hey there poeple, im new this forum but i was tryin to find a forum with some knowleagable minds about how to fix my car. i have a 93 honda civic ex, 1.5L dohc, 163,000miles. check this out, i was on my lunch break and i was in a drive-thru. i placed my order, got my food, and was pressing the gas to go but then the engine died. i couldnt start it up again so i got it towed to my place. next day i tried to start it but no luck. then i proceeded to check the obvious things like cleaning the battery connections, tested the spark plugs, wires, distributor and rotor for spark and they all sparked. checked to see if my engine was gettin fuel by seeing if the spark plugs were gettin wet n they were. nothing in the intake, no holes in the exhaust. my friend told me to check my engine relay, but either i dont have one or i cant find it. all my fuses under the hood and under my dash are in good condition. i just cant figure it out. checked my timing belt n thats all gravy, albeit a little old. i dont make enough to take it to a shop so im tryin to figure this one out myself. thanx for ur help people.

You might not have much money, but get it to a shop. A car that suddenly dies has something seriously wrong with it.
My mums car did the same thing in a car park. Turned out to be water had got on the immobiliser, so the immobiliser refused to work. This in turn meant the car wouldnt start until a new one had been fitted.

the immobilizer is an anti-theift device, right?
my car has that. i hope that never happens

Yea it basically means that if someone breaks into the car, they cant hotwire it because of the immobiliser. I dont think it will happen to yours, but it was apparently a really bad problem with MKII Renault Clios. (Which is what my mum drives).

I would check your fuel pump. By all means sounds like it might have to do something with that if you have not checked it yet.

i tested the fuel pump, its good. i have a alarm on my car but its jus a alarm, it dont lock the doors or nuthin. and is the immobilizer the thing where u need a speacial key/chip that plugs in somewhere under the steering wheel? my dads van has that but it never bothered him. i did pull out the wire to the alarm from the fuse box under the dash cuz it kept goin off n my alarms remote wouldnt shut it off. i also have a toggle switch under the steering wheel but i never found what its for, it doesnt effect my engine cuz i always flip it on n off when im drivin...er, was drivin. thanx for your input guys and keep em comin. ima go talk to a friend of mine who is a through n through car grease monkey. ciao

Yep. Its not usually under the steering wheel, but thats the right thing.

ight, my engines not dead! it cant be no!! i love this car man. anywho, i dont have that immobilizer thing and i forgot to mention a small detail. my starter is cranking the engine but the engine just isnt kickin over. all my electronic stuff like my radio and dash lights work. im thinkin i might have accidentally kicked a wire out of the fuse box when i took my foot off the brake. there is a big cluster f*ck of wires next to the brake pedal. also, i jus had to replace my tail, back-up, and brake light fuses cuz they went out at the same time. maybe somethin is gettin over powered? anywho, thanx for all ur help guys.

That definetly sounds like a fuel pump. My dad's car had its fuel pump go, and it sounds like the same thing is happening to your car, as in his. Although, his just didn't die while running, it just refused to start after we just drove it a little while. You said that your fuel pump was working though, so it might be an even deeper problem, like the computer. Best thing to do is to take it to a mechanic.

he said his spark plugs are getting wet...so that means the fuel is entering the cylinder...but like they said its sounds like a fuel problem...could be a clogged fuel line...could be a dieing fuel pump....could be the fuel regulator...could be an old fuel filter.....does it try to chugg when you turn the ignition? what kind of noise does it make...if you comp had a problem you dash would most likely signal you...i say take to a shop in town and get a free diagnostic....if they have those places there!

Try a new cap and rotor. The exact same thing happened to my friends civic. It would turn over and get fuel but wouldnt run. One thing you might notice turning it over is a suttle pop from the exhaust.

first of all check your fuel filter, if that isn't it then I say it is an eletrical prob. Follow your positive all the way out and check relays. Who knows it might be a sensor preventing it from starting up. On my 300zx I had a ignition sensor go bad but couldn't diagnose the problem for weeks until someone suggested it on TwinTurbo.net. You might want to get on a Civics forum board
