Astronaut's diary goes on display in Jerusalem (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081003/ap_on_re_mi_ea/ml_israel_astronaut_s_diary)

Pages from an Israeli astronaut's diary that survived the explosion of the space shuttle Columbia and a 37-mile fall to earth are going on display this weekend for the first time in Jerusalem.

The diary belonged to Ilan Ramon, Israel's first astronaut and one of seven crew members killed when Columbia disintegrated upon re-entering the atmosphere on Feb. 1, 2003. Part of the restored diary will be displayed at the Israel Museum beginning Sunday.

A little over two months after the shuttle explosion, NASA searchers found 37 pages from Ramon's diary, wet and crumpled, in a field just outside the U.S. town of Palestine, Texas. The diary survived extreme heat in the explosion, extreme atmospheric cold, and then "was attacked by microorganisms and insects" in the field where it fell, said museum curator Yigal Zalmona.

"It's almost a miracle that it survived — it's incredible," Zalmona said. There is "no rational explanation" for how it was recovered when most of the shuttle was not, he said.

NASA officials did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

That what I thought. I figuered it involved Columbia. Anyways, I remember the patch of one the astronauts survived.

These guys know what I'm laughing at.

In the 21st century, the likely hood of paper miraculously surviving exploding infernos has increased dramatically.

Who sits around and thinks up this bullshit  I mean, The Onion is more believable.

I'm sorry, but you are being stupid. What the hell does ANYONE have to gain from planting a dead astronauts diary???????? I would really like to see you justify this.

Why did the Pentagon tell us that Pat Tillman died fighting the Taliban? What was the purpose of the extremely questionable story of Flight 93? What was the purpose of the White House's ridiculous bedtime story of Jessica Lynch's heroic rescue?

He's asking me to invent an answer so he can then ridicule it. So instead of inventing an answer which may or may not have any basis in reality, you can take my answer which is in the form of three questions based on three documented fabrications and come up with your own explanations why someone would sling such crap, or just accept that I don't believe in this ridiculous Israeli diary bullshit.

I also didn't believe the story about Al Qaeda's underground fortress (http://www.burningcircus.com/content/inserts/binladensfort.gif) or the easter bunny either. Do I need to justify that too?

Paper is pretty durable. It's sort of a purified form of stuff trees invent to stand in mud and weather for hundreds of years.

If you've ever tried to compost even fragile and throwaway forms of it, like newsprint, you know how difficult it is to get it to disintegrate. I've dug fifty year old newspapers out of the walls of shacks abandoned for decades, still readable.

Diary and passport paper would be the most rugged of all, next to money perhaps. Some of D.B. Cooper's ransom money turned up months later washed down a creek bed, after being thrown out of an airplane into a wilderness.

Those were all stories meant to uplift Americans, in a positive way. The diary of a fallen astronaut only opens old wounds, how would that be beneficial propaganda?

I called them propaganda, I wasn't implying they were completely true.

A nice feelgood ending to a tragic story.

How the fuck is it feel good? Does it make you feel good, since it reminds you a Jew died? This is not the same as the three examples you were talking about.

Pimf, what does the government directly gain from this? What do Jews directly gain from this?

If you cannot/will not answer these questions, you're admitting that you're a troll and a loon because you assert things about a group of people you hate that you cannot or will not back up with proof or evidence to justify the ridiculous nature of what you say.

Dodging them for the purpose of dodging expected ridicule doesn't make you right, it makes you a troll for knowing what you have to say is retarded and still saying it anyway.

If you can't back up what you say, stop posting wild claims and accusations and laughing at death. It's just disgusting and stupid. It's time to recognize the difference between the truth and what you want to be true to justify your hate, and start living in reality.

First off I'm not laughing at a Jew dying, if that's what you and others are trying to imply.

I'm laughing at the fact that they found an astronauts unburned diary.

And now because I don't believe this story I'm now a hate-monger

It actually was burned, if you've looked at pictures of some of the pages. It simply was not burned all the way to ash.

Wait... isn't slain a term we use when one is killed, like in a murder, by another?

I don't think someone dying in an explosion on a space rocket due to technical faults or whatever it was can be referred to as slain.

Sorry if this argument has already been made but i'm full of a cold and my eyes ache so i don't really want to read 3 pages.

That's irrelevant. What's important here is that there's some sort of government conspiracy going on to invade the Moon. Some might ask what the government stood to gain from doing it, but the real question is what didn't they stand to gain?
