Preseason is almost over and the regular season begins next week. This is the time of year when every fan seems like a winner. But remember, theres excitement and heart break along the way. Your team will win on bad calls and lose on bad calls, they'll play their heart out against a contender but win or lose a close one in a trap. It's all part of the game and this is before the tension starts.
Anyway, some predictions. I went down every week and picked a winner for every single game. Can I remember some I picked? Absolutely not, in fact they will definitely change over the course of the season, but here's what I got.
Patriots 14-2
Jets 8-8
Bills 8-8
Dolphins 4-12
Steelers 10-6
Browns 7-9
Bengals 6-10
Ravens 4-12
Colts 14-2
Jags 14-2
Texans 8-8
Titans 7-9
Chargers 12-4
Broncos 9-7
Raiders 6-10
Chiefs 5-11
1. Patriots
2. Colts
3. Chargers
4. Steelers
5. Jags
6. Broncos
- I know, predictable blah blah. I'll admit I had Jacksonville winning an awful lot as I went down and for some strange goddamn reason I had the Broncos going 9-7. Again, these are my early season predictions and it certainly can change later on in the year. I think the Pats, Colts, Steelers, Chargers, and Jags are going to repeat a playoff birth like last season, and like last season the 6th spot will be wide open. There's going to be quite similar playoff matches that were there last year. It's not being "predictable", it's being reasonable.
Cowboys 12-4
Eagles 11-5
Redskins 9-7
Giants 9-7
Packers 9-7
Vikings 9-7
Bears 4-12
Lions 4-12
Seahawks 8-8
Cardinals 8-8
Rams 6-10
49ers 5-11
Saints 10-6
Panthers 8-8
Buccs 6-10
Falcons 3-13
1. Cowboys
2. Saints
3. Packers
4. Seahawks
5. Eagles
6. Redskins
- Some changes from last season, Cowboys and Seahawks seem locks right now, everything else is questionable. Packers/Vikings, Saints/Panthers, and of course the 2 wildcard spots which will involve the Eagles, Redskins, Giants and the either Packers/Vikings/Saints/Panthers. Again, before Giant fans start denting my dick, this is right now and over the course of the season it'll change. Giants can easily make the playoffs and the Redskins can easily not, relax.
#6. Broncos @ #3. Chargers - Chargers
#5. Jags @ #4. Steelers (The Bruise Bowl) - Steelers
#6. Redskins @ #3. Packers - Redskins
#5. Eagles @ #4. Seahawks - Eagles
#3. Chargers @ #2. Colts - Colts
#4. Steelers @ #1. Patriots - Patriots
#6. Redskins @ #2. Saints - Redskins
#5. Eagles @ #1. Cowboys - Eagles
COLTS vs. PATRIOTS - PATRIOTS
EAGLES vs. REDSKINS - REDSKINS
Super Bowl
New England Patriots vs. Washington Redskins - New England Patriots
I think it could be typical in the AFC and shocking for the NFC. I'm going with the Redskins being the Giants of 2007 and the Patriots going once again, they're still the best team in the NFL with the best QB in the NFL. It's hard to argue New England going back, and this time winning it.

Dan Conner NFC d.rookie of the year? Yea right if anything Beason would get defensive MVP. Conner doesn't have a chance to start right now at all. He's behind Nail Diggs and Landon Johnson on the depth chart. He will make an impact on ST and maybe start near the end of the season if he really plays well. He's got promise but if your looking for him to have that kind of impact id look to next year.
Redskins weren't looking so hot last week after we stomped them. Both teams planned for that game. Granted it was pre-season and i actually want them to win the NFC east but come on.
DMVP- Julius Peppers will show why he's one of the best once again.
Comeback player of the year - Jake Dehomme or Julius Peppers
Panther players to watch: Don't be surprised if Thomas Davis blows up this year, he's a physical freak and will be blitzing with Julius Peppers on his side.
John Beason will continue on his way to becoming one of the best MLB in the NFL. Him and P. Willis will be source of argument for years. Could have been ROY the last year if he started MLB the whole season last year.
Johnathan Stewart/ Deangelo Williams. Deangelo has pushed himself hard this year to improve and has looked excellent. The revamped offensive line of road graders will really help them alot.
Steve Smith should return the probowl this year now that he finally has some help at WR.
Dwayne Jarrett- Didn't show anything last year. Has significantly improved. Still has troubles with getting separation. Should be a significant redzone threat and could possible emerge as the #2 at the end of the season.
Damione Lewis DT - Underrated lineman. Jenkins left causing everyone to question the panthers d-lineman when Lewis has been a better pass rusher the whole time.
SS- Chris Harris. One of the most underrated SS in the game, led the league in FF last year and is good in coverage.

Oh, eh I just picked Connor cause he looked good against Pittsburgh, had no idea he wasn't starting. I'll still have him there anyway since he was pretty good at Penn State.
I could care less if the Panthers stomped the Redskins in the pre-season. I don't know what you mean when you say "they planned for that game". Did they really? They actually had meetings and watched film because the game was so important? I doubt it dude. And if you mean "it's preseason but it was still planned", well...yeah, all games are "planned" in that way if you will. Planned as in running basic plays or experimenting with certain plays. Patriots went 0-4 and I'm predicting them to win the Super Bowl. Pre-season is meaningless.
And Jesus Christ man, the Panthers are not going to win both DPotY and CPoY. The "underrated beasts" on your team is fine, but predicting both awards going to someone on your team is taking your homerism too far.

They both game planned for that game because they are getting ready for the season is what i meant. I wasn't predicting that Peppers would win both awards. I was saying that he could get either of those considering his down year last season. Delhomme's a good qb. Should he start where he left off last year comeback player of the year is completely in his range.

WEEK 1 PREDICTIONS
Redskins @ Giants - Giants
Bengals @ Ravens - Bengals
Lions @ Falcons - Lions
Seahawks @ Bills - Bills
Jets @ Dolphins - Jets
Chiefs @ Patriots - Patriots
Buccs @ Saints - Saints
Rams @ Eagles - Eagles
Texans @ Steelers - Steelers
Jags @ Titans - Jags
Cowboys @ Browns - Cowboys
Panthers @ Chargers - Chargers
Cardinals @ 49ers - Cardinals
Bears @ Colts - Colts
Vikings @ Packers - Vikings
Broncos @ Raiders - Broncos
Most Intriguing Game of the Week - Vikings @ Packers. Nothing like a rivalry to start off the season. The first game with a new starting quarterback in multiple years for the Packers. Here, they face a hungry and talented Vikings defense and offense, bar quarterback. The Vikings know the hype they have behind them, and with that defense it's well deserved. The Pack don't want to be stood up at home for the first game of the year, so they'll have to match with the Vikings intensity. Not "game of the week", but "most intriguing" considering the variables coming in this week, the main one of course being the first Pack game without Favre, how do they hold up against one of the best defenses in the league?
Lock of the Week - No brainer, Chiefs @ Patriots. This doesn't have the makings to be an upset, at all. Patriots offense is going to put up atleast 34 and the Chiefs offense just can't simply match that. They lack a receiving core, unproven quarterback, questionable O-line, and one good player (Larry Johnson) can't carry them, especially in Foxboro on opening day.
Upset of the Week - If I don't have an upset pick for the week, this is simply who I believe has the best chance to upset. Looking at this weeks schedule it's pretty straight forward, however the one that strikes my attention is Texans @ Steelers that could have the makings of an upset. I think the Texans are a bit underrated coming into this season. They have a good defense and their offense will surprise people. The Steelers have to be careful or else by the end of the day Johnson could have 120+ yards and be down by 3 with 40 seconds to go. Problem for the Texans is they poccess no run game so they won't be able to run the clock if they lead at one point. Do I see the Texans winning? No, Steelers are too talented for them on both sides of the ball, but am I underestimating the Texans? Definitely not.
Game of the Week - Redskins @ Giants - I think this one could prove to be a very close game with 2 talented teams, one being the Super Bowl champs and that's always exciting. I have the Giants winning by 3 at home and this has the makings to be game of the week for sure.

How do you have the Skins making the Superbowl let alone playoffs with a brand new coach and a below par offense. Vikings will beat out the Pack, and take the division.

The Skins don't have a below par offense and I have them making it because that's how it fucking happened, not because I think they're the best team in the NFC.

I'll just re-post my pics here.
AFC:
1) Jaguars 13-3
2) Patriots 13-3
3) Browns 11-5 (Could just as easily be the steelers)
4) Chargers 11-5
5) Colts 11-5
6) Jets 9-7 (easy easy schedule)
NFC:
1) Cowboys 13-3
2) Packers 11-5
3) Saints 10-6
4) Cardinals 8-8 (Tie with Sea @ 8-8 but get in due to head to head)
5) Eagles 11-5
6) Vikings 10-6
Playoffs:
AFC:
Browns over Jets
Colts over Chargers
Patriots over Browns
Jaguars over Colts
Jaguars over Patriots
NFC:
Vikings over Saints
Eagles over Cardinals
Cowboys over Vikings
Packers over Eagles
Cowboys over Packers
Super Bowl: Cowboys over Jaguars
Kind of off the wall but I didn't want to be boring and pick Cowboys and Patriots like everyone else in the world.

It is off the wall since the Browns aren't going to win 11 games with their schedule. You have to give in the fact they open with Dallas, while I think Cleveland can contend that's more then likely a loss for them. There's no one on that defense that can contain TO, Witten, Crayton, etc. You have to look at games with the Bengals and Steelers, both teams play each other hard and you're more then likely to atleast lose 2/4 of those games. Already that's 3 probable losses. Add games such as at Phili, Indy, at Jacksonville, Giants, at Tennessee, it's rough. 11 is certainly not impossible but I have them going 7-9, with at the most 9 wins this season.
You made the cardinal mistake, nudge nudge, of picking the Cardinals to win the division. I've been on their bandwagon for years now and they never fail to let me down. It's not that they arent talented, cause they are, it's just a cursed franchise. Kind of like how everyone (including myself) picked Carolina to go far into the playoffs and they haven't done didly dick since their Super Bowl year. Also, you weren't boring, you were half boring, you still had Cowboys going to the Super Bowl, so half boring.
Speaking of Carolina fans, I don't think there's a much confident bunch on this site. I don't ever remember you people this confident. Is it the fact that you took it for granted when everyone was predicting your team to do well for the last 3 years or so. Then when they finally get off board because they've bombed majorly in peoples predictions you got pissy and now are expecting huge things from them to show the naysayers wrong? Please spare us a novel of why the Panthers are going to be good. While there's always the possibility of an upset, the Chargers are just a more well rounded team then Carolina. Isn't that what you guys based Carolinas season on, the fact they are the most balanced in the NFC South (not like it matters anyway considering you'll probably still split with New Orleans) they're going up against a more balanced team in the Chargers, hey, it's balance. I wish you gents luck, it would make up for all the past years I predicted Carolina to go to the Super Bowl and all I got in return was a subpar season.

I would agree with the high ranking of the steelers, maybe because im a steelers fan. however, 9 of their 16 games are against teams at least one game over .500. They play the entire NFC East as well as the four top teams in the AFC (SD, IND, NE, and JAX)
My predictions:
WAS over NYG
DET over ATL
CIN over BAL (and the inevitable benching of Flacco)
BUF over SEA (Trent Edwards, remember that name)
MIA over NYJ (Ricky Williams wins the battle of tired out players against Favre)
NE over KC
TB over NO
STL over PHI (Steven Jackson is signed and happy now...)
PIT over HOU
JAX over TEN (it'll be close and low scoring though)
DAL over CLE
CAR over SD (yeah I said it)
ARI over SF
IND over CHI
MIN over GB (landslide)
OAK over DEN
a pretty predictable week

They have atleast 5 wins in their own division, they'll beat Houston, Tennessee, and of those 8 teams you mentioned they're not going to lose all of them. If they're sitting on 7 wins with 5 division games and Titans/Texans, all they have to do is win 3 of those 8 games to get to 10 wins. The Steelers aren't the Niners, they wont lose all 8 of those games.

Heres why they can upset the chargers. The chargers will likely be missing their starting thier starting left tackle. The panthers are good at stopping the run. Peppers will be on the right side to our advantage. Our secondary can handle their WRs. Gates will be biggest concern come Sunday, although he is nicked up as well as Rivers. The chargers have a history of starting slow. Our run game has been clicking on all cylinders and the bolts have been getting run on all pre-season(Though i will take that with a grain of salt). The injured Merriman will be run at and i don't expect him to be that effective.
We are without Smith but we have big targets in Muhammad, Hackett, Jarrett, and Rosario. They also have Norv Turner as their coach. This isn't blind homerism i just actually know a little bit about the two teams. Ive never run from this board because the panthers didn't reach expectations. They've got the right pieces this year thats why we are excited.
atreyu_2020

They have Norv Turner as their coach? That didn't stop them from winning 11 games this season. Unless it's the playoffs THEN you could bring up the fact Norv Turner is their coach. The Panthers are good at stopping the run, but the Chargers better at running the football then the Panthers are stopping the run.
The Chargers have a history of starting slow? Really? Like seriously, is this knowing "a little bit" about the two teams? I just looked at both teams opening games in the past few years and they're both about the same ratio as far as wins and losses. It doesn't stop the Chargers from being more talented.
Your secondary could handle their WR's but the Chargers can very easily handle your WR's as well, especially without Smith. Both teams don't have the best WR depth, but the difference will be Antonio Gates. He's better then any receiving threat the Panthers have going in that game. It's an interesting game but I think the Chargers win by atleast 10.

It will be a close game. Yea as i said Gates is the concern. Their run game will not be at full steam so i like our chances. I think we will be able to make a possession style passing attack as our WRs have some size on their secondary. Neither team is going to get beat deep. San Diego finished middle of the road in run defense a few slots ahead of us despite our offensive woes so i have full confidence that they can handle LT. Turner just rides their fucking talent. He's a good offensive mind but his career as a head coach has been sub par at best.

Bens handled enough pressure and can take a lickin, if anything putting pressure on Ben makes him perform better. I think if the Texans win it'll be because the Steelers defense can't stop Schaub/Johnson and their special teams beat the piss out of us.

It is only one game but I have a feeling the Redskins aren't ready for a Super Bowl appearence. Like I said before, those predictions were offseason predictions and I basically winged the NFC.
The Redskins playcalling, time management, and gameplan was absolutely atrocious last night. I haven't seen a poorer display of time management since Seattle in the Super Bowl. It took them 20 seconds to spike the ball! Played waay too conservative with all those dink and dunks when they needed the first down. They just looked lost on offense.
Now, on the other side, Giants didn't look all that spectacular either. Their defense looked good but the Redskins offense just looked completely out of sync last night. Eli Manning could have had atleast 5 picks in that game with his play. He some nice throws to Burress but the Skins just couldn't get a grip on those balls he was throwing to them. Of course this is the first regular season game so it's still a feeling our process, therefore we won't know much about these 2 teams until a few weeks from now.

Andre Johnson is far from washed up,he's only 27. He does have injury problems but when he's not injured he's a hassle.
Well look at it this way, it can't get any worse then last season, in my opinion letting Faneca go was the way it should be. The last 3 years now he was nothing but dog shit for us. A BIG improvement was that we let Mahan go a few days ago. The line starts with a center and last year he couldn't suffice. Hartwig is a big improvement over him, imo.
Hartings also retired last year.

To be fair, Amani Toomer and Plax were hurt during preseason and didn't play much at all(why Hixon had such a huge game against Cleveland, he was also out for this game) so their timing is a little off. Overall an all right game, besides the fact that it was the most boring 3 quarters I've ever watched of a NYG football game. Running game is still beastly though.

So after watching the Cleveland and Dallas game today, I don't think we have what it takes to win the division.
I feel a 7-9, 8-8 season coming along. Pittsburgh looked good today. If we don't find a way to win against Pitt, I don't think we have much of a shot winning it.

I was even more impressed by the O-line. Texans front 7 aren't slouches, not by a long shot. Mario Williams was still beastly but we contained them pretty well.
I had no doubt Woodley would be a force. Riding the bench all season because of Clark freaking Haggans was a joke. He looks fast out there. I hope they don't take Cleveland lightly next week. I think we'll beat them but there's always that chance especially after a dominating performance.

And I hope to God that the Steelers D plays like that all season against every team.. I mean wow was that an impressive front by our Linebackers.. and Harrison and Woodley look like beasts!@
if you watched the monday night game against baltimore last season, you would know harrison is half gorilla and half axe murderer. woodley did make a good start for himself, well have to see they do against a more experienced offensive line. i was very pleased to see polamalu looking like his old self.
and is michael turner the real deal or does detroit's run defense blow that bad?

Oh shit. I didnt think it was that bad. I think they can still contend though. They've got the weapons. Cassell has to step up big.
He has to step up huge, you can't lose a QB like Brady and expect to win games with just small improvements from a half decent backup. Should make things more interesting this year though

I've been telling everyone to watch Woodley have a probowl season his first year as a starter, definetly BS he had to wait for Haggans and even though I do like Foote, I really want Timmons to be starting because he looked just plain sick in the preseason.. and I really wouldn't be surprised to see silverback putting up probowl stats again either.. 3 sacks 1 ff and 6 tackles today very nice (I also noticed he was held a few times.. I think he could have had five sacks honestly).
Oh and yeah the O-line was definetly having some pretty good blocks today I was actually somewhat surprised and honestly I think the Steelers are just going to be hungrier for another win, I don't see us taking Cleveland lightly but I don't see us not playing confidently either.

Oh I know, he like barely touched him with his arm, like he didn't even push him or prevent him from making a play or anything, it was a goddamn linebacker, he didn't need any interference. I think that might have been a make up call for that 4th and 1 spot.
WTF, I walk in the door and the Bears are beating Colts 29 to 13. Such a strange opening day. Brady's out for the year, Colts getting stomped by a mediocore team, Falcons show potential, Bengals make Flacco look good, Kyle Orton is sober, jesus.

Don't blame the Colts disgusting loss on Manning. Considering the guy didn't take so much as a snap in training camp, or a minute in preseason, he played like a fucking true mvp. Now, time and time again, the team surrounding him didn't.
The colts need to man the fuck up and shut down the running game. The colts defense strategy directly reflects their offense. They expect the offense to put points on the board, forcing the other teams offense to play aggressive. Which is why the colts have high rated cbs, and bob sanders, as well as fast lbs. If the colts offense fucks up, the other teams offense nickel and dimes on the colts d, which cannot stop it, because they are built for speed, not for stopping power.
When the colts can consistently stop the run, many more championships come their way.

Selfish years? Cmon, he just wanted to play and he played well. And we almost reached the Super Bowl last year. With the exception of this last offseason, the retirement wavering was justified, IMO. But when he made a retirement announcement and then wanted to come back...that was too much.
Of course, this year I completely sided with management and not Brett. As much as Favre was my favorite player, it was AR's turn. What Favre did was incredibly selfish this offseason and he tried to paint our amazing head coach and GM as horrible people. MM and TT were the MAIN REASON why Favre was successful last year. Period. I lost a little respect for my favorite player.
I'm incredibly excited about AR and our future. Last game was just awesome. It should have been more of a blowout though.

Imagine Vince Young in Aaron Rodgers shoes.. :uhoh:
Anyway, Week 1 POWER RANKINGS
1. New York Giants - Stick with the rules, until they get beat, they're #1. It wasn't the prettiest win, Eli didn't look sharp and the Skins had some of the work playcalling and clock management I've seen in a very long time. They're still the Super Bowl champs, and they still haven't lost.
2. New England Patriots - They lost the MVP of the league for the year. They need to be a more balanced team if they want to go far in the playoffs. It all starts with Maroney, I believe he can carry the load and Cassel will manage the game. This team is still dangerous with those offensive weapons and veteran defense.
3. Pittsburgh Steelers - [/U]That was a destruction over an underrated team. They looked fantastic on both sides of the ball, special teams performed, and more importantly the o-line looked good against a great front 7. It's bad when your starters are resting for an entire quarter.
4. Dallas Cowboys - Not a surprising win by all means going into Cleveland. Dallas are one of the elite teams in the NFC and the Browns simply just couldn't match them. Regardless of what defense they played, Romo looked fantastic and their run game is scary.
5. Philadelphia Eagles - Much like the Steelers, they looked great on both sides of the ball and didn't let the Rams breathe. This was my sleeper team in the NFC, this is why. McNabb and Westbrook are healthy, their defense is improved, and they have a young, talented receiving core.
6. Chicago Bears - Injured/rusty Manning or not, that was an impressive win. And just a reminder, Manning doesn't play defense. Chicago ran over Indys D, very badly. With a win in Indy you have to move them up the power rankings.
7. Carolina Panthers - Went into San Diego and proved they can be a great team with that less then 2 minute drill against San Diegos defense. They never gave up and stuck with one of the elite teams in the NFL, gotta give them their respect.
8. Tennessee Titans - Not often does your star quarterback have a mental breakdown during the game, and that team wins. Especially against a team many thought/still think are Super Bowl contenders in the Jags. I truly forgot how talented their defense is, they're nasty.
9. Buffalo Bills - Fucking Bills are pissed. We all knew they'd bring the ST but the rest of the team also shown they can play some football too. If this team can stay pissed off like this they could be the ones that sneak up on New England.
10. Green Bay Packers - That's not an easy win for the Pack. Vikings have the best D-line in the league and the rest of the D aren't slouches either. Rodgers did me wonders and proved that this team doesn't need selfish, ignorant pricks to win big games against division rivals. How can you not like Aaron Rodgers? Good for him.

The Colts run defense is just terrible. Its been terrible the past few weeks as they were getting run on in pre season. Good job by the Bears taking advantage of that. Nice to the panthers get some respect in the espn rankings. Make no mistake about it they outplayed the chargers the whole game. That was not a lucky last second drive. They really should have been up by at least 10. Carolina's o-line threw the bolts d-line around. Panthers really gotta work on the penalties. The false starts really cost them in the redzone opportunities they had.

The Patriots now have a QB who hasn't started a football game since high school. They should not be in the top 5.
Cowboys should clearly be ahead of the Steelers... you have the Browns higher than the Texans and the Cowboys beat the Browns on the road without Terence Newman. The Cowboys could have embarrassed the Browns more but they ran out the clock for the last 10 mins of the game.
atreyu_2020
09-11-2008, 11:01 AM
I only have them in the top 5 because they won their game last week and have a regular season streak going, plus they're coming off an 18-1 season. Until they lose, they don't drop in my book. Same situation with the Giants, they're the Super Bowl champs, and until they lose they'll remain #1.
Clearly? The Cowboys and Steelers both looked overly impressive last week. There isn't much difference in the two performances, other then the Steelers scored more points and the Cowboys gave up less points, even if the Steelers resulted to playing their back-ups in the 4th quarter when the Texans scored their points. The reason I have Cleveland ranked ahead of the Texans is because of their success last season. Before Week 1 I had Cleveland ranked ahead of the Texans going by last year, therefore the Browns don't drop as much. Besides, both teams got crushed. The Texans have a better defense then the Browns and the Browns have the better offense. You don't think the Steelers could have embarrassed the Texans more? They took their starters out at the start of the 4th quarter and only threw the ball about 2 times in the third quarter and still led 31-3. It's one ranking position to 3rd to 4th, let's not get hasty and make lame shit statements like "The Cowboys should clearly be ahead" when there's no hard, substantial evidence judging from Week 1. You could easily have the Cowboys at 3 and the Steelers at 4, but neither one are "clearly" ahead of the other. Both are well rounded teams that looked overly impressive against decent compeitition.
I don't see why the Eagles/Steelers get flak for beating on one bad team and one decent team but the Cowboys get a free pass? If the Steelers smack the Browns around next week I guarentee people will start shit "well Pittsburgh only beat the Browns", when just last week the Cowboys beating the Browns was a good win against a good team.
sprak_
09-11-2008, 01:56 PM
Well there you go... the Cowboys had a better record last year, and they beat a better opponent than the Steelers did and they did it on the road.
atreyu_2020
09-11-2008, 02:39 PM
But the Steelers looked more impressive in their victory for Week 1, it's debatable of course and again, there's no substantial evidence to "clearly" put one in front of the other.
Perhaps a better opponent, while the Browns have an atrocious defense, good offense and the Texans have a good defense and okay offense. Again, it's too close for you to clearly state Dallas should be ahead. That's my point, and neither team is clearly ahead of the other. Having Pittsburgh/Dallas at 3 or 4 isn't wrong by any means, although its so wrong to you apparently. Jesus if the Steelers were ranked one below Dallas there would be no argument, just like there isn't any here.
Browns rep is going to drop so much if they go 0-2 at home. They'll be considered bottom feeders for the Steelers when just last week Dallas was "clearly" ahead of the Steelers for beating the Browns.
A true argument would be why sportsline has the Saints ranked 3rd.
LOL @ Bears at 6 and Packers at 10. I think you have those flipped around. Packers are a top 5 team.
Bears beat the Colts when Manning missed all preseason and the Colts were still in that game...and they jump from the third best team in the NFC North to the 6th best team in the NFL? What a fucking joke...Ill take power rankings from anyone who isnt you.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/powerranking?season=2008&week=2
http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/story/10968862
Those are both better IMO even though the sportline link has the Aints at 3, which is laughable.
atreyu_2020
09-11-2008, 04:14 PM
No, the Packers aren't a top 5 team.
I don't care if Manning missed all preseason or not. He's one of the best QB's in the league and knows how to play the game. He practiced, he's not going to forget how to play. Fact is they went into Indianapolis, do you happen to know what Indys home record has been within the last 4 or 5 years? Exactly. And they crushed them, that's impressive. Lawl, Colts were a lost cause in that game.
Hmm, well your post really says a lot about how you don't understand power rankings. By ranking the Bears at #6 does not mean they're the 6th best team in the NFL. It's power rankings, not top ranked teams. The fact that the Bears were big time underdogs IN Indy and won decisively means they move up the power rankings, I hope this isn't confusing to you.
Well that's why I have my own power rankings and sportsline/espn have theres. If I cared what simple minded morons like you thought about my power rankings by calling them a "fucking joke" without a real idea of what power rankings are about then I wouldn't have posted them, but thanks for your input :D No one has the same power rankings, and there's always people like you posting shit about how "this power ranking is a fucking joke, what a fucking idiot, I can't fucking believe these." If Pete Prisco gave a shit about the same kind of people on sportsline that post countless threads about how his power rankings suck, he wouldn't post them. That goes for everyone that makes them, and just so happens not everyone argrees, and some people, such as yourself, take offense to them as if you lose sleep over it. And people like you that call them a "fucking joke" because of a few different placements, hostile are we?
Seriously though, you're like one of those douche bags on sportsline/espn/usa today, among others that post shit like "The Real Rankings Not Dallas", "The Giant #2 ??? Are you serious???" "are you freaking kidding me?" "Prisco are you ****ing me?" "pete is an idiot" "Pete is a fool!!!" because a few different placements as if there's ONE true way to rank power rankings, then again, you don't really know how power rankings work so. Those are direct thread titles and that's only sportsline. So, who really gives a shit what power rankings you prefer? There's countless of people on sportsline that prefer other power rankings, and there's countless people that prefer no power rankings but their own. I look at sportsline and ESPN's every week and neither one of them are so awfully bad that I take them seriously like you do.
Okay, so that's my rant on choads that insult power rankings as if there's one perfect one. What's worse is choads that bash power rankings without knowing what they are ;)
Okay so you are saying that the Bears are the 6th best team in the league, or are you saying the Bears had the 6th best performance in week 1?
Like I said, I don't agree with the other power rankings totally, I just feel that they are MUCH more accurate than yours. You seem to be going well out on a limb on many of those. (Bears, Bills, Pats, Panthers way too high). You are basing everything just on week 1.

Packers aren't a top 5 team. Maybe #10.
Maybe top 10? LOL. They are no doubt top 10. Good offense, good defense, good special teams.
And to elaborate on that. GREAT receiving corp (one of, if not THE best top to bottom in the league), good QB to get them the ball (big arm and not a turnover threat like Favre was), good RB with big play ability in Ryan Grant, good Oline (allowed 0 sacks against the best Dline in football). Then to the defense - Solid front 4 anchored by Aaron Kampman at DE and Ryan Pickett as on of the best run stoppers in football at DT. Probowl caliber LBs in Barnett and Hawk, one of the best CB tandems in the league, and two very solid players at safety.
The Packers weaknesses are few and far between...but you say they are just maybe a top 10 team? Really?

I'm assuming you watched the game vs the vikings. Did you see that they only beat the vikings by 5? Did you notice the vikings were coming back for the final score in the last two minutes until Tavaris threw a bad pass? I'd say your MVP for that game would have been Tavaris. Sure, the pack played alright, but they were at home and playing a 'decent' team, which by the way they only beat by 5 and probably would have lost if the vikings had a good QB. I would not put the pack in the top ten.

I dont know where youve been, but the Vikings are a very good team with a top defense, top OL, and arguably the best RB in the league...many picked them to win the division and some to go to the Super Bowl and win it.

Week 2 Predictions
Packers @ Lions - Packers
Giants @ Rams - Giants
Saints @ Redskins - Saints
Bills @ Jags - Jags
Titans @ Bengals - Titans
Raiders @ Chiefs - Chiefs
Colts @ Vikings - Colts
Bears @ Panthers - Panthers
Falcons @ Buccs - Buccs
49ers @ Seahawks - Seahawks
Chargers @ Broncos - Chargers
Dolphins @ Cards - Cards
Patriots @ Jets - Patriots
Steelers @ Browns - Steelers
Ravens @ Texans - Texans
Eagles @ Cowboys - Cowboys
Most Intriguing Game of the Week - Bears @ Panthers. Talk about irony, both teams come off huge wins against elite teams from the AFC and here they are facing off the week after. Bears come off an impressive road win in Indy and Panthers in San Diego. While I still believe the Bears offense is still in question they look alive in defense again. Panthers come from behind in the last minute and a half against a good defense. One's "0" has to go. Whose will it be?
Lock of the Week - Falcons @ Buccs. I think it's time for the Falcons to be brought back to Earth. I can't see Turner running wild all over this Buccs defense at Tampa Bay. Buccs know they are already 0-1 in their division and can't afford to go 0-2 for tiebreaking purposes. Even if it's by a field goal I can't see the Buccs losing this one.
Upset of the Week - Saints @ Redskins. Saints look to be the favorite after that embarrassment in New York from Washington. The Saints have to be careful, they get a big win in their division and go up against a lackluster team from last week. I'm sure the Skins are trying to tweak those mistakes and the Saints need to be careful not to fall into a trap. Washington will play harder since they're at home.
Game of the Week - Obvious, Eagles @ Cowboys. Both teams looked impressive last week and it's a classic rivalry. McNabb is healthy and has his share of explosive receivers while Romo has the same. I think Cowboys edge the win because they're at home and Eagles split the series in Phili. For now, I think the Boys got this one, but it's an exciting game.

Funny stat, Romo's 0-2 against the Eagles in Dallas. Something like 1 TD and 5 picks.

The Packers won because Tavaris can't throw.
On paper? They have three pro-bowlers. But they were outplayed on Monday because the Packers Oline showed up to play. Probably a big part of all the penalties is that they just wanted to get at each other.

No. We were 13-3 last year. The ending record matters more than divisional records. Bears have played the Pack awesome for the last 3 years. They had Brett's number.
The Vikings are failures because they always make a huge splash in FA and really seem to do nothing in the regular season. Hence the "paper champions" nickname a lot of people give them.

Bears beat the Colts when Manning missed all preseason and the Colts were still in that game...and they jump from the third best team in the NFC North to the 6th best team in the NFL? What a fucking joke...Ill take power rankings from anyone who isnt you.

Those are both better IMO even though the sportline link has the Aints at 3, which is laughable.
Manning at 75% completely destroys Orton or any other of our qb's at 100%. Dungy even admitted it that the Bears outplayed them and didn't give any excuses.

So I know this is the NFL thread, but I need some fantasy football advice.
Who should I start?
Delhomme vs. the Bears - I don't like how the bears held Manning in check and there's no Steve Smith.
T. Jackson vs. the Colts - The Vikes probably will fall behind and have to pass and TJ is good for atleast a passing touchdown and possibly a rushing TD and the Colts made Orton look like a stud.
and
Matt Forte vs. Carolina --- Carolina held LT to 97 yards.
Chris Johnson vs. Bengals --- He had 137 total yards and a TD against a Jags D who's suppose to be one of the better units....and he's playing the Bengals
atreyu_2020
09-13-2008, 04:41 AM
Start Delhomme over Jackson, I don't care who they're playing, the odds that Delhomme gets more points then Jackson are always a good bet. Indys run defense looking shady they'll look to run AP, while the Panthers will mix it up against the Bears.
Definitely go with Johnson over Forte. Although Chris Johnson has an injury but I think he should play. Bengals defense is awful and Chris Johnson should have a nice game. Carolina looks tough against the run so look for Forte not to do much.

You have to take in consideration that the Colts were missing 3 starters on the offensive line when they played the bears. It would inhibit any offense.

Yeah I think Johnson is going to be a stud in the NFL and they're playing the Bungles so I'm gunna leave him in and play Forte when the matchups arise. I also have Adrian Peterson on my team so I think that combination with T.Jack might push him in front of Delhomme. I just don't know about delhomme though. Jackson had more FF points last week then Delhomme did, I think I'm gunna make a final decision right before gametime. But more advice can't hurt!

The only NFC teams that are big threats to dallas IMO are in the nfc east. Theres no doubt in my mind unless tavarus gets better dallas will shut the vikes down on offense, their front 7 is great at run stopping and they can put more in to stop adrian. Packers and bears are good, saints and panthers have potential, but dallas usually does good against the nfc north. As long as we can win our first damn playoff game for once we should go far.

Delhomme managed a great game against a talented Chargers secondary. He did this without Steve Smith too. Unfortunately, he's about one of the most inconsistent QB's out there, so you aren't going to get many points from either of them.
Even though Forte is facing a good Carolina D, Stewart will be splitting carries with Williams. You'll have a better shot with Forte.

WOOT WOOT Carolina rallied back 2nd half. The penalties really kicked their ass. Had to be the most penalties ive ever seen in a game. They've got to stop that shit. Awesome start to the season. We really needed Travel Wharton against the Bears but they pulled it off. Best part about it is that we're 2-0, everyone will be healthy, and we get Steve Smith and our kick returner Ryne Robinson back against the vikings
I'm so fucking pissed. If Kyle could.. you know.. not overthrow a receiver 15 yards downfield, that'd be nice. It would also be great if Greg Olsen would not fumble. Thanks Greg. Appreciate it. Also, O-Coordinator, get the FUCK out. Just do it.

Dallas is much more talented on offense than the Eagles are, But the Eagles Defense is not one to overlook. With the addition of Asante Samuel, we can now leave our cornerbacks on an island more than we used to, IMO. I mean i know Dawkins is gonna have to shadow T.O. a litte to help out on the deep routes but Asante is a proven corner. Dallas is a 7pt favorite to win, I think thats too much, If there's anyone in the NFC that can match up well against Dallas's offense, IT's phillys defense. Our back up recievers aren't too shabby either. Damn, It's been along time since i posted on here.

Bears played a great 1st half. Yea Orton had a few overthrows that i remember. Chris Harris is a total beast. He totally changed the momentum with that fumble. Carolina has got to stop the penalties though, it was so ridiculous.

Weather conditions were a bitch, that wind was nasty.
Yeah, Shaun Rogers should choke on a fucking bone when he gets home. He was a dirty goddamn player in Detroit and he's still a dirty player. Talk about that cheap shot he put on Ben and not a fucking penalty was called for it. Shit Clevelands first 3 points came from a drive that was helped by lame fuck penalties like TAUNTING, "roughing the passer", and McFadden getting called for illegal contact when it was Winslow that spun McFadden around.
I'm just thankful that game didn't get any worse with that bullshit, and once again, fuck Shaun Rogers. Anyway, this puts Cleveland fans high hopes in jeopardy. The trendy pick is dying off as we speak. Don't worry Cleveland, we'll hand you a real ass whipping when you come to Pittsburgh in the last game of the season, that's if it means something.

I'm glad I found this forum, something on here that will actually interest me.
I won't go into great detail of my season predictions like specific records for everyone, just who i think will make the playoffs and their records, and yes it is a little different than my preseason predictions after 2 weeks of football, here we go.
AFC Playoff Teams
1. Steelers 12-4
2. Patriots 11-5
3. Jaguars 10-6
4. Broncos 10-6
5. Colts 10-6
6. Titans 10-6
I know the jaguars are in an 0-2 rut right now but i picked them to go to the SB from the AFC and i'm not one to turn on my SB pick midseason, i just hope i'm right. The titans were a hard choice though because it was between them the bills the chargers and every other team you could throw in there, but they always find a way to make it and they do have a stellar defense.
NFC Playoff Teams
1. Cowboys 12-4
2. Packers 11-5
3. Panthers 11-5
4. Arizona 10-6
5. Giants 10-6
6. Eagles 10-6
I did originally have the Cowboys representing the NFC in the SB so no change there, i thought the vikes might beat the pack this year but Aaron Rodgers is no stiff like I thought and I think Arizona is seizing their oppurtunity of a crappy division and I think they actually have a nice defense, of course the nfc east finishes out the playoffs in no particular fashion.
AFC Wild Card
Titans @ Jaguars Jags 17-10
Colts @ Broncos Broncos 31-21
NFC Wild Card
Eagles @ Panthers Panthers 24-20
Giants @ Cardinals Giants 28-17
AFC Divisional Round
Broncos @ Steelers Steelers 21-14
Jaguars @ Patriots Jags 16-13
NFC Divisional Round
Giants @ Cowboys Cowboys 24-14
Panthers @ Packers Panthers 31-20
AFC Conference Championship
Jaguars @ Steelers Jags 14-10
NFC Conference Championship
Panthers @ Cowboys Cowboys 35-28
SUPER BOWL!!!
Jags vs. Cowboys Cowboys 27-24
I think this is Dallas's year as well as the Jags to show they can contend, but If I'm wrong I'd say the giants could make another run for the nfc and I'd say the broncos look really good so far this year, watch for them to run the table.
Just thinking of these awards off the top of my head
Awards:
MVP-Eli Manning
Offensive MVP
NFC- E. Manning
AFC- Jay Cutler
Defensive MVP
NFC- Demarcus Ware
AFC- Ray Lewis
Rookie of the Year
NFC- Jonathan Stewart
AFC- Darren McFadden
Offensive Rookie of the Year
NFC- Jonathan Stewart
AFC- Darren McFadden
Defensive Rookie of the Year
NFC- Sedrick Ellis
AFC- Derrick Harvey
Most Improved- Aaron Rodgers
Comeback Player- Jake Delhomme
Coach of the Year- Dick Jauron

why do they call it a 40 burger, not just 40 points, but your right I don't think my cowboys could drop 40 on the G-men but I do think they could get 31 or so and hold the giants to 20 something.

Nice to see Romo come back from that fumble and one terrible Favre-esque interception.
I'm not too worried about the Cowboys defense. Division rivals are always tough games. A lot of points were scored but the Eagles could have easily been held under 30. Two bad mistakes by Romo led to points for the Eagles, as well as that bogus pass interference.
41 points against the Eagles defense = very impressive.
Felix Jones = beast. I knew that was a good pick over Mendenhall.

Yeah, I'm glad our offense and special teams could make up for our turnovers and put us over the hump, but if we wanna be a serious contender late in the season and in the playoffs we have to eliminate those mistakes. You cannot do that shit in January and hope to fight another day.

Power Rankings after Week 2.
1. New York Giants - Champs win again. Beat them, they drop, hasen't happened yet.
2. New England Patriots - Patriots win again, when they're not supposed to. Did people really think this team would die down, especially against the fucking Jets?
3. Dallas Cowboys - The winner of Phili/Dallas was going to get this spot. Dallas wins, their offense looked impressive, special teams looked impressive, defense didn't show up, but it was an exciting game.
4. Pittsburgh Steelers - Roethlisberger tooled the Brownies with a banged up shoulder, compliments of Mario Williams. Those wind conditions were nasty, but the Steelers proved they're the class of the AFC N and their special teams looks improved from last year, which trust me, is a good thing considering how awful they were.
5. Carolina Panthers - How impressive have they looked? Two come from behind victories and they never let up. People were ready to give up on them after disappointing season after disappointing season, including myself. Here's the potential they have shown. It'll be interesting how they do against division teams.
6. Buffalo Bills - Pissed much? Trent Edwards is playing out of his mind right now, I think he's pissed, so are the Bills defense. David Gerrard had like 2 interceptions last year. Bills intercepted him about 42 times.
7. Tennessee Titans - They have a damn good defense, they made the Bengals quit in the first quarter. Playing in those awful weather conditions didn't help them much but they still looked dominating. While I'm not ready to consider Collins a worthy comeback of the year canditate, he didn't turn the ball over and if he doesn't do that, this team may be alright.
8. Denver Broncos - Controversial much? Yeah, perhaps they should have lost, but they didn't. They still had to score the touchdown, and you have to admire their decision to go for 2. They knew that they got real lucky and decided to put the game on the line with that 2 point conversion. They gave the Chargers an equal chance to win, and the Broncos prevailed. Jay Cutler is for real.
9. Green Bay Packers - It was getting a little scary there against Detroit, but they eventually ran away with it. Have yourself a day Aaron Rodgers, you make me happy when you look successful while Favre eventually gets ridiculed in the NY paper. It's a great thing.
10. Philadelphia Eagles - McNabb looks to be sharp this year since he's healthy and they have a good, youthful receiving core. Apparently it wasn't the first time DeSean Jackson pulled a stunt like that. It's a good goddamn thing the Cowboys and referees didn't realize it and jump on that ball so the Eagles wouldn't even have had it on the 1. Look for this team to rebound after this loss, unfortunately it'll be against my Steelers.
11. Chicago Bears
12. Indianapolis Colts
13. Arizona Cardinals
14. New Orleans Saints
15. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
16. San Diego Chargers
17. Jacksonville Jaguars
18. Washington Redskins
19. New York Jets
20. Minnesota Vikings
21. San Francisco 49ers
22. Atlanta Falcons
23. Baltimore Ravens
24. Houston Texans
25. Cleveland Browns
26. Oakland Raiders
27. Seattle Seahawks

New york didnt even come that close to taking the divsion last year when they were full strength and hungry. Playoffs are one thing, but i doubt the gmen will hang with dallas or the eagles in the regular season.
And i seem to remember dallas putting up 45 and 31 on the giants last year, when osi and strahan were there. They can easily do it again.
