Ive been getting pretty pissed off lately because of this. The thing is that when theres a good song or album, I'll listen to it. Non stop. For ever and ever and ever. Until I know the exact time in seconds when the drumming starts, singing starts, or solos start. When somethings good, I just listen to it waaay too much. Then I'll usually listen to something else after that gets boring. The thing is, Ive listened to just about every good song that floats my boat (toonns of nirvana, alice in chains, pearl jam, led zep, acdc, mudhoney, guns n roses, foo fighters, the clash, rush, and so on.) My problem is, Im starting to get bored of music in general. Well that was an overstatement, but all the songs I used to be absolutely in obsessed with, I could care less about now. I guess its because good music is starting to run out. There are really only 3 or 4 good newer bands that are still making good music. I just bought a velvet revolver and dream theater cd each today. And good god DT is fucking amazing. VR's got some good hits, but the amount of talent DT has, really suprised me. Hopefully these will hold me until I take more interest in my older favourites. But does this ever happen to anyone else. To the point where you cant stand to hear your favourite bands?

You gotta discover some less "mainstream" stuff, not that DT is mainstream. I mean check out some lesser known bands of the same genres you like.

Don't listen to the cd's over and over. I've done that and just get sick of hearing the songs so anytime they come on the radio I'll turn it. Try and space it out, switch up the cds.

Listen to the radio more often and will learn to appreciate the better music in life.

Go back and discover some of the old stuff, there's a lot of it out there.

Or, instead of just listening to more music over and over again, you could go out, pick up a guitar, and make some.

Just a though. :)

Start doing random purchashing or downloading of the genre you like. And if not that try a new genre. And if you want some fresh stuff download anything by the Transplants (sad but true, california babylon, tall cans in the air) to start out with.

Well, musicisdead, you have a good taste in music. I have had the same problem. What sucks is that grunge is dead. Off topic, but could you recommend a good mudhoney cd that has the track "touch me I'm sick" on it?
The only way I can help is by recommend some bands:
Incubus:their new cd (A Crow Left of the Murder) is pretty raw sounding
The Ramones: You prrobably already listen to them
The Von Bondies: Just have one listen to the song "c'mon, c'mon" and your hooked.
The Offspring: You will definently like them. "Smash" is one of my favorite albums of all time.
A Perfect Circle: I am going to pick up their new disc this saturday, I recommend that you do the same.

Also, what genre is dream theatre?

Im thinking the best one with touch me im sick is: March to Fuzz, thats my opinion. I have one incubus cd but I havent touched it in years.Well aware of the ramones :) Im pretty positive ive heard that von bodies song, but cant be sure. Ill go digging through my cds to find out if I have a von bodies one. Most likely not, but ive got some spare change :D I never really got into the offspring craze but I'll admit im in love with alot of their songs, and own 3 of their cds(including smash). I'll look for perfect circle tomorrow :D
I dont really know what you would consider DT in terms of genre. Obviously rock, but ALOT of the stuff Ive heard so far is really heavy. And yes it does suck that grunge is dead, but there are alot of grunge bands developing around here, hey...you never know. :D

Try listening to Therapy. A hugely underated punk band from the early 90's which seems to fit the timeline of music that you're into. The best album's are Nurse, Troublegum and Infernal Love. Anything after that is pure shit. They were the one band I was completely obsessed with.

Well I could understand the stuff you're listening too. But music in general?

My oppinion would be to start listening to a different genra. Then maybe that'll help.

Well, all i can say is expand your horizons. Listen to some The Who, Cream, Van Halen, Kiss, and bands like those.

Listen to some new bands. Like download almost everyband you see on here and keep downloading their songs. Then keep discovering new bands non-stop until you can't possibly listen to every song over and over again and get bored of it. You'll have waay to many songs to do that with. That's basicly what I did. Also, how can you get bored of music in general, I mean is that possible?

You guys must have read wrong. I said that it was an overstatement. My bad for even typing it though.

When I get music that I like, I don't normally listen to it repeatedly. But I listen to Red Hot Chili Peppers a lot, and I don't think that I'll ever get sick of them. I have about 5-6 of their albums and I went through a phase where I was listening to about 2 albums a day. But I never EVER listen to a song or album twice in a row (one straight after another).

i've come across this problem as well.

finally, i decided the only way to continue forward in my musical development was to actually begin creating my own, so i learned guitar.

then that got boring, so i learned piano.

when that gets boring, i'll move on again.

same, everytime i like something, it seems i just have to listen to it until i hate it...
well evryones already give pretty much all the advice you can get, go through older cds, ask people (on the forum, for example) what unknown bands they like, try listening to music from other countries and stuff...
