hey. dont know if anyone has done a list of sad films yet but what do u think the saddest films out there are?
id say:
Bambi (when the mum dies)
Dumbo (don't pick on his big ears you evil big elephants!)
lion king (i ran from the cinema crying at that- i was only little tho :shuffle: )
forest gump (i couldnt look at feathers without crying for about a week after seeing this-don't know why though)
titanic (when the old people sink with the ship hugging each other :( leonardo di caprio dying made me giggle tho)
i think thats it.i know there are more but my minds gone blank. there are a lot of sad disney movies though. something about cartoons being upset/dying/picked on that makes me an emotional wreck.

That one movie about the dog...My Dog Spot or something...
Yeah in Forrest Gump when he sees his son for the first time, and he asks his girlfriend if his son is smart. I can't sound emotional here, but whoever has seen the movie would know. That part always gets me.
The beginning and end of Saving Private Ryan where the old man is in the cemetery are pretty sad.
Forrest Gump is sad too.

It was some persian movie. Don't know the title. I couldn't understand one word, but thanks to subtitles I somewhat understood it. I saw it hella long ago so it kind of just blurred out of my mind. It was about this kid that had cancer and died. Yeah, that's all I remember besides it being sad.

This is going to sound weird but I think the end of American History X was really sad. Just as the older brother explains how stupid the whole arian thing is to his little brother some black dude shoots him at school :( . Really fucked up movie from start to finish.

Best bit of acting in the movie. The best sad movies;
Philadelphia - another Tom Hanks one, he plays a man dying of AIDS. The single greatest-acted movie ever, between him and Denzel Washington.
Bang the Drum Slowly - Robert DeNiro plays a dying baseball catcher, and its simply a classic.
Green Mile - the end is just plain sad as hell.

Another Tom Hanks tissue flick I think would be Road to Perdition.

Saving Private Ryan... the beginning in the present... then D-Day, then them counting the dog tags (nobody else thinks thats really sad... it gets to me though), when Hanks dies, the present scene at the end
Pay it Foward (i think)... when the kid that does everything is killed for absolutely no reason at the end

Boyz N the Hood. That was fucked up. One of the few people that wanna do something with their life gets killed... and then you see that he made it into colleage... and he had a kid..... that was sad.
Another, Ernest Goes to Camp. Anyone see that one? When he is singing the song in the rain, i was like 7 years old and i just started crying and crying... all they wanted was a hero.... all he needed was a friend....

The Lord of the Rings part 2 made me cry.....
I was so upset that I wasted near 3 hours of my life on that complete and utter toss pile of shit. :(
I remember seeing a film called "Waterships" or something like that when I was about 9, it was a cartoon about rabbits killing eachother in gang turf-wars. I seem to remember that being quite sad.

"The Plague Dogs." I doubt any of you have seen it. It's an animated movie. If any one of you have seen, "Watership Dow", it's from the same person.
It's about 2 dogs that escape from an animal testing facility and people fear they have the bubonic plague. The dogs are trying to run away from the humans in fear for their lives since they either have to go back to the facility or be killed if they were captured. The ending is very sad.
Sadest movies ever. :(
The shawshank redemption. Many parts of that movie made me cry.
What dreams may come. I cried through almost that whole movie.
Of mice and men. (might just be me but that was sad as hell at the end.
and deffinatley One flew over the cookoos nest. (someone already mentioned that movie)

It sounds realy sad just from what you have said. I hate anythin that has dogs being killed, I have a thing for dogs (before anyone starts I know how that sounds), for example when I watched Pearl Harbour with my ex she was crying bcoz she thought it was realy sad when all the people on the boats were drownin, even though I knew that this terrible thing realy happened I was honestly more concerned with Cuba Gooding jr's dog (think it was a Jack Russell) bcoz the poor thing was on one of the boats when the Gooks were attackin and when I saw him swimming about in the water and realised he was ok I was realy happy and a great load had been lifted despite the fact that hundreds maybe thousands of soldiers and civillians had been killed.
When I read newspapers and see humans who have been killed it doesnt realy bother me but if I read on the next page someone had been snide to a dog and it died I would feel realy sad and wanna catch whoever did it so I could fuck them up.
I just remembered another sad film, atleast I think it was sad bcoz again I havent seen it since I was about 9 or 10, it was Called Project X I think and it was about the U.S airforce doin tests on monkeys, exposin them to radiation and bad shit like that.

Some hindi movie, I can't remember. I can't even speak hindi, but thanks to the subtitles it rocked. Actually a lot of hindi movies toy with your emotions. Bollywood would just rape Hollywood. The ending was...brilliant...but sad.

I don't know the title in english, but in french it's petit pied. It's a carton. It's with dinosaurs, and the main character is one of those with a long neck, then his mother dies protecting him and theres a earthquake which breaks the land making it impossible for him to reach the only other family he had, his grand-parents.
I swear it's sad even though it's for kids. When I was a kid I cried.
Also Tupac Ressurection is sad. It's very boring but it touches you if you listen.
Something worth dying for... Nothing but pain, stuck in this game, searching for fortune and fame...

Shawshank Redemption. Not the whole movie. Just the part where the old guy gets out and kills himself. I usually have to change the channel or fastforward past it.

the virgin suicides. is the saddest movie in history. no contest.
Its sad from the point you hear the name of the title and watch the movie for 5 minutes. its really sad when Cecilia kills herself in the first 20 minutes. Its said seeing James Woods reaction to it, and its sad to see that the other 4 sisters are trying to hide their sadness once school starts. It's sad that Trip abandoned Lux for no reason, its sad that Parky didn't call mary like he promised, and its sad from that point because you know that the movie will be over soon and they'll all be dead. and its sad because those guys really liked them, but they didn't get to hang around them that much, because of the over protective mom, and the lock down because of Lux being a day late to get home.

If you must know how "The Plague Dogs" ends, I will tell you.
*******SPOILER************
It shows them swimming to an island to get away from the humans and one of the dogs say that it's not far away and to keep swimming. Then it does a birds eye view camera angle of the island and it's MILES away. Which basically refers to them drowning.

Previous post reminded me of one.... I don't remember it being highly advertised at all, but I may be wrong..
"O"
A modern reworking of William Shakespeare's "Othello" set in an elite private school located deep in the American South, Mekhi Phifer portrays NBA hopeful Odin James, the only black student at the school. Odin not only enjoys widespread popularity with the students, he is dating Desi Brable (Julia Stiles), the daughter of the Dean of Palmetto Grove Academy (John Heard). Odin's best friend, Hugo Goulding (Josh Hartnett), drawn closely from Shakespeare's Iago, is a starting forward on the basketball team, and the son of Coach Duke Goulding (Martin Sheen). Hugo has been asked by his father to look out for Odin because of the particular pressures facing him at Palmetto Grove. Yet Hugo is bitterly envious of Odin and the attention Odin receives from the coach and everyone else at school. An introspective and somewhat mysterious young man, Hugo seeks to manipulate those around him to his own private ends. Placed by his own father in the role of Odin's confidante, Hugo is, in reality, seeking to destroy the very person he pretends to befriend. As the basketball season comes to a dramatic finish, conflict among the six friends escalates into irrevocable tragedy when Hugo executes a plan prompting Odin to throw away all that he cares about most - the woman he loves, his bright future, his very soul.

Passion of the Christ. Hands down.
I've been choked up at other movies (SPR, Forrest Gump etc etc) But PotC got to me the most, since I'm a born and raised Catholic.
Instant classic movie, no question one of the saddest I've seen, between the music and cinemotogrpahy, I was in tears. *cry*

That movie with Denise Richards when she claims she was raped by her school counselor might have been sad but I didn't watch the whole movie because I was done masturbating almost right away.

Excellent job one and all! I read every post and I only saw three or four goofy posts (two on this last page:). Some great and sad films listed. Here are a couple of mine:
*Shawshank (I just showed this today in my after school film club. The suicide was sad and the last shot with Andy and Red was a tearjerker--a happy one though!)
*Gladiator (After he gets stabbed and they cutaway to his hand trailing the tips of his wheatfield...and you realize that he is indeed on his way to death and his wife and son waiting for him in the afterlife...niagara falls for me)
*ET (I bawled my eyes out when I saw this in the movie theaters. ET dying, then coming back to life, then leaving for good. No, ET, come baaaack!)
*Platoon (take a look at my picture. When that fucknut Barnes shoots me, yet I manage to make my way to the field? And the slow death shot with my arms raised to the sky...waterfall, man. Water-fall)
*City Slickers (what the hell? Yeah, I got very sad when Norman the baby cow was born, then they had to shoot his mommy. Shut up)
*The end of every single Star Trek film (because I just KNOW those idiots will make yet another stupid film, despite the fact that each film is better than the next)
Okay, I threw that last one in there just for fun. Trek dorks, I'm just joking. I kinda like most of those movies. I especially like the earworm Khan one. That was freaky. And the one where they kick the monster in his knees, only it turns out the monster's testicles are on his kneecaps. Hee hee hee.

Saving Private ryan i was screamin at that guy at the end battle who wouldnt help out his fellow soldier when he got stabbed and he sat in the stair way. god i was pissed. and that field battle when that guy starts chokin up and starts askin to see his mom. that almost had me.
Shindlers list was terrible to, when that dude gets sniped after cleaning the bathroom. damn.

schindler's list is by far the most tearjerking movie i have ever seen. if you can honestly watch that movie alone and not get choked up you are not human or you are a nazi. i guess either way you're not human.
also no one has mentioned My Life. the one with michael keaton as a cancer victim. i know i have lost close relatives to cancer and that one just tears me up.

What was the movie in the 1990's that was about a 12 year old kid and his midget kid friend and the midget died in the end from some congenital problem? I think the movie was called My Little Midget Buddy Is Dead And Now I'm Sad.

Forrest Gump is probably the saddest movie I've seen. (Sorry if it's been listed before, I didn't read the entire thread.)
Poor Buba.. All he wanted to do was own a Shrimp company.. After all, Buba knows everything there is to know about the shrimpin' business... And then he gets shot... Better described by Forrest as, "You got shot."
The part with his Mama and Jenny dying, along with Lieutenant Dan sticking up for Forrest when he gets called stupid, thus being made fun of for being in a wheelchair got to me too. Very sad. The ending speech to Jenny's grave really gets to me..
But, life is like a box of Ruffles I suppose.. You never know if you're going to eat a green chip... Or, er.. Is that the right quote?
