Have you guys heard of that Nuclear Weapon that was lost in 1958 when a bomber had to jettisson it over the Atlantic due to the fact that the plane was injured after colliding with another plane? The weapon in question was a fusion Hydrogen bomb, and this was back when the United States had round the clock flights of bombers with nuclear weapons on board, these flights ended during GWB Sr.'s Presidency. Anyhow, apparently they have found it, or what seems like it could be it off the coast of Georgia, around the same place it was reported jettissoned. Also I should say that this area where it was jettissoned is Wassaw Sound, also known as the place the yachting competition was held in the 1996 Olympics at Atlanta. Anyhow, lots of radiation is coming away from the object in question, and they might even LEAVE it there, because it might not represent a hurdle for the environment. I think they should remove it and take it apart, and use the plutonium, or any other radioactive element in another weapon, and keep it locked away in another silo. Also I think the environment could face some problems, even though they think it wont hamper it. Anyhow, what do you guys think about this whole dealie of leaving it there? What a waste of plutonium, also what if a terrorist organization goes in and salvages it. That's probably so unlikely as the US armed forces probably have it under 24 hours surveillance at this time. Hehehe....

Unless it can somehow detonate I don't see a big problem.

That's how this whole thing got started. Some man is freaking out b/c he's afraid of this. So he's forcing the gov't to go out and track it back down.

Actually, no one really sees it as a big deal right now, so it's completely possible that someone is out for it right now.
Anyways, this bomb is located in the Savannah River, which is all ready very polluted b/c there are drums of nuclear waste buried at the bottom of it. (People joke that it glows green at night, it's so messed up) Yes it could harm the environment, but any changes are thus far unnoticable b/c of the pre-existing radioactive goo. It's been leaking since it was dropped, but it's gotten worse here lately. They're trying to find it right now and the aforementioned man is trying to persuade them to make new weapons out of this one. Hoo, hoo, and aren't I the lucky one. I live in Ga and these preoccupied hicks could care less about the potentially hazardous electron-leaking slime.

Ya its pretty crazy if you think about it Its been sitting around for how long? My understanding was there was no risk of going off as it did not have a detonator in it regurdless there is a pollution risk.

I dont know about salvaging it, but for the environmental impacts and possible remote risk of someone else stealing it, I would recover it.

exactly how many Nukes does the US have listed as missing? Was there on in Colorado awhile back?
