Hey I was looking into getting a new video card, and I happened to notice that my power supply is only 300w. If I plan on getting a new card, I need a new power supply. My question is, will any power supply work with any motherboard, or are they specific?

Check the amount of pins in your current motherboard attatching the processor, count them, then decide on a powersupply. Most decent mobos are ATX 24pin, if you have an older 20 pin and plan on getting a new videocard, look in the nvidia midrange 7000 series.
You probably need to upgrade.

It really depends on the type of card you're running and whatever else is drawing current from the PSU.

My old build had a 350w Antec Power Supply and it powered my 6600GT & 7600GT just fine.

I upgraded my old PSU to an OCZ 600w and purchased an 8800GT, which is running perfect.

OCZ is known for having PSUs with out-of-spec ripple. I'd stay away from them (I bought one before I found out). The only comfort for me is that the ripple only occurs under heavy usage.

my 650w running fine for over a year and only cost me £20

most power supplies have either a 20 + 4 or just 24 pins so both should work no problems

this is a 20+4 in case you get confused as to what I'm on about

Pretty good, how many amps does it get on the +12v rail?
