Lots of people say it's peircings or wearing dark colours or lots of black makeup or hating life, I really don't think that's what it's about. I think it's about expressing yourself in different ways. I would never label someone or music goth because of how they look. I have my eyebrow peirced and I wear black makeup and listen to metal and wear some dark clothes, but that's only because I like black, and I would like the music I like now even if I didn't wear dark clothes or have my eyebrow peirced. And I got my eyebrow peirced because I thought it looked cool.. I really dont care what anyone thinks of that. But i was just woundering what you guys consider goth. because I don't think any of those things I listed about myself are considered goth. You make think I'm a moron for this thread thing.. but I could care less.

goth is what you believe in and how you express yourself
people who assume just because someone looks a certian way they will autimatically like a type of music are stupid

I've looked at a few sites about goth and the goth movement. From their definition, goth is about tolerance and acceptance of others. The reason why theres an image associated with it is so that goths can find other goths who may have similiar interests. Seems kind of hypocritical since they seem to hang out with eachother yet they are about acceptance and being open-minded. I guess its supposed to be some sort of safe zone for them. An interesting subculture overall.

Kono you can edit your post by going to your first comment and clicking edit on the bottom right-hand corner. You can change your headline and spell consider right, and then you can change goth to punk.

Ive always considered myself an open-minded person. I look down on ignorant asshats, and im considering not using lables anymore. Ill just refer to them by their "Spirits". If its a goth, thats cool, they can be a goth all they want. Ill say they have "A Shitty Spirit" if they are jerks or bastards. Like this one goth, she kept stabbing me with a safety pin in the back...she has "An Asshole Spirit". I guess what im trying to say is that....no matter what they consider themselves, their inner self has a certain type of spirit, and it shows when you see past their cloths and their hair. The thing is, people dont take the time to know people, cuz they are fucking lazy, and they just Pre-Judge before they know the true things. Thats why so many people get hurt because of the way they express themselves. I also hate the goths who act like they want to die....i hate that bad, thats what i like to call "A pantfuck spirit".

Well to keep this thing going, ill say that I met a goth along time ago, and i didnt even know she was a goth until i moved back to America. She was friggin awesome too, thats just a fine example that people dont like what they dont understand.

Goth was a post punk movement started in England in the 80's with bands like Bauhaus and Love and Rockets. The scene is long dead but there are pinheads out there who think otherwise.

It seems nowadays goth culture has died and has become another marketing demographic. That's why you have stores like Hot Topic now, the culture dies, and all that is left is the image, and image becomes a product.

here in cleveland, where i live, we have a pretty hefty goth movement going on right now....they hang out on main streets and just sit and hang out for like 12 hours a day. I don't have anything against them...I hate people who are like...OH NO GOTHS...AHHH THEY ARE IDIOTS EWIE...DIFFERENCES. Because they never take the time to actually meet them. The goths that hang out near my house, if you go sit with them, they'll usually be like hey whats up, whats ur name or whatever.

Well i dont really care about who they fuck people are, i talk to everyone "the outcasts", "the nerds", "the preps", blah blah blah.... we're all the same people underneath our clothing(which is how we usually judge people). Yah they may be ugly on the inside, but you have to deal with people like that your whole life.Get used to it.

Go to hell

I concur. I hate intolerant people.

i think goths are retarted ediots that should go to hell

Well if that's the case, then you're going to be seeing a lot of Goths after you die.

-----------

All I know is that I have a pronounced attraction to female goths, as opposed to any other specific group of females. :D I don't really care to go into what qualifies as "goth". Everyone has their own definition.

You fucking hypocrite. You Want people to not judge homosexuals for being gay, yet you condemn this guy for having an opinion not your own! ( I don't agree with him, honestly)

I condemn him for having an intolerant (and juvenile) opinion. If he had a reasonable, but still differing opinion (like not liking Evanescence for example), I wouldn't act like that. People are entitled to have any opinion they want, as long as they can reasonably justify it. Even without justification they can have any opinion, as long as they know that anyone and everyone can and will think they're a stupid asshole. If he had said "Goths can go to hell, because they're ..... and they ..... and I don't like how they ....." then that would be different. But just saying "Goths suck u guys need to go to hell" is intolerant and juvenile. And until I hear otherwise, he hates Goths just because they're different. And people like that are some of the worst people around.

this whole confusion of what's what seems to be a problem in my town, too. let me clear things up.

punk is not about hating life, piercings or dark colors. punk is a genre of music and a way of life. punk bands are all underground as it is an underground genre of music. bands such as The Unseen, Cheap Sex, A Global Threat, The Devotchkas, and The Virus. punks typically dress in tight plaid bondage pants, band t shirts, jean jackets covered in studs, patches, and pins, and sometimes have spiked hair (but not always). punk is a way of life for a lot of people because they believe in a bunch of things and they usually sing about them in their songs. punks are (99% of the time) anti-war and sing about politics in their songs. they also sing about drinking and having a good time and plenty of other things. they're good people with good intentions. you will NEVER see punk on MTV or hear it on the radio. Good Charlotte is NOT punk, nor is Blink 182, yellowcard, sum41 or any of that crap.

i don't mean to come off as a dick, but i know several punks and i know that shit like this bothers them, so i make it a point to let people know what punk is.

if anyone has ANY questions, just ask.

No, you miss the point. You're the law abiding, neutral, PC type, from what I can gather, and you don't want people to judge gays for being that way.
If people can't have the power to pass judgement based on sexual preference, what gives you the power to pass judgement based on having any opinion at all, justifiable or not?

As I've said before, it's A LOT easier to like/be neutral to something with little to no reason (like I am with Goths) than to be against something with little or no reason. You can't be against something for no reason. And he never gave a reason. That's all I'm saying. But I can't say you're wrong. I'll let it go.

I don't follow your logic at all.

Prove why you can't be against something unjustifiably.

I just think that the "burden of proof" is on the haters. I can't prove it, it just seems common sense to me.

Think of this. A parent asks their kid if they like something. Kid says no. Parent says "Why?"

Kid says yes. Parent says "Great!" or "Okay". What Parent in their right mind would ask "Why?" when the kid says yes? That's my point. I say yes, he says no.

Kid says yes. Parent says "Great!" or nothing at all really. What Parent in their right mind would ask "Why?" when the kid says yes? That's my point.
What if this kid liked to smack other children, what if he liked hurting himself?
By your logic, the parent would not ask why, or even take the child to a psychologist to answer these questions.

Nice job of taking things to extremes. I'm talking about 90% of the time. You're talking about 10% of the time. I really don't care about this anymore. More important things...

u cant fuhking categorise someone by how they dress or there taste in music etc. that is just stupid, it creates room for steriotypes and squishes individuality. i dont think there is such a thing as 'goth' or 'punk' or anything like dat because everyone is individual and different and are there own person. with there own image, and trend followers suck camel dick

Punks and Goths are a trend. People attempt to be different by dressing in all black, tight pants, mohawks, piercings, etc. What these people have to realize is that they are about as different as a lamp post, because thousands I venture to say millions of kids dress the same way across the US & world.

^^ I agree with him up there...lots of people try to prove they're different that way when all they're doing is looking to conform. Does it really matter what we consider goth? Not really. What matters really is whatever you think about yourself. Peace Out.

My take on this... Its all about doing what you want. its seem like this is a guide line but that not what i meant it to be; Herd-conformity is a no no. like that other guy said. its all about yourself :)
