this is about the gas company in my area, frederick gas company. they are saying my family owes them money from winter. my mom has records for all of the months she has paid and checks. but the gas company is saying we owe them money for a couple months and a fee for disconnection and another for future connection. and today they just turned off our gas, no hot water  , thank goodness our stove is electric. anyways they are the only company in this city and can more or less do what ever they want. im telling my mom not to pay them, get records for everymonth we have been with them, and to call a lawyer if this shit doesnt clear up. what do you people think? also the people at the place are extremely rude and when my mom went to go pay them thier money today they threw her back the check and said they would only take money orders or cash.

First you get some ammonium nitrate fertilizer, 30 gallons of diesel fuel, a 55 gallon drum and a long fuse. Then you drive to the gas company building....j/k Seriously Matt, that sucks. A lawyer could probably straighten it out but would probably cost alot more than the gas bill. Maybe your local newspaper or TV station has one of those consumer help reporters. They straighten out shit like that all the time. Too bad you don't live here in NYC. I'm a plumber and I'd install a bypass line around your gas meter. You'd never have to pay a gas bill again. ;)

Quit your job, go on welfare, and file for bankruptcy. It's the American way. Everything is free then.

welfare is needed by a lot of people, but yeah people do exploit it. our plan is to show the proof, but what are we gonna do this weekend without hot water???? lol

you need to get all your records together and contact a lawyer. I bet if you take them to court you could receive some compensation for not having hotwater to take showers etc. for a week(s)

also most county's in MD have a elected official whose job it is to keep an eye on the utilities. Contact your local government and see if you an talk to that person. These guys have a bit of power over the utilities and if he tells them to back off, chances are they will.

you should find out if this has happend to anyone else. mci does it all the time they will charge you 3 bucks a month for nothing and when you call them it takes over and hour and you still get the charges droped for just that month so they go on and keep billing you for the next month. it is such a small amout of mone that it is not worth getting a lawer over. but if mci does it to 10 million people that is 30 million a month. it is bull shit. all i can say is class action

Gee matt. It sounds like california needs some more deregulation. I guess thats what you get when you are run by democrats though.

Slightly related note, the court of austin tx just sent me a notice that i "never proved completion of defensive driving course for my ticket in the year 2000." Even though I did. They wanted me to pay 328$ for ticket+late fees. So I had to go get records from TEA which cost me 10 fucking dollars to prove I had. All the DMV had to do was call their ass. But no... gotta make a buck.

Did she pay the gas bills by check? Can't she get copies of the cashed checks and provide that as proof of payment?

Strange... I wonder why I always thought you lived in California. Probably because you like instigator so much and he does... so I associated you with california too.

Point still stands, sounds like you need some deregulation.

Suuuuuuuue! Suuuuuuuuue! Come on, damages for mental anguish due to anxiety over the payment and the inability to take hot showers, the actual amount you were charged that you didn't actually owe...I say you have a fine case there. Not that I'm a big-city lawyer or anything...:(

lol, no i dont want to tie up the legal system anymore with a near impossible case against a huge corporation that will take years to even get to trial.
