Hope someone here can help me with this. After installing my new 8800gts I ran into a problem with my HD DVD drive. Right now I have it unplugged and the machine runs fine but as soon as I plug the power into the drive my computer slows down dramatically taking upwards of 10 minutes to boot and after it does boot the drive still doesn’t work. Anybody know how to fix this?:banghead:
Pc specs:
Vista 64
4gig ram
Core 2 quad
8800gts
Even upgraded my power supply to 650w

Could be the power supply or the sata drivers.
Also you might wanna see if there is a firmware update for your product

Yeah I finely broke down and contacted costumer support and He suggested the same thing. I’ve tried to unplug the cables to the drive and whatnot. I’ve also updated the bios but I’m unable to find any firmware updates. It’s like the drive has completely stopped working but I don’t know why the computer would take so long to boot up if that was the case. I've even tried unplugging the power to the good cd drive to see if it was just a power issue but it still does the same. As for the power supply I upgraded to a 650w when I got my new card.
Hell I would be ok with it if my assassin’s creed disk was not stuck inside it…:wah:
So take a paperclip and stick it in the little hole in front of your rom. its the emergency release hole.

My guess would be that for some reason the drive and the new video card are somehow fighting for the same IRQ. It is windows taking forever to boot up that leads me to belive this.......have you tried putting your old video card back in to see if the drive works?
It is even possible the Drive and Vid card are fighting over a scsi or IDE channel I have seen video cards trying to use weird things like scsi and even IDE channels before.
Without knowing your PC setup I would also suggest changing the Drives designation....ie if it is IDE change it to either cable select, or slave..... if it is scsi try bumping its number up by 1
