My laptop started out with XP but I upgraded to Vista Ultimate because I got it from my university for free.

Anyway, it really sucked at first but after turning off some of the retarded "features" and a couple updates, it seems to run better than XP. Kind of hard to compare really cause Ive had it for a year or so but I have no big complaints at this point.

the only real problem is that u might have trouble running really old games. (but theres usually a patch for that problem)

Get a 64 Bit system and Windows XP Pro. Avoid Vista at all costs.

Vista kicks the shit out of XP now.

Vista never had any problems, its just stupid people been stupid. Wow you just got an operating system that's just been released ... whats that? A bug? Oh sorry were you expecting it to be a flawless as Window's Xp 1.999999999999 ...

Most of the bugs have been ironed out and now the advantages of vista destroy the old Xp.

Vista is fine... just make sure to update drivers and disable the UAC thingie (takes 2 minutes). People that say Vista still sucks either have shoddy computers, drivers or really bad luck.

XP Pro is awesome and all but it's time to move on. Vista ftw.

It is true that it used to suck (especially the RC) but patches were made and support was increased so now it is actually a very nice, stable OS.

Vista will ultimately replace XP in the foreseeable future, but currently, dual-booting is your answer.

Partition #1: Vista Ultimate (64-bit)
- Use this as your primary installation and install all the new games on this OS.

Partition #2: XP Pro (32-bit)
- Run all your older games/applications that do not have 64-bit support on this OS.

Problem solved.

Vista is a system hog out of the box.

Vista is better than Xp once you turn on/off some of the features.

Vista is a system hog out of the box.

Right because having small amounts of RAM is better than having loads.

The standard PC had what like 128-256Mb of RAM when xp was released? The standard PC now has like what? 2-4Gigs?

Processors were single core and slower when XP was released? Now we have dual and quad core faster processors?

If you're having problems with Vista using up all your RAM or running slowely its because your stuck with a piece of shit computer. However anyone and especially a gamer that's purchasing a new PC will have zero problems with Vista and its 'hogging'.

The whole "vista sucks" charade is just one huge anti-microsoft circle jerk.

I was a bit annoyed with it at first, but it's grown on me. Unfortunately, I do lots of audio/video editing and the Vista service packs aren't compatible with much of the software/hardware I use - that's the most annoying thing. Not QUITE so much a Vista problem so much as the developers of the software/hardware being lazy.

If you're just doing basic things on it and gaming, there's nothing wrong with Vista.
