Seriously this game was fucking pants ...
The customisation was purely cosmetic, the gameplay shallow, the length rubbish, it delievered on nothing, looks like shit and plays like shit ...
Will Wright can suck my fucking balls, I want my money back for buying this game. Did he even play the fucking game or was he to busy planning its 3rd expansion?
To put out a game this terrible is one thing, but to pursue an idea with so much potential so many endless awesome possiblities ... and to then just completely tear it to pieces and produce this piece of shit ...
I wanted to spend hours hunting in the cell stage, slowely evolving into an awesome fighting machine, the design and mold directly effecting my ablities. Then finally after at least a few days (not 5 fucking minutes) progress into a 3D water enviroment, where you sent at least another few days progressing up to a big fish size ... then slowely going onto land ...
But no ... we get shit cell stage (i've seen flash games with more complexity than this). Then we get a fucking MMO creatures stage ... yes I'm clicking on an enemy then spaming number keys ... thats MMO gameplay ... then you get an even more shallow set of RTS stages ...
fuck this game

Photoshop is a neat tool with lots of features and tools ... but i wouldn't consider it a fucking game.
Oh sure you can create amazing creatures ... but you do jackshit with them, your design doesn't effect the way they play its useless ... they might as well have taken the customisation ablity out ... game would play exactly the same ... shit

Blame the entire team's inability to make a proper balance between "cute" and "scientific." Will Wright's original game was apparently too scientific for the general masses and would have made less money according to some assholes.

I thought is pretty good at first...but it soon it evolved into a pretty bad RTS.
A wonderful idea should have been a wonderful game.

I noticed that a lot of review sites said that it was a shallow "genre sampler" but still gave it a 9.

I agree with you completely.
I remember seeing the 2005 E3 demo and becoming extremely pumped in the process, that was before the whole kiddeyfication of such a promising game..
The whole game was shallow as fuck, and Will Wright should be ashamed of himself.

I agree with you on some points, though I must say that the creativity and the idea behind the game is absolutely incredible. It's just that Will Wright could have done more, no need to bash on the game creator, especially when every bit of the game was his idea. If you can come up with everything that is in Spore, you sir, are pretty much ingenious. So even though the game sorta blows, give that guy a fucking break...
Nonetheless, you should have just brought the game "online".

Well the respect Will Wright got with his masterpieces (SimCity etc) can only endure a few milkings ... with the 12th sims 'addon' hes running low ... this game just put him into massive respect debt ...
Nonetheless, you should have just brought the game "online".
... if only ...
Thing is I thought it would be amazing ... hence I wanted to support him ...

Why are we blaming Will Wright solely? What about Chris Hecker? What about the rest of the Spore team? What about EA? Will Wright's original idea was tailored for maximum profit through various paths that involved the other side of his team and of course EA.

Maybe EA will release a Science Expansion Pack, with new model physics, improved evolution, and realistic creature parts. If they do, I'll buy it.

I didn't think it was a horrible game, but I does sort of get boring quickly because yeah, it is a genre sampler really. It's neat, but not the greatest thing ever.

The game is exactly what it's called
a spore, a reproductive structure that is adapted for dispersal and surviving for extended periods of time in unfavorable conditions.
Will Wright knows he made a shitty game and he's gonna add to and add to it but it's not going to get any better. but let's admit it the gaming market is kind of in a halt right now, there are some shitty games out right now (Far Cry 2. Halo 3). It seems the only thing keeping it together IS the FPS games, but i still find myself playing games like RB2 and World of Warcraft. A game shouldn't be about shooting shit up and finishing it, replay value is very important and Spore doesn't provide any, it's the same shit over and over again. i try to go back to it and give it another chance but i just can't...
Sims 3 i pray you will be good...
