So I'm getting a 360 for christmas. Gonna be the core arcade version, but a couple questions...
1. With the recently made 360's, does it still have the RRoD problem? Does it happen as often?
2. With the basic free xbox live account that comes with the core arcade version, can you play multiplayer games online? Or do you have to pay to do that shit?

The new ones don't get the RROD that often anymore.
and no you cant play online multiplayer with the free xbox live account. you have to buy a gold account

Also you can't play online games with the arcade version, you'll need a hard drive for that. Honestly shell out the extra 100 and get a hardrive and gold.

Well then what the hell is the point of the free account? What can you do on it?

Well if you have to pay to play online games, then I won't be getting any of those anyway. Don't have the money to get the gold version.

1. Yes it does. I have never had a RRoD since the launch date of the 360. This is probably because I take care of my 360. I don't let it run for more than 4 hours. I don't move it around a lot. Also take care of the discs too.
2. The xbox live account you're getting for a month free is gold. After that, it turns into silver which you can still access stuff on the market place. On silver, you cannot play games online. Only on the gold you can.

fuck dude, the gold subscription is like 50 BUCKS A YEAR1! CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT SHIT??
fucking, who the hell can afford 4 dollars a month to play all of the good console games online? like seriously, I would much rather not pay 4 dollars a month, and not be able to play any decent games!!

dont get the arcade dude... if money is an option then by all means get the arcade one... but if it isnt get the new 60 gig because it has a low power watage and a new cooling system so it has no RROD... and it has an HDMI... or get an elite with its 120 gig hard drive and HDMI...

The new 360's with the 65nm gpu chip hasn't been sighted yet, but it should appear on store shelves very soon. It's better to wait for that.
The Falcon's still have a pretty high RROD rate.

Wrong.
A memory card is more than capable of playing a game online, I have an arcade and I play games online just fine. The only thing that a hard drive can do that a memory card can't is play original xbox games and download game demos.
and to answer your questions:
1.360s hardly RROD anymore, but you should still treat it with care. Properly ventilate the 360/power brick and it will last forever.
2. To play online you need a gold membership. Gold cost $60 a year. yeah, I know, pretty fucking gay because you're playing on a P2P and you think paying for online would at least get you dedicated servers, but sorry.

All 360s are the exact same thing inside. The only difference is the color (elite) and extra peripherals (hard drive, component cables, headset)included. Pros and Elites don't have a better cooling system either, they can fail just like the arcade. All 360s made after August 2007 have an HDMI port, even arcades.
Basically, if you just want to play a 360, buy the arcade. If you want to play 360, download game demos, download movies, play original xbox games etc, buy the other 2 packages.

You mean your parents are buying it, correct?
If you were buying it you wouldn't wait until Christmas.

Oh forgive me wise master, for making such a foolish mistake... Next time I will do my research, until then I pray you have the heart to forgive me.
