Hello,

I have a data CD I burned in late 2002. I believe the computer at the time was running Windows 2000, but it may have been XP. Right now I'm running Windows XP Pro and my computer doesn't recognize any of the files on the disc. I can browse the disc and the filenames are intact, but when I go to open them they don't work (except for .txt files). The disc itself is in near-perfect condition.

Any ideas how I can recover the files? If more info is needed please let me know.

Thanks!

Your computer can't read? It must be a nigger.

Btw, that was a nigger joke.

Is it CP on the CDs?

what exactly are these files? You may not have the right program to open them. A screenshot would be nice.

You may have copied them to Adobe and now you need a new Adobe reader installed to your new comp. What is the extension on the file....

.rtf or .doc

davido, why would this matter? Wordpad can open up .doc, of course, horribly, with the empty boxes everywhere, but it's readable. And word can open up rtf's just fine. Maybe I'm missing the point of that post?

Hi all,

Wow, thought I had subscription turned on and didn't realize people had replied.

Anywho, this CD has mp3's that won't open. I try Winamp or Windows Media Player and it says the files aren't in a recognized format, even though they were burned to the disc as mp3's. The word docs were saved as .doc files.

I'm wondering if the CD was never closed properly. I have a copy of the burn software but unfortunately it's only supported by Win2k.
