For those of you that don't know the game it's a zombie horror space shooter in space with guns and zombies type game that was just released. My relationship to the game started when I saw a screenshot in the Screenshots thread (picture forum) that looked interesting. A two-day download later I start it up and can run it easily on full specs. Oddly, it seems to look better on medium specs although that may just be me. Whatever the case, I want to know what you fine folks think.

There's a zero punctuation review of the game, please post before you view it in order to get what you really think without some Englishman clouding your mind. http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/333-Dead-Space

Personally, I found the game a let down. It isn't scary - at times startling but doesn't give me the "Are my doors locked?" feel that Alien did when I was a kid or the Cradle level from Thief 3. The camera is meh - I had read claims that the adjacent camera angle (you play as if you were standing next to the character) merely makes things harder to aim and adds another degree of separation from an already underdeveloped character/story. So far it feels like I'm watching a big-budget-poor-value type movie that is most fun for the gore. The game isn't all bad, it has pretty graphics for most models and some unique concepts but nothing to make it a great game.

Tell me what you think, I want to know whether or not I'm alone in this.

I like it but I knew from the start it was going to be gimmicky because you get to dismember things. Wait, no, you HAVE To dismember things. Aside from that, I can't read the fucking text because I have a standard def tv, but I guess thats my fault.

I was thinking about getting it, but I probably won't for a while.
