Wow, the gameplay looks great and the living rosters sounds amazing. My only real problem with 2K9 is non gameplay related, it's with the announcers. I enjoy Harlan, but Kellog? He's the last person I would choose for announcing an NBA game. Sadly, Live got Marv Albert so I'm at a loss for who would be better. Maybe Hubie or Fratello?

kellogg does a solid job with college bball, so im pretty sure he'll be fine as far as calling a video game is concerned...all in all the announcers arent a huge concern for me...the supreme advantage in gameplay wins me over everytime..

Damn, isn't there anyone else on this board that's interested in 2K9? Well besides the gameplay, the presentation looks to be top notch. There's end of quarter wrap up and actual player footage in the pregame. This video best explains what I mean:

Oh and I wasn't saying Kellog is a bad announcer, just that I would prefer a guy like Mike Breen for NBA games.

that's probably one of the best clips i've seen for a video game in sometime...plus anytime you hear harlans voice it feels like real playoff basketball...cant wait for this to come out...

It's definitely better than 2K8, and just might be my favorite 2K of all time. I love the little things. Dirk's fist pump after a big shot, Deshawn Stevensons' "can't touch this" hand wag, and the players actually feel like their real NBA counterparts. Well done 2K, well done.

I rented both this and NBA Live 09 a little while back(No reason to rent NBA 09, it's shit for sure), and I liked NBA Live a little more. Neither of them are too great this year, but Live is better imo. 2K9's movement felt really odd, like the players slide too much. Also, 2K9 doesn't look too good on a standard TV set, but it looks gorgeous in HD, which I think is kinda fucked up. They could have at least made it look good on both, like NBA Live.

Gamespot just put up some player faces from all three NBA games this year.

NBA 09's faces are just ridiculous to the point of mockery. Why else would they put out such a shoddy game in the first place?

good gravy..the faces for nba 09 (and some of the live faces) look horrendous...they almost look like ghosts in some of the nba 09 this year...2k did a much better job with that this year..

For someone who wants to get a basketball game for the first time, am I better off spending less and getting 2k8? Is 2k9 gonna be a big improvement gameplay wise for someone who doesn't follow the sport?

well while 2k8 was good, there were still some issues with dodgy gameplay...2k9 definitely improved on that...so even if you dont actually follow the game, you know when a game does something thats not particularly realistic....thats been improved greatly..

I'm a proud purchaser of 2K9.. I've always been a Live man myself until this year - when I was given the chance of playing around on 2K9 I was stunned. Later, about 2 hours after first experiencing 2K9 I bought it.

The game play is amazing, far beyond Live and the other 'contender'. The animations get smoother was you learn to play, and the overall shot animations are smooth and true to the actual players (Chuck Hayes freethrow anyone?). The blocking in the game is, from my perspective, the biggest step up from NBA Live. In NBA Live, to block the ball you jump and put your hands up. But in 2K9 it gives you an actual sense of being in the game, the blocks seem that real.

The problem that I have with 2K9 is some 'shitty' player faces. Some are excellent, right on, but others look like it took the developers two minutes to put together - all distorted, look nothing like the player.

2K9 = Best this year, no doubt about it.

Spent the better part of this weekend playing this game. Tons of fun and a lot better than Live. In HD the game looks great.

HD gaming was practically made for sports gaming...also i thought the faces were much improved in 2k9 this year...IMO..we should start up a private league with the guys in here...any interest...will help you get your game up for ranked play..
