Just got back from the midnight screening.
.Amazing visuals and action and music. Some very compelling characters and drama. The first 2 hours are a freaking amazing thrill ride with some bad ### hard, core nitty gritty fighting. The vigilantes in this movie don't pull their punches, they kill and they kill with flair and all the heat and anger would come from being in a situation and dealing with the ugly side of life. This movie is not cleaned up or sanitized, it is bloody and seedy and shows the nasty side of things and earns it's R rating just like 300 did. Denny Duquet from Grey's Anatomy steals the show as the Comedian and he's only in about a third of the movie.
My buddy loved it the whole way thru, but I have to admit that I thought the last 30 minutes or so dragged. Maybe I was getting tired since it was 2 in the morning, I don't know. Don't let that discourage you from seeing it, it's an amazing spectacle of a film to watch.
I already want to watch it again.

So I saw it last night and I have to say it's probably my favorite comic book movie ever. Well atleast right up there with the Dark Knight. But it was amazing. All the action scenes from the graphic novel are in it but they are much more in depth and a lot more graphic which was nice. I would recommend this movie to anybody, but I would suggest that if you don't want to think about a movie it might not be for you. Still I would say go just for the action alone. The Comedian was my favorite character in the novel and he was my favorite in the movie. He was only in it for maybe 25 minutes through flashbacks but he steals the screen when he's on it. Everybody else did a really good job too. All and all I'd say go see it for the visuals and the story because you wont get a much better superhero movie then this one.

I just saw it and I really didnt like it, too much of a spectacle. The movie felt too familiar. Another anti-hero hero movie like the last batman.

Just saw it IMAX style earlier today. I gotta say:
Perfect movie is PERFECT.
Better than the dark knight. I haven't read the graphic novel but i think i've got to now.
Though it's longer than most movies, it didn't seem long to me.. It flowed rather well, there was some hard core gangster stuff in the movie along with deep plot lines, believable characters, AWESOME soundtrack and so much more.
I can't think of a movie I like better

Just came back from seeing it, I think it stuck with the graphic novel very well. The soundtrack to the movie was pretty abstract but it fit well with most of the scenes. It's true, there is a lot of blue dick on the screen and not enough juggs.

Jesus, this movie is getting "I Am Legend" treatment.
Lawl, did I just hear someone say "believable character"? That's almost as bad as someone saying Friday the 13th had character development.
Anyway, movie was cool. It was cast well and had its moments. Nothing makes it great, but nothing about it was overly bad, making it dece.

I love the graphic novel and wasn't dissapointed in the film. It's impossible to really capture it in its entirety on film but it did a good enough job. I thought the Bob Dylan montage was awesome and probably the best part of the film. You have to read the graphic novel then watch it in order to get a full appreciation.

Well thank you for once again being an elitist asshole.
Your obviously superior opinion is greatly appreciated.

Go stalk this guy for a while. He was way more blunt than I was. Now, quit acting as if I do anything different than any other fuck on this site.

When Alan Moore wrote Watchmen he intended to destroy the Superhero Genre. Moore's comic was a ruthless and unapologetic dissection of the American superhero that forever changed the genre. Every single question that comic writers had ever avoided, sidestepped, or otherwise left unanswered since Action Comics 1; Moore did answer, even when the answers weren't what we wanted to hear. What type of person would you have to be to don a costume and go out to fight crime? Answer: a very psychologically disturbed person. What would the society that produced these individuals be like? Answer: A world gone mad.
For all its complex metaphysical mumbo jumbo and deep existential rantings, Watchmen boils down to a very clear premise; “if superheros actually existed in the real world what would they be like, and if they did then what would be the political and social implications of their existence?”
Many, including myself, doubted that Hollywood filmmakers would ever have the artistic nerve to apply the same cold razor sharp dissection that Moore performed on comics to the modern Superhero film genre. I've never been more happy to be wrong. Against all odds, a movie now exists which applies Moore's intent, charges head on into questions that every other Superhero film sidesteps around, and forces the viewer to question there own existing conceptions about heroism and the idea of a costumed vigilante.
That movie....is The Dark Knight.
Watchmen, Zack Snyder's film, is a visually outstanding but downright pretentious film that only works on some levels because several members of the cast (particularly Jackie Earle Haley as Rorschach) keep it from sinking under its own weight. What Moore did with Watchmen was brilliant, but his writing is long, protracted, and often very painful to read...and unfortunately its made even more unbearable on screen. Oddly enough, this movie fails for exactly the same reason that Sin City and 300 succeeded. Watchmen is supposed to be about the implications of Superhero's existing in the real world...but Snyder's near frame for frame, often CGI assisted, recreation of the graphic novel's visuals create the feeling of a world that is completely divorced from our own. A comicbook feeling world, which is the exact opposite of the original intent. It doesn't help either that it has the characters performing feats like punching through concrete walls and throwing people twice their sizes across rooms. I had several non comic book fans ask me after the movie if the comic actually explained how these individuals all developed Super strength. This style is absolutely perfect for the type of over the top nature demanded from something like 300 where blood is spraying across every frame of the film and the characters boast in heroic baritone how they are the greatest warriors ever, or Sin City where they lay on their monologues so thick you can't possibly take it seriously.
Watchmen is a film that certainly has some over the top action to it, but it's also a story that requires some degree of subtlety, and that's not Zack Snyder's forte; as evidenced by his music placement in several parts of the film (if you've seen it, you'll know what I'm talking about). When the action scenes happen it feels like it could be a halfway decent superhero movie, but they're few and far between. In the end it only slightly succeeds to be mind numbingly entertaining, and just barely intellectually thought provoking. Still, at least it tried.
7/10

dont like the movie at all, kind of reminds me of ra's al ghul's mission to eradicate corruption throughout the world in batman begins. the ending of watchmen also reminded me of the dark knight's ending
people have been saying the aciton is great.. wtf what action? barely any memorable fight scenes
honestly i think iron man and the incredible hulk with edward norton is far better
i havent read the comic yet, but the plot is really good, however i think its just the way its portrayed that i dont like.

Rare is the occasion when I actually read a wall of text in a forum and find myself not regretting my decision. Sepharih presented a very valid and very fair point. I am actually driven to a corner wherein I think there is nothing more intelligent to add to it. And he posted what he thought in such a manner that he wasn't stomping on anyone's balls or pride. Bravo Sepharih.
I agree about Zack Snyder's poor judgment in music placement. I've watched the movie twice and I still cringed at that part where... yes, you probably know what I'm talking about. I was torn whether he wanted to present it as something funny or something sexy. At the end of everything I was still waiting for the punchline.
Anyway, I know some hardcore comic book fans who liked the ending of the movie better than the comic. *shrugs*
