fuck 99. we all know he was great. But that's why i wouldnt want to play with him. I'd rather be on Wendall clark's team.

We've had this conversation about a gajillion times, and basically it boils down to there is a Sports Forum. I'm kidding. Sort of. No, I am actually kidding.

I think, from a career perspective, Gretzky is by far the best ever. However, in terms of individual ability, Lemieux wins in the head-to-head. He hit the marks Gretzky did, but faster, while having Hodgkin's Disease, back problems, etc.

Again, I'll reiterate -- Gretzky has the best career ever, and Mario may be the best individual player.

I think we can all agree that the the monkey from MVP was the greatest hockey player ever. Without having an advanced frontal lobe he was still able to play hockey, and excel at it. What gretzky did was impressive, but everything is more impressive when you are a monkey.

All I ask is to make one person's day a little brighter.

But I still think Gretzky was best ever, his scores don't lie, and it's not like he played more games than everyone else, he's not really even close to the top of the list on games played. However, I hate his personality, and he's a horendous coach.

Gretzky was better than Orr. Where do you get this "not even close" bullshit? Federov Played defense for the Wings at times, and if they wanted, they could have kept him there at all times and he would have been a defenseman leading the league in scoring. That wouldn't have made him better than Gretzky. Gretzky is to the NHL what Jordan is to the NBA.

It's Gretzky, of course, but we need some differing opinions for the sake of variety. That's why I said either Bobby Orr or Gordie Howe, Gretzky destroyed Howe's record by over 1,000 games, but if everyone said Gretzky, this thread would be more boring than watching ants fuck.
