After playing this game for the last month, it isn't really that great. I'm bored so I guess I'll start a topic pointing out the problems with GTA4.
Ghost traffic. You look down a street and see no cars, but, the second you turn the camera 360 degrees there's a shitload of peds and cars that just popped out of thin air. Really makes this city feel empty and not lively.
Pop in. When you drive really fast or fly a helicopter at a low altitude buildings and textures won't load fast enough and you'll have to stop or slow down so the game can catch up. Peds and traffic also won't load either, they load when the environment is done loading.
Bad framerate. It's smooth most of the time, but if anything is crazy going on the framerate will drop. Not acceptable, all games should atleast have the framerate locked at 30fps.
Seriously you think with the PS3 and 360 they would have fixed these problems.
Graphics aren't that great, from 2006. It's ok, but not state of the art.
Game stops living after you finish the storyline. You'll occasionally go bowling or whatever with friends after the storyline, but it is really repetitive and boring.
A safehouse back at the Broker/Dukes area would be nice
Repetitive missions. Atleast 40% of the missions are drive here, have a shootout and escape. Past GTA missions were a lot more varied and overall better.
Nothing to spend money on.
Options in multiplayer that only get abused. Lock on, which is fucking stupid, should always be off. Only fags play with lock on. Option to change traffic and ped amount. Should always be medium traffic with low peds, anything else is laggy as fuck and will drop the framerate.
Still no lobby.
Problem with infinite loadscreens with moving in multiplayer
10 out of 10, more like 8.5 at best.

Played it at a friends house. Got bored after an hour of playing. It's just like any other GTA but with pretty graphics

while it isn't a perfect game, I think people are nagging about things on it that they wouldn't on other games.
As for the game being over after you've finished the story, that may be true, but that's how it is for 95% of all other SP games. Not to mention, the main story was fucking long, but everyone played it obsessively for 2 weeks and finished it quickly.
San Andreas > GTA IV. By far.
Hell, Vice City > GTA IV.
But GTA IV was still a damn good game. That's just how good the GTA series is.

You have to take into consideration that SA was built on a tried and true engine with a formula that worked brilliantly, while GTAIV was kinda a re-haul of the series. I guarantee the next installment will blow all of the out of the water.

I'm gonna have to agree with you. If Rockstar listens to their fan/criticism, they'll retain Euphoria, the graphics, all that jazz, but they will also bring back the fun stuff from previous iterations. Jetpacks, bikes, planes, buying property, businesses that build money, etc. etc. It was a great next-gen starting point technology wise, they just gotta go back and fill the emptiness that plauged GTAIV.

Oh, you think GTA IV is good? How would you know? Every time I try to play a multiplayer game with you you're too busy jer--not playing video games.

i agree... 8.5 at the BEST.
Also agreed. I bought the game the day it came out, like everybody else, but after playing it for awhile I honestly thought all the perfect 10 scores were ridiculous.
I still havent even finished the story line, the missions just got SO boring and repetitive for me. I mean its still a great game, and I think what they did with the city was just amazing. But perfect scores? No way.
The first 30 minutes i played it i was amazed. It really impressed me the way it begun and that i knew finally i can play it. But as the game unfolded it didn't really ever seem to really lift off.
The missions are very repetitive, there are a few good ones though but overall they are all very similar. It makes me laugh when i remember how people were getting boners over the graphics in the first trailer. IMO, apart from the lighting, the graphics really aren't that amazing. The story is alright but not that different to the structure of all the others. IMO the whole multiplayer set up is awful. There's some nice new features and nice attention to detail but this isn't enough to make this game a '10'

I think the same. While I do think it is a good game, which is fun to play, the storyline just isnt making me go back to find out what happens next. I still havnt finished it. Any time I play it I just find myself having fun around the city and not doing the missions.

I give it a 7/10.
I bet game sites got paid by rockstar to score it a 10/10.

Honestly the only review of GTA IV i've seen on this site that is worth a damn is The_Canadian's review. He actually listed the negative aspects of the game. Practically every other person's review of GTA IV has been: "omfg that game sucks ass" or "it's fucking boring lol" or "I bought it when it came out then returned it shortly after ROFL!"
I have yet to play it but from what i've read I can't trust any of these reviews. I have yet to be be disappointed from a GTA game and i've been a fan ever since the first GTA 1 came out on PC. I think you guys were expecting some sort of extreme change from the GTA formula with this game and it didn't happen.

Don't get me wrong guys, I liked GTA4, but game reviews made it sound like it was the best game in the world, like it could cure cancer. It made good use of euphoria, the graphics are pretty decent, the car handling was great and the soundtrack was excellent, but really. When I first got GTA4 I was like "wow this is pretty neat" and played around for the first 20 hours of the game. After I started doing missions, played around a bit, kept doing missions. Around 50% into the game I just rushed the missions, because they were boring as hell. Other than the occasional mission, most of them were drive here, kill these guys, and escape. Another thing was the story
SPOILERS DON'T READ IF YOU DIDN'T PLAY
What I mean is, Roman introduces you to Mallorie. Then Mallorie introduces you to Elizebeta. Then Elizabeta introduces you to Packie. Then Packie introduces you to Ray. Then Ray introduces you to Phil. Then Phil introduces you to Peg. It's just a string of characters, non of them feel as if they are in the whole story.
GTA4 is good, but not a perfect 10 excellent. I still recommend a pick up if you haven't played it.

The gaming industry would never stoop so low as to take payoffs from developers and publishers. How dare you question their integrity.

The thing i hate is that all niko talks about is how he wants money so much and he does everything for the money.. and you cant do shit with the money. He puts such a big emphasis on getting money, for nothing.

The entire interface for the multiplayer sucks ass. It takes me at least 15 minutes to find a game.... Each time I select a game type I get a loading screen and then I get kicked back into the SP. It takes me about three or four tries to get into a game.
They need to patch that.
I was playing the single player last night and I noticed a website in the game that had a lot of expensive cars and a phone number. You can probably buy cars.
The game was fun but there is no replay value what so ever, i mean all the side mission are the same exact thing and there is no real feeling of accomplishment, money has no value because a five dollar tool booth that i never pay and a one dollar hot dog doesn't seem to affect my 500,000 dollar bank account. Online play is soso but i have come to the realization that i only play free roam to mess around when i get bored of cod4 or skate. with my friends. The story was pretty good but predictable like most other gta games and they really didnt introduce nothing that "new". It was fun for a month, but i already traded it in with no regrets.

Sorry man, phone numbers in the game don't work. Only 911, ZIT and some specific numbers in missions. I've tried =
All the # on autoeroticar.com, none work (except for one number specific to a mission)
All the # on craplist.com
555-RECRUIT (LCPD)
555 2222 and 555 3333 (Roman)
Russian shop # on the sign
etc...
Another thing was that throughout the city there are "For Sale" signs on buildings and a number. I thought that you could call the # and buy the building (using the useless money) but it doesn't work.
Fuck they should have real working numbers. Maybe you have to call the numbers in RL?

Welcome to 6 years ago. The GTA series has always been overrated. Ever since GTA3 it just went downhill.

I don't think so. After hot coffee, R* released GTA:SA V2 which was unmoddable. They might not release GTA4 with modding abilities

I think we have a serious case of 'not playing the game properly before reviewing' here.
If game journalists took alittle more time over it they would have dropped the scores.
Personally, I've never enjoyed any of the Grand Theft Auto games.
*facepalm
The first game I became addicted to after Ocarina of Time was GTA 3, at the age of 12. From there gaming hasn't been the same. Vice City had me hooked for months, and don't get me started on San Andreas. In conclusion, GTA FTW.

I was told that the single player was worth it alone, and multiplayer was god awful.
So i rented it, and i played the single player and enjoyed it. I played the multiplayer for about two days and quit, and returned it. To this day, GTA4's multiplayer is the only multiplayer i have never liked. And that says something because i have liked every other multiplayer on every game i have ever played.

It's decent.
I would have LOVED a GTA4MMO, no matter how long it would have taken, but gamespot liked it enough to give it a 10, so there you go.

I checked it out for about 20 minutes and thought the driving was so awful I said to myself there is no way I'm going to buy an X-box AND this game to be so frustrated in a matter of minutes. Horrible driving physics. Once gain a game company fixes something that wasn't broken.

No way, the driving was perfect. Here's a hint, don't floor it unless you're going in a straight line
