It was recently announced on the news today that the Governor of New Jersey, McGreevey has come out of the closet. It turns out he is resigning since he had an affair with another man and that led to corruption or something like that. I think this will have a big political impact, what does everyone think. I am a NJ resident btw.

Good riddens. It's just another scam by the democrats to ensure that they win the election again next year though.

How is it a scam if McGreevey is a democrat, if anything it would be fodder for Republicans.

Do you forget Torricelli already? He was set to lose according to the polls, and pulled out to switch with another man (Lautenberg) who royally trounced the competition.

I still don't see how it's going to benefit democrats. It seems like it's just like clinton being ripped apart for the lewinski thing. But perhaps you're saying it will help democrats in the long run. Thanks for the response though. :)

He is not resigning until Nov 15. Which is after Election Day. The senate president will then become governor, he is a Democrat. The Democrats are hoping the scandals will blow over by next year’s election.

That takes real balls. Admitting to your mistakes, and taking responsibility for them, but the right will still eat him alive for this.

Seriously, we live in a very politically corrupt state. I really haven't liked any of the governors I have had the fortunate of living through. This includes the republicans Whitman and Defrancesco. [Both are Republicans]

As for McGreevey, he didn't need the Republicans to rip him apart, because he was already a very unpopular governor in a predominantly Democratic state. Had you lived here over the past two years you would know:

1) On the radio you hear ad followed by ad of McGreevey promoting himself, paid for by taxpayer money.

2) Also on the radio you would hear about corrupt events happening with his people from the moment he took office.

the new jersey constitution says if a govenors seat is vacant 60 days prior to a general election (which is in Nov.) the citizens have a right to elect a new govenor. so if McGreevey were to resign today there would be a new election for the govenor of Jersey.

McGreevy decided not to resign until Nov.15 which is after the general election, therefore making the senate president (a democrat) serve out the rest of the term until sometime in 2006. McGreevey did not resign today because the dems don't want a govenors election to coenside with the presidential election because the 'front-runner' for the new govenors seat is a popular republican (Bret Shundler). they feel if their govenors election takes place on the same day as the presidential election all of the huge republican voter turn-out thats gonna go out and vote for Schundler are also gonna vote for president bush. trust me, this situation has been strategically planned out by the dems all along.

i personally think it would be best for McGreevey to resign now. i mean honestly, give the citizens of New Jersey the right to vote for their govenor! but politics are politics...

I agree, if you are going to resign, resign now. Him waiting for nov 15 is just one last page in his corrupt biography.

The governer showed some spine coming out like he did, but I think the huge golden sac award needs to go to his wife. I can't imagine what she's feeling inside. It definitely ain't him tho.

Don't know too much about him, but I will say it takes alot of guts to get up and do that. Kudos to him for that.

But, I do feel sorry for his kids.

He really does not deserve support for doing what he did. He did it to avoid further criticism. Early when he took office he gave his early gay lover the position of Homeland Security head in NJ, only to in turn have to fire him because he was not a citizen of the US. But, for some reason, the man was kept on the payroll. Rumors (which are very likely true) say that this man is going to sue Mr. McGreevey for sexual harrasment. However, McGreevey played it smart, acknowledged a relationship [which will help to blunt the attack of sexual harrasment] while avoiding a public brouhaha.

Our state is rather screwed up politically. But Bret Schundler who may run for governor next year would be a nice addition to Trenton, because the established politicians don't like him very much [Reps or Dems] and thus he'll be able to avoid the corruption since he won't owe them anything.

So, he did it to avoid further criticism. But, it doesn't take away from what he did. I mean, imagine yourself in a position like he is, going to the national media, and saying you had a gay affair. Not an easy thing to do.
