theyre prog-metal. alot of there stuff is around metallic-ish in heaviness, but it has alot more skill in it. mike portnoy plays crazy drum melodies and is as much a part of the song as the guitarist. john petrucci (there guitarist) is just one insane motherfucker. he is one of the fastest players that i know of, but he also plays with melody unlike the mindless shreading of michael angelo. i cant seem to find any of their music..but heres a link to a nintendo version of one of their songs

IRON MAIDEN, they would kick metalica's ass, they've been around for almost thirty years and they are going strong (well sort of, lets pretend Dance of Death didn't happen). They got the best stage show like the somewhere in time tour or the powerslave tour. Steve Harris rocks at bass, no one plays bass with thier fingers anymore. fuck picks. And yeah, dream theater is prog rock, kinda like rush. YYZ rocks.

First off, why do you think I heard of them in the first place? Because they were featured, among a couple other bands I've never heard of, in a sidebar of an Evanescence article in Revolver magazine - almost exactly a year ago. And why were they there? Because they're a lot like Evanescence.

And secondly, they're really not *that* similar. Evanescence doesn't have a full time male singer. The lyrics are different too, for the most part.
