Oh yes...I'll be playing.
http://www.eqclassic.org/

Q: What expansions will be available on the EQC server?

A: Initially, only the first three continents will be availible play. After a duration of about six months, we will unlock Kunark and then Velious about six months after that. This will ensure that people who find the server even after it has been up for a while, have a chance to level their characters and don't feel too behind.

Q: Will the EQC server be PvP or PvE?

A: At this point, we are working hard to finish the PvE aspects of the game. We have no plans on making this a PvP server but may find a way to integrate the two concept where everyone can be happy.

Q: Will EQC ever have custom items, spells etc added to the game?

A: The server's sole purpose is to provide a place where players can relive their experiences and once again enjoy this amazing game. It will therefore not have custom content or anything that detracts from the original classic feel.

Q: When will EQC's be released?

A: At this point, we don't have a good idea of how far we are from release. It takes time to make sure that everything is stable and works and we will have a better grasp as we have more time to develop. Rest assured, when we have a good timeline for a beta testing, we will let everyone know.

Q: Previous EQ emulated servers have been known for their lag and bugs. How will EQC differ from them?

A: We do not tread lightly upon the word "emulated" for a few reasons. Something that is emulated has the connotation that it is full of bugs and problems. Popular EverQuest emulators constantly try to chase the live version of the game and implement the newest expansions, all the while ignoring broken features that haven't been fixed from previous expansions. We plan to iron out all of these bugs and issues before players can play so that the experience will be exactly that of a live server in 1999-2000.

Q: How will I obtain the necessary files to play EQC?

A: We will let everyone know before the server is released what files are required to play.

Q: Will it cost anything to play EQC?

A: EQClassic will cost nothing to play and there will never be any incentive to donate to support the server, save for the good feeling you will get inside.

Q: Will 2 boxing or multi-boxing be allowed in EQC?

A: Multi boxing for those who aren't aware is controlling two characters on one computer through tabbed windows or other such means. It will be prohibited on the EQClassic server. We feel that there is are strong reasons against playing more than one character and are implementing ways of finding and banning those that do. Do not worry about this being a problem. Simply play one character and you will be fine.

Q: Which versions of the EverQuest user interface will be available?

A: You will be able to choose between the original UI and the transparent movable Velious UI.

Q: What will the level cap be?

A: When the server is released, the level will be capped at 50. When Kunark is released, the level cap will increase to 60 and will remain that way through Velious.

Q: Will item 'x' be in the game? Will spell 'y' still do as much damage?

A: These are all instances that we will deal with case by case as the server nears release.

Q: How many characters will be allowed per account? What are rules governing this?

A: Eight characters will be allowed per account. This is simply the number of character the client allows.

Q: Will casters have to look at their spellbooks while meditating?

A: Yes. Players will enjoy the excitement of looking at a spell book during battle.

Q: Which of the original exp penalties (class, hell levels etc) will we see in EQC?

A: The experience will be exactly that of the original game and will include race and class penalties as well as hell levels.

Q: Will there be guilds?

A: Guilds will be a vital part of the game and will be fully implemented by the time the server goes live.

Q: Will there be GM events?

A: We plan on holding regular GM events to keep the server fresh and exciting. Best of the Best contests will definitely be a part of the server further down the road.

Q: Will all original quests be implemented?

A: All of the original quests will be in the game.

Q: Will epic quests be implemented with Kunark, and if yes, will it be in their original state?

A: We plan on including epic quests. As for exactly what "version" of the quests will be included, we have not yet decided.

Q: What is EQC's definition of "Classic" "the way Verant intended"?

A: We believe that there was true potential in EverQuest. It was an amazing game that occupied a lot of our time but we believe that Velious was the last good expansion. The game progressed, but the original feeling of amazement was lost. Cats on the moon. Clicking books to be shot across the continents. These were but some of the reasons why we feel that EverQuest lost its excitement.Brad McQuaid, Bill Trost, and Steve Clover were key in the development of the game and when McQuaid left, the game began to go downhill. We feel that had the original team stayed together and focused, EverQuest today would be a much different game. Hence it is our duty to continue the game as Verant would have before it was bought out by SOE.

Q: After the expansions have been unlocked, will we keep the game entirely original - or possibly enable Luclin AA's later down the line?

A: We do not plan to venture into Luclin or the alternate advancements but we do however have a number of ideas for ways players can expand and we can introduce custom content still true to the original game without the huge inconsistencies from The Shadows of Luclin.

Q: With EQC, will EverQuest lock the screen once again, so that players cannot minimize the game?

A: Players will be able to run the EQClassic server in a window or in a full screen setting.

Q: What will be EQC's naming policy?

A: Although we believe that players should be able to name their characters whatever they choose, there are definitely limits to this. Please do not name your character Bigdong. We will make you change it. We will be enforcing the same rules that were in effect on the live servers which prohibit common fantasy names, name brands, etc.

Q: Will player languages work?

A: Languages will be fully implemented by the time the server is released.

Q: Will the factions work proper on this server?

A: Yes. All factions will be implemented and working properly.

Q: Will Charisma take effect (such as cheaper prices when buying stuff from a vendor)?

A: Yes. Players with a higher charisma will be able to purchase goods for less money.

Q: Will there be GM's in EQC and if so how much interaction will they have with the community?

A: The GM's on the EQClassic server will be around to keep the peace and make sure the server is free of problems and exploiters. GM events will be a large part of the server as well as community run events such as naked Gnome races.

Q: Will there be Guides in EQC and will there be positions in which people may apply for to help the community?

A: There will be guides. We have not decided how we will choose guides for the server but they will be need to conduct themselves in a professional manner and will be tested extensively before being granted powers that could be abused.

Q: Will developers and GM's play the game? What special benefits will they receive?

A: Most developers and GM's will likely play on the server as well. They will however be given no special powers and or advantage over other players.

While I fully support the resurrection of the good old days of EverQuest, these servers probably won't have proper funding, nor are they heading down the path that was true to EverQuest.

On the brighter side, SoE will be launching 2 more of those progression servers they launched last year! You will definitely catch me on one of those.

I disagree with this paragraphed statement.

Cool.

I hated the whole "clicking books" thing. I want to get a party together and fight through a huge forest just to reach the next town... I don't want to click a book and teleport. The expansions sort of took all the mysticism away from the game.

Go back to perilous journeys and epic battles.

SyDias- I actually thought that paragraph was spot on. I played EQ from original release. Kunark expansion was really cool, so was Velious, but after those it went downhill.

I'll most likely play when it's released.

Anyone interested in perhaps getting together and playing when it's finished? It'd be nice to have some people to play with.

I think I'll prolly play a shaman. Or a druid, again. It's nice to be able to solo, but also to be useful for group as well.

I loved Kunark and Velious, however, I don't think EverQuest went downhill after the next expansions, but to each his own. Many of my old buddies agree to disagree as well. Some believe it was the beginning of the end and some like myself believe those next expansions made a huge impact in the right direction.

Either way, I don't think anyone would disagree that the game itself is a masterpiece, that has no successor.

Funny...pretty much everyone I know that played EQ all agree that the downfall of EQ began after SoV. I too agree that paragraph is spot on.

And yeah I wondered about the server staying on a well performing server...if you think about it though...we're talking about a game made in 1999. THe back end hardware to run this game will cost a LOT less then it did back in 1999. Bandwidth though, yeah that could be a concern. The Devs though have posted that they have things in order to handle it.

Here's to hoping...

It's no secret that Luclin pretty much killed Everquest, always felt near the end of SoV and the beginning of Luclin the majority went from having fun to having to be "uber".

Back when you could submit to become a Guide/GM on EQ's website I became a Guide on Rallos Zek. I swear some of the funniest memories I have of EQ was just watching people PvP on that server.

I'm sure they have the right hardware for the job, however, my concern is with the longevity of the servers. The old days of EQ was probably one of the largest time sinks an MMORPG has ever seen. I don't want to invest months maxing my character's level, come to find out they'll have to shut down the servers due to funding...

I wouldn't mind paying out of my pocket to support this, to be honest!

This seems bad ass. Will there be discs or like Downloadable Content off the website?

Multi-boxing took away a lot of the shitty grind. Meh.

SK + SHM, for ever! :)

I can remember times dual boxing in Solro making my fortune selling the ornate patterns that dropped. It's a shame that they're not going to allow more than 1 boxed character.

So to the guys planning to play- is there any interest or not from you guys to form a guild when it starts up?

I'm not even sure if I want to waste my time considering this is a free service with no funding.. :err:

I dunno, I'm up in the air about it... As for a guild, eh, all depends on how long this lasts..

You will have to download their EQ client. I am sure it will be on a torrent site or something so they save on bandwidth. And remember the original EQ was very small compared to today's games. I think the game in total was MAYBE 1gb? Someone else might remember more vividly...

As for a guild...I plan to join a guild but I would like to join one that is not hardcore but still has enough members to go do a Vox/Naggy raid or poke our heads into Fear/Hate. I doubt we could field that many people on these forums alone...

And SyDias, I am suspect of the funding as well. I mean reality is it takes money to pay for bandwidth and unless they are piggy backing this on some really shady backend (like on someone's work network) or they found a cheap hosting service...I would be suspect like you as well. And if the time comes they ask for donations I will gladly throw them some money. Even if it closed down early for some unrecoverable reason I will still be happy I got to play it a little bit.

I don't know about you guys but I am fucking bored with the MMO games right now.

WoW sucks...played it from release to about 4 months ago. I'm done with the faction grind idea.

AoC is failing...I unsubscribed from that shit.

I am mostly playing Mass Effect on the 360 getting my Adept to lvl 60 in preparation for ME2. *sigh*

No way buddy. Not after everything they did to it. I expect at the very least a 5-6 gig install after everything is done.

I don't think they'll be going beyond Velious/Kunark expansions. In fact, they don't even plan on adding AA points.
