View Full Version : WoW - Practically powerleveling...legal.

PokemonMaster

This is fucking ridiculous. (I know it's not really powerleveling, as you're doing it, but you understand me)

From WoW.com

With the new Recruit-A-Friend program you can earn an exclusive Zhevra mount, receive a FREE month of game time, and gain access to other exciting in-game benefits. From the moment your friend creates a character and starts playing you’ll both earn triple the experience when grouped together and have the ability to summon one another from anywhere in the world. Also, for every two levels of experience your friend earns, they can grant one level of experience to any one of your characters.
__________________________________________________ _____________

Let's break this down.

Mount and free month aside, lets calculate leveling.

The average level 50ish mob grants About 400 experience.
You are grouped with your partner... That's 1200 experience each per kill.

So you're level 50 by the time the average person would be...say...30.
Now in addition to that, you leveled with your friend the whole time. You're both 50, so you gain an additional 25 levels from him. You're now level 75 where the average person would be 30.
Jesus, fucking, christ.

WoW Gold? Probably. Powerleveling? Hell yes.

Blizzard keeps looking for ways to destroy the Gold seller's market.

Honestly, I don't see the problem here. Games change, things are easier for players leveling up now than they were for players two years ago. If you think it's that bad, just don't do it.

I see it as a good thing. A mentor program is a great idea. The higher level player would be able to go back and help the lower level player, while still gaining a bit of xp.

No, that would be Scroll of Resurrection. You get a free month, but that's it. It has to be a fresh account.

What if say, you start a fresh account through this deal. Then, you transfer a character from an existing account to the new account you just started. Would all the XP stuff still work?

Don't they have a new expansion coming up later this year where the level cap is raised or something along those lines? It's probably just a way to get those that feel they won't be high enough for the new expansion a reason to play. Probably leaves a bad taste in the mouth of those that leveled the hard way.

Hold up. Does the level-granting superpower only work on the first character they make? I'm foreseeing a lot of level to 3, grant level, delete character, repeat action going on otherwise.

Yes, Wrath of the Lich King is due in november/december. The level cap will be raised to 80. Yeah.

I was thinking that too at first, but the level can only be granted to a character that's lower level. So, a level 30 can give 15 levels to a Level 1-15.

alright guys i did the thing, since he had like 2 mid teen characters i made a deal with him to go half and half on the wow battlechest and gametime (he needed time anyway) 30$ & 30$...

first off, i leveled to 10 in 30 minutes, that zebra thing is a 60 epic mount (didn't know that until i sent it to my new char ) and 30 days of time on my account, we can summon each other anywhere in the world. and uh..... lotttttts of people are doing this. and since every 2 levels he gets to grant one of my alts 1 free level its like leveling 2 characters at once! but yeah i suggest you do this with that friend that has a bunch of alts and can't commit... were probably gonna be hitting 20 tonight so.... yeah.... fast leveling to get back at blizz!!!

WoW is the only MMO where people give more of a shit about getting all the best gear than anything. If you look at the WoW forums, youll see people going LOL I GOT ALL MY TIER * GEAR LOOK AT MY SCREENSHOTS!~!!@

If you look at any of the old EQ/CoH/Lineage/FFXI/etc. forums, you'll see that 99% of brags and boasts are about taking down raid bosses (which are 99% harder than the pathetic raiding in WoW in the first place).

This is because the gear is so fucking overpowered. Twinking is not a problem in ANY MMO but WoW.

I see what you mean but WoW felt like a break from all that pain in the ass planning and being a good team player just to beat up one boss for like 5 hours (FF11). Arena and PvP are fun if you are doing it with a group of friends.

Warhamer is amazing, and a lot of people in my gaming community are switching over to it from WoW/Lotro/AoC/Guild Wars.

The RvR is really fun, but sometimes with the beta servers only having around 1,000 players on the server usually, it could get a little slow in some areas. But if no one turtles a spawn area, its great fun fighting for keeps and capture points.

Fair play.

Main: 70 UD Mage, Pretty much full s1 epics, few s3 bits, guardian belt. Only blues are my neck, and trinkets (70 pvp trinket, gnomish poulterizer) 350 eng/ 375 mining. Epic mount, no flyer. Got the grunt title.

Alts: 64 human paladin. Old school Knight Lieutenant, few epic mounts.
59 rogue, 59 warrior. Both in TBC greens, with a good amount of honour and marks on them.

Twinks: 59 warlock, full tbc gear, engineering, tbc enchants.
39 warrior, fully twinked.
29 shaman, fully twinked.

You have a few good alts and twinks, people like that. But since you aren't full S3, that probably will kill your price. Your super epic character usually drives the competitive people to shell out the big cash. I dunno, 200 bucks maybe. If that.

I have been off of WoW 10 months now, and I don't regret leaving it, although I don't regret playing it to begin with either. The burning crusade was meh.... but the original game was really enjoyable, back when the world was mysterious, and most of the people you met were also on their first character. It took days to gain a level just because you were exploring cities and towns, and meeting people in the world. That was fun.

What they have now, is a fucking drug. Release new items, sit in the same battlegrounds for hours upon hours, win said items, release new items, repeat. The dungeons are now way too long and repetetive. Piles of alts all doing the same thing over and over so you can have a handful of 70s. Everything is clockwork and mindless grinding. And now they are adding these stupid gimmicks which are made NOT for having fun, but to get more game hours out of people. Good riddance.

Mr.88
08-13-2008, 05:22 AM
Cheers for all your input guys, that was about the price I was expecting to be fair. I tried to sell it to some company which came up on google and they offered $100 :/ I would be happy with £200 though. Where do I go about selling a character? I'm assuming all the companies will rip me off and I need to deal with a player directly.

You guys are forgetting some important details.

1. The triple experience is gained from either player when both of them are green to the mob. So if the mob is grey to one of the two people, nobody gets triple experience.

2. You can only apply the earned levels on alts LOWER than the recruit. So if you and your friend are level 50 and you have been given 25 at your disposal. You have a 33 alt you were leveling while your friend wasn't on. You can only get your alt to 49.

Im using this program right now. This is how I am doing it.

I am leveling/two-boxing a priest and a warrior. I make sure that both characters are there to earn experience for quests and what not (you get triple xp from quests too) Right now they're at 43. When they get to 70 I'm going to take the levels I earn and apply them to an warlock that's level 44 on a different server. Have the character transferred and have that character hit 69. Then do the same thing to a rouge that is 47 and get him to 56.

In the end I'll have a 70 priest, 70 warrior, 69 warlock and a 56 rouge. The only issue I face is getting gold for all the training and mounts.

Flaws, you has some.

As for your warlock to 69..

Once your priest/warrior hits 60, all the "free levels" they've attained instantly dissapear, so add the levels before then. Also, this means that a character cannot get past 60 from this.

You realize that it means absolutely nothing, correct? I mean, assuming a Blizzard employee does nail you, there's nothing you'd be able to do about it.

Your supposed "contract" is void since you're already violating Blizzard's contract.

I'm also assuming you don't have any lawyers, and even if you do somehow, they're probably not as capable as Blizzard's.

In reality, depending on how serious Blizzard is about tracking down account sellers such as this guy, the information he has up already is probably enough for Blizzard to get his account.

An account database with a decent search engine to it would be all they needed. Plug in his various character information with levels, the ones that included race is a plus, then just check the results.

I could go look it up to do the math, but at the very minimum, just the class and race information of two characters has a 1 in 625 chance of matching another account's information. Of course, that's by raw math, not factoring in the fact that different classes and races have variations in occurance (seems shammies are actually pretty uncommon). Since he included the levels and classes of several other characters, you could probably narrow it down to a handful of accounts. I'm guessing somewhere around 10 at the most.

Edit:

Just noticed that he said all of those were on PvP servers. That elminates several things as well.

Oh yeh I'm well aware I would get loved tenderly up the arse by Blizzard. The little disclaimer at the end isn't for legal reasons its to give the customer the feel of security and make it look a little more professional. I'm not some big time account seller, I've been playing my own account for 3 years, just quit and want to get rid of the temptation.

Edit: I didn't write that end bit myself, copied it off someone else.
