Overpriced, if you know how to build a PC, but it's reasonably priced if you do not.

I'd say you could build almost the exact thing for half that or even less.

I just duplicated it on Newegg, $1300 without mouse, keyboard or remote. I did go to 8gb of RAM though, but that added like $50. I didn't totally cheap out on the case, but $130 isn't bad for a decent case. This is also, of course, including Vista Ultimate 64-bit, because Premium wasn't available there in OEM.

No that's not right. I was able to duplicate this machine for about $1050, with everything including keyboard, mouse, and a high end micro ATX case which was $129. The case that they give you (it's a micro BTX case to be exact, but no one uses those shitty cases) is probably actually worth around $60 or less. I also upgraded Vista to Ultimate 64-bit version instead of the Home version.
Also, although it seems that you are only saving $150 by building it yourself, you have to understand the parts that I included in the PC are much, much better quality components than what the manufacturer puts in their computers. This is including but not limited to the memory, PSU, video card (I included a factory OC'd card), motherboard and case. When you build a computer yourself you know that the components you are putting in the machine are name brand and are quality parts and that they will last you a lot longer over OEM manufacturer parts. This is the main reason why I always encourage people to build their own machines.

I didn't use the absolute cheapest, I could have shaved off a hundred or two by going with a different motherboard or video card vendor, but I like EVGA cards and Asus boards. I used parts that I would actually buy.

I didn't select the absolute cheapest either. I stuck with name brands and selected components (like the mobo) that had exact same specs as the HP machine, and in most cases I chose upgraded parts. The video card I chose was actually EVGA because I agree they make quality cards and the motherboard was a Gigabyte which is a brand that I really like. An ASUS mobo would have been like 10 dollars more if I remember correctly.

I see you are in Canada, make sure you are looking at tigerdirect.ca not .com
If I'm not mistaken, .com doesnt ship to Canada, I may be wrong.

I stand by this comment. :p
If you're unsure of how to build a decent computer, you cannot go wrong with that box.

I was wrong. I'd put it at about $200 less.
Yes, I'm a dumbass.

build your own, you will be able to customize it fully. thats a prebuilt, and even though its a very, very powerful machine with the latest and best graphics and processor, its still going to be better in the long run if you build your own PC.
you only need that computer if youre gaming, and if youre gaming, build your own PC. NO prebuilt PC will beat a custom built gaming PC.

I thought I was linking to .ca in the original post. It's the same price so it doesn't really matter.

Go here and put all the same(better) parts in you shopping cart and then you can pay an extra 50$ to have them build and test you're PC. It will be cheaper in the end .
