Sure it's a couple of weeks away, but I'm interested in peoples thoughts. This may well be Calzaghes last fight, so do you think he'll finish his career with a win or a defeat?
On a side note, I'd enjoy a rematch between him and Hopkins, but he has ruled that out :(

Joe Calzaghe has cotton balls for hands. Which is why a lot of boxing analysts call him Joe Calslappy. He hasn't fought anybody aside from Hopkins, and yes Kessler sucks too.
The whole, "I'll never let a white boy beat me!" thing was just to hype the fight. Boxers do shit like that all the time. Remember Floyd wearing the sombrero out to the ring for the De La Hoya fight?
Calzaghe ducked Pavlik, and Hopkins just ran a fucking clinic on him. Bernard Hopkins is a legend, a sure fire hall of famer, and you don't know what the hell you're talking about.

Not meaning to thread-jack, but could there have been a worse fight for boxing than that Pavlik / Hopkins debacle?
Pavlik was gaining a nice fan base, being an American fighter, could throw absolute bombs with both hands, and was bringing some excitement and good press to the sport when it definitely needed it, then... well, nothing good ever happens in Jersey.

I never said Calzaghe sucks, I said he hasn't fought anyone besides Bernard Hopkins. He has hid in his country and now at the end of his career he is trying to fight big name but fading fighters. That's why he ducked Kelly Pavlik. Calzaghe has only fought in the United States once. 45-0? Yes. With 42 paper wins. He might as well be 3-0. The only decent wins he has are Lacy, Kessler, and Hopkins. He won't fight Hopkins again, and I'm not too sure his pitter patter punches will get him past Roy Jones Jr.
Jones, however, is definitely past his prime and may be over the hill. Anyone with any decent boxing knowledge wants to see him and Bernard go at it again, hell, Bernard even called him out. But I think Calzaghe's handlers knows better than to let him take that fight again.
We will never know whether or not Joe Calzaghe was overrated, because he never left his country or fought anyone good while he was in his prime.

You and I both know that if there dollars in the fight, it will get made.

Personally I think that the remaining of his fights will be in the US. Joe is coming to end of career and wants some big pay days. If he will get them is another matter as there doesn't seem to be any big fights out there, bar pavilk .

Are you kidding finally a fight that will have Roy Jones motivated back to top form….Ahhhh i can see it now him beating Calzahge with superior speed and POWER..Cal is fast and his stamina is A+ but ROY is a phenom when it comes down to top quality fights and has faced a more diverse group of A+ champions..while Cal has beaten Jeff Lacy and B-HOPS, his hugathon with the ol man and not being able to truly dominate or hurt him lets me know that he wont be able to control ROY who is a more of a defensive master and counter puncher with extra POP! and the bigger man……all in all ROY in 11th by TKO

I can only see the fight going 2 ways, points for Calzaghe or T/KO Jones. This is why I bet on Calzaghe on points but made a cover bet of Jones by T/KO. In the event of either of these happening then its money in my pocket.
Jones is as much of a 'duck' as Calzaghe. Eubank, Collins, Benn & Mclellan have all said that Jones ducked them. He beat Hopkins & a fat James Toney.

This fight was fixed. Jones Knocks down Calzaghe in the first round... He then just sits there and doesn't attack him letting him recover... Then for the rest of the fight jones just blocks and does nothing.. Wow.. I hate these fixed fights..
Not only that, but an earlier fight some boxer obviously won and the judges gave the decision to the up and coming boxer.. Rigged fucking matches man..

Who says hes still not in his prime?
You see the fight tonight???
Jones got OWNED. He won the first round and lost the next 11. Jones eye was shut.
Jones and Calzaghe are two years apart so its a pretty fair fight.
How do you know Calzaghe won't fight Hopkins again?

Its a shame that Joe would have to beat the likes of Ail, Louis, Frazier, Rocky and Ivan Drago to gain some recognition from some Americans.
Anyway not bad victory again for a 37 yo way past his best.
Bring on B-hop...again.

Not gonna' happen. Calzaghe's handlers would be stupid to put him in the ring with Hopkins again. If he fights again, which he probably shouldn't, it will most likely be Kelly Pavlik or Chad Dawson.
Calzaghe would embarrass Pavlik, Bad Chad Dawson, however, would probably put a big fat stain on Joe's squeaky clean record. No sense in ruining his legacy, he should hang them up and go out on top.

There will always be someone else, there will always be some excuse.
Joe could only beat who was put in front of him under Warren and he did do. People keep taking about Jones and Hopkins been pasted there best but Joe is too, he used to be quicker, fitter and hit harder 8 years ago too.

If he was American Roxtar would say Calzaghe is one of the best boxers of all time..... Which he is by the way.
He is the most under rated boxer ever.
Joe Calslappy? Why dont you ask the 46 people he has beaten if they think his fists are like "cotton balls"?
Its easy sat watching him on TV to say he just slaps people or that his fists are like cotton balls but Im sure every boxer he has fought would call you a moron for comments like that.

1. If an American fighter only fights in America do you say he Hid in his country? Where has B-Hop fought outside America, where has RJJ fought outside of America. Also Wales is a different country than England, if he fought in England that would be the same as an American fighter going to Mexico. If you hold the belt you can choose location, besides they sell out stadiums for boxing in Wales, they have a hard time doing that here. More Money is to be had fighting in Wales.
2. Kelly pavlick is overrated by far. He beat Jermaine Taylor 2 times and that is it. I really do not think Kelly would do well against Joe.
3. RJJ is only 2 years older than joe, how is he over the hill if Joe isnt?
4. Joe has tried to negotiate to fight RJJ before, RJJ who had no belt refused to fight Joe in 2000 unless he received 70% of purse. Obviously Joe declined being as he had the belt and demanded 50-50. RJJ refused. Although not technically ducking it was a form of it. So who has Joe ducked? No one. Dont say someone ducked somebody if they made ridiculous money demands.
5. About your comment on 3-0, you do realize that most fighters get most of there wins when they begin fighting against no bodies. So whats the difference between his record and RJJ?

Pavlik, Hopkins, Taylor, Jones and Dawson altogether have fought 1 fight outside of the states. Joe had fought 2 fights outside of Britain(not just Wales) before he had even fought Hopkins or Jones in the states.

Hopkins, Lacy, Kessler, Mitchell, Eubank & Reid is 6 last time I counted.

I'm hoping Calazaghe has one last fight at the Millenium Stadium. I'd be there!
The mans a fucking national treasure, anyone who thinks he is overrated doesn't know the first thing about boxing.
But I suppose I am slightly bias, seeing as he's one of few great Welshmen.

You guys on the other side of the pond sure are an angry bunch. It has nothing to do with him not being American. Some of my favorite fighters aren't American (Ricky Hatton, Michael Katsidis, Antonio Margarito) I just don't like the way he fights.
And as far as the Calslappy comment, if you haven't heard that one before then you really don't follow boxing.

Not entirely sure what you're getting at. As someone previously stated, everyone has to fight nobodies, the apparent "up and coming" stars and the unbeaten unknown youngsters.
People just like Mario Veit. Veit was 30 - 0 with 19 KO's when Calzaghe fought him. I'm not saying Veit is a good fighter but his record at the time said he wasn't bad either. Look at Hopkins record, it has just as many bums.
Fact remains that Calzaghe, Jones and Hopkins are all past their best, what if's and what could have been's mean nothing. At the very end of all their careers, Calzaghe came out on top whether you like how he fights or not.
I'll admit, as will many, Calzaghe isn't a big hitter but its sad that this is probably the main reason Joe isn't as liked in the states as much as he is in the UK. America's boxing past and present had powerful hitters who would give the crowd a buzz from huge knock outs and I suspect this is why Joe isn't a fan favourite in the states.
People who can't appreciate Joe's style are the people who aren't real boxing fans.

Calzaghe is a quiet person who does his best to keep out of the limelight, hes not as mouthy or arrogant as some of the greats which is why he seems to have come and gone without being noticed by people in the States, I think it was his choice.
If he had been obnoctious and flashy he would be more widely considered a legend.
