When a guitar tab has a chord where there is strings that are more than 1 string apart, but both played at once, how might you do this? Example
e---2----
B---2----
G--------
D--------
A---0----
E--------
Or
e--------
B---6----
G---6----
D--------
A---4---
E--------
I dont see how you could play the chord with a gap in between. (If you just play like that with an open D, it should be a zero, not blank.)
Im new to tabs, they were easy to understand up to this part...
*Edit* Rep for whoever helps :bang:

Well you just put your fingers on the strings listed and you dont play the other ones.
For this one:
e---2----
B---2----
G--------
D--------
A---0----
E--------
You would use 2(or 1) finger(s) to play the bottom two strings on the second fret and at the same time you play that you could use, oh say, your thumb to strum the A string(which would be played open). You simply dont play anything on the G and D strings.

No, I'm pretty sure you have to mute that string by pressing on it lightly (don't let the string touch the neck).

Yeah hurleys right if you just press lightly on the string you shouldnt play it wont make a sound.

You either play that with your fingers or you can try to mute the G and D strings although that wouldn't be exactly what you want.
Would be sth. like
e---2----
B---2----
G---x----
D---x----
A---0----
E--------

Hmm, those two chords remind me of the start of that shit song by the strokes 12:51 (i will laugh if that is indeed what they are)

Like a couple others said, you mute the strings. You can rest the fingers you have fretted on the strings to mute them.

 And just to make sure, when a tab has a number with brackets around it, it means to optionally play that note right? Example
e----------
B---5------
G----------
D----------
A-----------
E------(7)--
That would mean to play the 7th fret on the 6th string if you want to or if you think it will sound better without/with?

Yeah, all you do is mute the others. For /\ that post, I'm pretty sure it's just like a backround note.
