Rugby was there until 1928 or so

And here's a video from the IRB (much like the FIFA for soccer) wanting rugby in olympics : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oY5ybpfmOZ0&eurl=http://www.rugbydump.blogspot.com/

the introduction of Sambo could even streamline the combat sports events, wresting, taekwondo, boxing all wrapped up into one sport plus allowing other fighting styles room for exposure like Wushu, BBJ & Muay Thai ect.

We don't need more Olympic sports we need events that unify disciplines.

MMA is it's own style. You cannot take away taekwondo altogether and expect everyone who has worked their whole lives studying a particular martial arts to just switch to MMA or any combination of arts.

I'm not suggesting it be taken out of the events, I'm suggesting competitors be able to chose their own specialism in events that cater to all disciplines. Sambo.

Sambo

I would but I'm busy.

Is ballroom dancing still an Olympic event? If so they should definitely include lapdancing, they could give points for technique, and also for how fast they gave the guy a boner.

Seriously though skateboarding should be included, it's a lot more skillful than most sports.

MMA would never work cause you'd have to fight like 3 people in 2 weeks, there isnt enough recovery time.

Obviously this is a joke, but a serious strike against it other than America's total domination is that the Olympics last two weeks. That's enough time for maybe 3 games.

Guess you haven't heard of MMA events where fighters fight multiple opponents in one night, see Pride, Dream promotions. Like in any sport getting hurt in the prelims screws your chances of getting to the finals. Being able to pace yourself, avoid injury & perform well enough to get into the finals is what top tear sports is all about. ;)

Unless you mean "Combat Sambo" which is different from regular Sambo, its not necessary, as Judo is already in the Olympics. Sambo is the Russian from of Judo. It's nearly identical. I think the closest thing to MMA would have to be Combat Sambo, which allows strikes. It probably has a better chance of getting in under that name, instead of mma, as it has been a recognized form of wrestling/martial arts for a while now and without the negative critics.

MMA would never work cause you'd have to fight like 3 people in 2 weeks, there isnt enough recovery time.

Actually, that is not uncommon in the sport of mixed martial arts. Don't let the extreme length of time off for fighters in major promotions fool you. A lot of mid level fighters compete multiple times in a span of 2 weeks as a living. Also, a number or promotions have had tournaments where multiple fights occur on the same night. Add that Olympics will probably require headgear in combat sports and possibly shin guards and larger gloves and tweak the rules to be less damaging and you see guys come out of the fights will little damage, especially the winners.

Why not football?

Peyton Manning wants it- no joke!

I am writing on behalf of weplay.com- and Peyton Manning is behind a campaign to make American Football an Olympic Sport.

Seriously, if anyone agrees that this should happen- goto the link and sign the petition.
