl req for the Mal rune).

Sanctuary is a runeword, and a runeword is a specific combination of runes put into sockets in an item.
You have to find a 3 socket shield that you think is good enough. And the 3 runes. You won't find those that easily, so you'll have to trade. You'll need currency for that; runes/uniques/perfect gems/sets/good items. The only 'quick' way of getting runes worthwhile would be to do the Hellforge quest (http://battle.net/diablo2exp/quests/act4.shtml) on hell difficulty, which gives you a random rune. Can only do it once/character though, and the rune might not be worth enough to trade for the ones that you want.

If you're really new to the game, I'd just play a bit with the items you find and can afford, and maybe just follow the skills laid out in the guides + pick and choose. I think you're getting ahead of yourself.

Yeah, you're not going to be able to afford a sanctuary shield for a long, long time. Just play with the stuff you find/buy from merchants, or you might get into a game where they give you free gear. No one is going to be dropping anything amazing, though.

Most guides for D2 classes tell you the FINAL equipment to aim for i.e what you'll be using when you've completed your build type, which is usually judged finished at level 80-90, so just do what im doing and get your hands on the best you can as you go along, at a later date you'll get the items your aiming for. Some people spend hundreds of actual dollars to get there whole builds items, i think thats silly and its definately more fun to just play and work towards your items.

One person can just get their keys from a key generator, the generated keys will be banned from battlenet but you can use it on lan.

You should try playing HC, although you probably already have. I find Softcore to be boring after a bit aswell, so once i turned HC i never looked back really.

fought the diablo clone today, i dont know the whole concoction with sojs and selling, but he appeared in my game. well the words came on the screen 'diablo walks the earth' and i read up on it a few weeks ago so im basically on my mule, so im like fuck no way points..and someone else is in the game so im in a hurry to get diablo spawned before they do, so i run fron act 1 to the cave in blood moore, ran all through the cave and finally found a unique monster that became diablo. waited til everyone left, got my bro on and we killed him for the annihulus or whatever.
