Okay sure... electric guitars can sound nice, and I will never, EVER, say that it's not a good instrument, because it's as good as any other.... but quite frankly, I'm fuckin sick and tired of hearing the same boring shit. Every single thing I hear has some loser playing power chords on a distorted electric guitar. I mean I respect classic metal because that music actually has some musical complexity, but any 5 year old with a simple musical background could write the shit that these metal bands like Slipknot, Linkin Park, Disturbed, Korn, and even them "punx rawx" bands (sorry I don't know any names).
Yeah, so what if some loser can play his power chords faster than some other loser? That doesn't make him any better of a guitarist or a musician. I, personally, specialize in keyboard/piano, and sure... I can play really fast if I wanted, but like hell I'd be able to play some of the shit Franz Liszt wrote. It doesn't sound hard, but holy fuck it's hard to play.
I impressed some loser one day cause I picked up his guitar and wrote a short power chord riff and played it really fast. He actually wanted me to be in his band! Like hell I can play guitar!!!
Anyways... I'll probably get flamed from all them wannabe guitarists out there, as well as metal lovers... which is probably almost everyone here. I just wanted to throw my 2 cents in.

Sounds like your just pissed at a genre of music. I've played rythem and lead guitar in a blues/funk/r&b band as well I listen to heavy metal(mostly thrash and progressive) These "numetal" bands that you listed really suck the big one. Not much creativity, simple music, simple rythem...but the thing is...people enjoy listening to it. even if they dont know any better, if people enjoy listening to it there can't be anything wrong with that. If your sick of listening to formula produced music for the pop/rock industry, just stop watching tv or listening to radio. Start listening to great rock bands like tool (yes, I think they are a great example of modern rock) or listen to an amazing progressive metal band like Dream Theater. They are probably as talented if not more talented than some of the best classical and jazz players. Or, if your into really fast hard stuff get some old Slayer, Sepultura, or Pantera. They're great examples of metal. My point being, just ignore it. The ones who listen to that cookie cutter music are not a great example of inteligence anyway, they could never appreciate good music.

Cliff Notes: Mainstream bad. Dream Theater good :D

I was thinking earlier today in fact, how tired i was of hearing electric guitar, but people like for example Joe Satriani and Steve Vai- they're songs are amazing, passionate, exciting and original. Much of the music we hear today is so samey, just got to listen to a range of music and various artists.

Am I getting tired of electric guitar? No, as long as its used awesomely as it has been in the rock of the classic variety I will never tire of it. Smoke on the Water will always make me bang my head, Bohemian Rhaphsody will always make me scream, and Clapton, no matter what he plays, will always make me rock out.

i'm not tired of electric guitar im more just bored of solos. Thats why i hate jimmy hendrix. Frankly hes totally overrated ya i can admit he plays a mean guitar but his vocals and lyrics are shit. He busts out a solo every two words of his songs. And thats why people like him...cause hes good at guitar and trust me there are people out there that can do the same. So every time a band busts out a guitar solo *cough velvet revolver cough* i get pissed and need to turn the tv off.

Oh please. Tired of electric guitars? Give me a break. And don't take my word for it: take the endless wisdom of Dave Chappelle - He knows as well as anyone that electric guitars speak to the souls of white guys the same way drums speak to the souls of black guys. :D You play a guitar in the middle of a barbershop on the south side of Chicago, and you'll get stared at, and eventually told to shut the hell up. But play a guitar in the middle of an executive boardroom, and everybody drops everything and they're compelled to start dancing and bobbing their heads. It's actually very simple. ;)

Electric guitar rules.

Not tired of electric guitars, but tired of n00b guitar players.

I played guitar for a month or so a few months ago, and haven't really played with it since. Sad thing is that I could probably pick it back up, and be in a local band before the end of next week.

Music consists of more than chords.

It depends who plays the solos because shitty ones are boring, but maybe someday you'll appreciate a song over 3 minutes that you hear on the radio if you grow an attention span. But I'll agree that too many people hold up hendrix too high, I think it's just the image of him representing the era, how he died, etc etc that just makes him iconic, and then people just immediately label him the #1 guitar player in whatever magazine....which is dumb. He is good though.

I don't know. I wouldn't go as far to say they could be MORE talented than the best classical and jazz players of our time. They're definitely in the inner circle of great players, but I wouldn't say they could surpass the great players and innovators of our time (I mean...no one will ever surpass Joe Pass or Buddy Rich.) I love that band, though. I like how they gear their music towards a public audience, but they throw in so many things which only a trained ear could recognize and appreciate.

Yea I'm getting sick of drums as well. I mean shit, every damn song you hear has fuckin' drums in it. When are bands going to kick out their drummers and do something original.

Omar Rodriguez Lopez (just someone you may have actually heard of) plays an electric guitar. He's not boring at all, in my opinion.

Everyone has different styles, so if you're so bored, how about you buy a Lead Belly CD. He played the bassline and the guitar part at the same time, and that just doesn't happen anymore in rock.

It's not the power chords you use, it's HOW you use them. But i know what you mean. Every single rap and punk song sounds the same to me aswell... With a few exceptions of course.

hes tired of just bands playing mindless power chords, with absolutely no musical talent, anybody can take a guitar put there fingers in a certain place, and play. It takes real musicians to play real music. I agree with you, what happened to bands like led zeppelin, jimi hendrix, pink floyd, bands that knew how to play the guitar. We need to start a revolution, we should make a band of real music!!! yeah!!! :p
