Are there no mods for the morning shift? It seems like there's nothing but spam lately and there's never anyone online to take care of it.

Well, our European task force has gone astray, so we're doing the best we can right now. We will try to figure out something for the mornings. It's been the topic of discussion many times with the mods/admins.
Bear with us for the time being. We're doing the bestest we can.

Mods are too busy fapping... Clearly Ebaumsworld shouldn't provide them with that much lotion.

It's not their fault, there's way too many girls who qualify as cute posting their pictures all over here.

dont forget the hot guys for PP
I don't get how a forum with this few active members gets all this spam in the first place? This forum was only massive about two years ago...Surely they don't remember it from then?

Spammers don't care about traffic. I'm part of a much smaller (MUCH SMALLER) forum and we have spam problems, too.

I could offer limited services, but my life and my kids come first so I couldn't guarantee I'd be available all 'morning'. :)

What? A...life? And....and CHILDREN?
More important than.....ALL THIS?
How can that be??

You Mods should implement a 30 post rule, wont help a whole lot but at least it would help some.
30 posts meaning 30 posts to start a new topic.

^Not a bad idea at all. I was in a forum where you also needed permission to access the NSFW section. It was vbulletin so I know it's possible.

I think that both of those are great suggestions. I'll put them as priorities for the morning. Thanks guys.

I love moderating in the morning, I feel less stressed during the workday.

You could also have a 24 hour waiting period for an account unless they subscribe premium, some websites have that rule to keep trolls out.
The problem with this board is too many trolls create accounts and use them for a few hours to spam. If they had to wait 24 hours or even 12 hours to get an account it wouldn't be worth it to your average impulsive spammer.
30 post rule and a 12 hour waiting period for an account would surely make jobs a lot easier for the Mods.

I disagree with the waiting period thing. People usually sign up to post a reply to whatever topic they're viewing at the time. If they sign up, and have to wait, they'll probably lose interest and not come back, or their point will have been made by 10 other members in their down time.

Maybe, but if someone is only going to post a few times or even once then I don't see how that could be a potential roadblock in reducing redundant spammers. I'm guessing spammers make more accounts then the 'post once and never again crowed.'

not sure if it's doable or not.. but limiting registration to only valid emails, like hotmail, yahoo, etc so people dont use spam emails like ... well i wont include them so people dont get any ideas :p

It takes 2 seconds to create a hotmail, yahoo, etc account.
A person could get banned from here, delete cookies and then create a new email account and be back here posting in 10 minutes.
That's how simple it is to manipulate this system.

i know it's easy to manipulate the system, but the instant fake emails take like 1 second while hotmail/yahoo takes like 30 seconds.. that right there is enough to ward off some would-be spammers.
making people have to wait a preset amount of time before posting is the exact same thing.. after that time is up, they'll spam. none of these things are going to stop people from spamming all together, but it's just a matter of making it harder for them to do so.

I could also shut off registration in the slow hours or make it go to user moderation before they can post.

It doesn't have to be 24 hours or 12, it could be 1 hour, just enough time to make spamming not worth while.

Or just get a mod for the morning...
The waiting 12 hours doesn't work. My friend, Internet, made an account and started posting after a long time of lurking when he randomly replied to a post.
The 30 posts before starting a thread doesn't work either. Some people come because they need help or request a picture chopped so they start a thread.
Really, if there's just a mod on the scene during the morning, it shouldn't be a problem. IMO.

It does work.
Most of the sites I post at have those 'rules' and they have zero spam and trolls.
The 30 post rule stops trolls from creating new topics for spam.
The 24 hour window of between creating an account and posting makes redundant spamming non-existent.

What is stopping them from spamming in existing threads instead? I know that wouldn't stop Farty Pants Tickle Spammer.

just because they've implemented that idea and they dont have spam, doesn't necessarily mean it works...
ebaumsworld is a popular site and has a LOT of hits per day, im sure the other forums that you're speaking of are not as popular.

Right, except we're in a position of trying to get people to join the forum, not scare them away with our bull shit rules. Every forum I have tried to join that had those bull shit rules, I have never gone back to. All we need is morning moderation. It's not that big of a deal. Just get someone to say they'll do it and they'll fuckin' do it. Big woop.
