My little town's team won the World Cup of Hockey in 1955....

The Penticton Vees took the Trophy in Dusseldorf, Germany in 1955 with a record of 8-0. Featuring Ivan McLelland and the Warwick brothers, they beat the Russians 5-0 for the title. Whereas the Dynamiters had used finesse and the Smokies passing and teamwork, the Vees beat the Europeans with toughness and intensity.

The Vees were so fiesty that they sometimes faught each other during practices. Jim Fairburn admitted: “I’ve lost 23 teeth so far during practices.”
