How to Record Prank Calls

There are several different ways to record a prank call to your pc. In this thread we wil cover them all. Feel free to share any recording method you have used, or would suggest for others. I have recorded many prank calls, some of which are hosted on the main page. And the one method that has always worked for me is as follows:

1) Get a handheld voice recorder from Radio Shack.

2) Get a speaker phone.

3) Remove all unwanted background noise. (tv, stereo, mom bitching...)

4) Set up your speaker phone near one of you pc speakers. Make sure the mic of the speaker phone is close enough to hear the audio coming from your pc speakers. You can perfect this by calling a friend and testing the volume of the speakers.

5) Now make your call using the speaker phone, and record it with your handheld voice recorder. Once you've recorded you masterpiece to the voice recorder, it's time to convert it to an audio file on your pc.

6) In your Start/Accessories/Entertainment directory you have a sound recorder. It's set to record 60 seconds. You can increase the length by hitting the record button, the go into effects and decrease speed. Keep decreasing the speed untill you have as much time as you need. Now stop the recording.

7) Now your ready to record and save your call. So do it. You don't need my help for this do you? :wtf:

8) Convert it to an mp3 with audio grabber (freeware) (http://www.audiograbber.com-us.net/download.html) , and then find a free sound file hosting site. (http://www.putfile.com)

Does anyone know of a free program that you can download that is a phone dialer, but instead of you talking into a microphone to the person, the sound from the computer goes across the phone line. This would work great with using the soundboards for making phone calls. I don't know if there is anything out there like this, but I thought I would ask anyways.

I have searched around online a little but I thought I would ask here first to see if some experienced prankers know of anything.

Hopefully there is something like this out there because I want to prank some friends. I guess a speaker phone will work but a program like this would be great.

Well I found the best way for me was to get a voice modem and run modem spy. you can record your calls through there, but you may wonna get SUCTION CUP TELEPHONE PICKUP , and reverse it plug it into your line out on your sound card. than what you do is you dial your number and place the suction cup where you speak. and play your wavs/soundboard files. if you don't want to use the soundboard you can simply just not use the SUCTION CUP TELEPHONE PICKUP MICROPHONE. An just use MODEM SPY to record. it brings out a better quality wav. which than can be converted into an mp3. any further question/information for this method of recording pranks can be obtained at renegadez_pranks@hotmail.com

BTW I didn't use a "SUCTION CUP TELEPHONE PICKUP " I used my really good ear phones that are ment for dj'n. if you have set of those i recommend those over anything else.

I've found using my sblive card that if you set the default xp phone dial to record from the mic, then I set the soundblaster mic to record "what you hear", the sounds will be directly played through the modem to your victim. Also if you have a tad connection on your modem and soundcard you can easily record the conversation..Allowing superior sound quality. Plus you wont have to play around with modem spy and record in 8bit mono. Thats the cheapest way to get proffessional quality..

I used to just record my calls by just putting the microphone on top of the speaker-phone. I am OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), so something that might be an average annoyance to the average person, is the most annoying thing in the world to me. Once I heard the “Arnold calls drunk guy”, the quality was outstanding! I can’t ever find a good recorder that will record and have quality as good as that. I bought “TeleTool 2000”, thinking that it would produce quality as good as the Arnold calls drunk guy call, and it sucked! Every time I record Arnold having a good argument on the phone, the static ruins it for me! To the average person, the average static wouldn’t interfere with the enjoyment, but with OCD, I feel like I’m going to kill myself, unless I get an affordable, easy-to-use, phone-to-PC recorder that will have the same quality as the “Arnold calls drunk guy” prank. I need something that professionals/radio stations use to record pranks. I’m sorry, but that’s just the way I am. Does ANYBODY on this board know something that can record voice/soundboard pranks to your PC, simply, easy, cheap, high quality, effective, professionally, without the damn hassle? NO STATIC!!! Yeah, I know you all probably think that I’m an ass for demanding so much out of a little impossible thing. Modem Spy will not work on my computer. It needs to be about $10-$100. I’m probably not going to find anything that will do all of this, but I can’t continue the way I am now. Anyone know how the “Arnold calls drunk guy” call was recorded, or who recorded it? You may have herd of people just putting the phone to the speaker and playing from
a soundboard, or even taking a hand held recorder and placeing it on the phone. I
will explain to you a easy and good quality way to record a prank call with a soundboard
or with out.


1- Download ModemSPY. This means that you must have a voice modem.

2- Get a set of DJ headphone or one with a big EAR peace enough to cover
the reciver.

3- Have a phone where the dial pad is not on the reciver but the actual
base of the phone.

4- Tape one headphone to the reciver of the phone

5- Now open ModemSPY make sure INPUT/OUTPUT Device = MODEM and turn of the AGC on both.

6- Click record in modem spy now pick up your phone and dial the number.

7- Prank them and than hang up. That simple my friends


For people not using soundboards just use modem spy and forget the headphones

Couldn't you just skip the whole hand held tape recorder and just record the call with your computer mic?

Well, I found out a new way of prank phone calling people without using any money taking software and radioshack crap. To make my long story short, I did some tests on the best FREE softwares and FREE hardwares that run perfectly and are EASY to use.

One is this: Go all the way to the bottom and sign up for a free sample kit that plugs into in the phone and computer. I'm not sure if it works for BroadBand/Road runner high speed internet.

Another offer is what I always use. The call corder is wireless and only needs to be connected the same way you always connect your computer. All you need to do is record and you're set. To stop the confusement, download the program and don't touch a thing.

Oh yeah, I also found out a way to fuck up your Caller I.D. so you won't get in trouble. The problem is, in order for it to work you need to gather some shit from R.S. Since this software is canadian, it would be much of a hassle buying the OFFICAL FAKE CALLER I.D. MAKER. Any questions please P.M. me.

This program is absolutely brilliant, It is a VOIP program that allows you to make phone calls to landlines using your internet connection, rather than having to disconnect and use a modem.

The major advantage is you can set your computers recording device as stereo mixer from within audio properties and every sound played on your p.c is recorded (as long as you use something like windows sound recorder ro record your prank), now the beauty of this is it can be used with soundboards,
Now if you use a soundboard whatever sound you play gets recorded while your recording, AND played to the person your pranking,
Almost lossless sound quality!

The only disadvantage is you have to purchase credit for skype and each call you make is deducted from your total credit, however that said it's usefull because i can call any landline in the U.S or Britian or most of EUROPE for $0.017 a minute (thats cheap)

geez dats long.use a cellphone dat lets you record calls (sonyericsson t68i,t610,t630 nokia 7600,6600,7610 etc) and then transfer the files your pc.they come as .amr format so you gotta get a program to convert em like miksoft or nokia pc suite and there ya go :)

I record using a thing i purchased at Radio Shack. Its a special thing that goes right into your phone then into your mic. jack on your computer. Then on this adapter thing i bought there is a place for a headset you can use so. It records perfect.

I have a problem. I have installed Skype. When I make a call, I get a soundboard ready and Windows sound recorder recording. When I play back what I recorded the quality is shyte. Any ideas why?

Also, I have dialled my mates via Skype and they say that the volume is really quiet?

Any tips and remedees would be appreciated. I am still on dial-up btw, would this affect it?

How do u set ur sound card as an input device? Like how do record watever is being streamed to ur speakers. I loop a cord from my speaker port to my mic port it it works but then i cant hear wat is going on. Is there any way to set it as a recording device and record straight from it. I use cool edit, is there anyway to set it as a device?

There is a good progam I use to record every sound on your computer. It's good if you prank call radio talk shows or if you can get a feed through your computer of who is being pranked. The free version of this program lets you record up to 1 minute of sounds. If you buy it for $30, you can record until the cows come home.

Loving the pranks calls...Arnie ones are prob the funniest of all them. Anyway...
I just found an application that you can put on ya Nokia (Series 60) mobile phone to record calls, prank calls :D

Program is really simple to use but I think the only downside to this is there are beeps every so often, you may be able to turn this off but not sure.

I have a Nokia 6630 and it worked fine although I need to play around with PC speaker volume and distance from my phone which I put on loudspeaker.

I actually own a phone recorder, which you plug into your phone reciever, then plug the wire into the other end of the phone recorder, then you plug a small audio plug into a recorder (mines digital) and record it...this is really easy and its dirrect, you dont have to worry about microphones and stuff.

Just google search TRx recorder, download the trial. Trial lasts for 15 days, BUT you can just re-download the trail over and over again. It kicks ass!

I have always used Sound Forge 5 to capture the calls into my PC and then to edit. It's an all in one program. You can raise or lower the levels and even cut up the calls. It allows you to save in several different media type formats.

BTW, this is a free service in most places, but the person can still dial "*57" to trace your call and the last number that called the person will automatically be sent to the police.

An alternative to taking this risk is to use a free net2phone application such as adphone found

By using this software your calls become untracable. If the person has call display they see "PRIVATE" and if they try to trace the call they get an error message saying "Sorry, the number cannot be reached by this method. The reason is that adcalls can only MAKE calls and cannot RECEIVE calls.

O, and just so you know, the best way to record calls in my opinion is to use http://www.odeo.com and then audacity (just do a search on www.google.com) to edit it. I can't remember whether you just get a free trial or a full version, but you can allways get the serial/crack at www.keygen.us.
