I was just wondering, maybe some of you have thought about it, will the play station ever end, and then Sony moves on to a new gaming console name with a whole different feel to it. Nintendo does it every release, Microsoft, well they are too young, but xbox should end soon...

also, think of any cool names for future systems?

2012.

woow. ok but lets say it doesn't end just like it didn't with Y2K. I think nintendos gonna keep teh wii cuz they said they are. Xbox will probably change into a game sytem that doesn't use controllers. And ps4 will come ot and die like the Ps3 has

If they make another console, it'll be called Playstation 4. There's no reason to change the name. Xbox didn't go to Xbox 2, because 2 < 3 but 360 is the amount of degrees in a circle, which is more marketable when your competitor is a third. Nintendo is just about LOL CREATIVITY. They can afford to be, since they're synonymous with video games to some people.

sony might not named it playstation 4 since number 4 in japan is bad karma or luck.

The electronics giant emphasized that PS3 sales for the year totaled 3.6 million, up 40 percent from 2007. Additionally, Sony said that full-year software sales for the PS3 were up 115 percent, though it gave no specific dollar amounts for either period.

^From the article you posted. Sales are going up, yet no one is buying them, eh?

Those gains were partially offset by the performance of Sony's systems, all of which sold fewer units in December 2008 than in December 2007. The PlayStation Portable sold 1.02 million, down from the previous year's 1.06 million. The PlayStation 3 was also down slightly, selling 726,000 systems versus the prior December's 798,000. Although the current-generation systems were treading water, sales of the nine-year-old PlayStation 2 sank considerably, down to 410,000 from the previous December's 1.1 million.

good try taking the sony spin under this statement. your growing up.

There's no real reason to switch the name so it probably won't end until Sony is out of business.

Which is 2012 when the world ends.

You know a lot for something you hate, but I guess you really need to research these things to keep up that deluded, ridiculous superiority complex you've got going on with your super cool console.

Sony aint the only one with the layoffs

Microsoft recently announced that the company would be laying-off 5,000 employees due to a drop in profits. This is the first mass layoff in the history of Microsoft. However, news has trickled out that the Xbox division will be suffering the brunt of the job cuts.

Ouch (http://gamer.blorge.com/2009/01/23/massive-layoff-at-xbox-division-closes-studio/)

So can i say that the 360 is going to be microsoft last system? no and the ps3 wont be sony last system either .They will see profit sooner or later.

I wonder how many times people said that the HuegBox failed and wasn't going to spawn off another iteration in the middle of last gen. Same for the Gamecube. PS2 and Sony dominated that market, but Microsoft and Nintendo had no problem continuing with their games divisions, same as Sony won't. Sony is also a giant corporation that can afford the losses.

The Dreamcast only died off because of poor sales of their last few consoles and horrible timing with the PS2 release. Aside from that, Sega was exclusively a game hardware and software corporation that didn't have a massive television, computer, and various electronics division that could backup their losses.

"Sony is finished! Hahaha...oh wait their televisions, multimedia players, disc formats, memory, propriety sound formats, etc. etc. are still around and generating revenue like a motherfucker."
