As most of us know...the nba season is getting under way. Who's your MVP candidate as of now...and why?
My vote, obviously to Dirk....I mean the guy is scoring 27 ppg, 11 rpg, is a 45% shooter, and a 45% 3-point shooter. He's redefining the Power Foward position...nuff said

I'd go with Dirk. Yuo also have Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett as well. As long as old, fat Shaq doesn't get it, I'm cool.

12-11-2004, 12:11 PM
shit...amare definitely should be in there, but T-mac...no way, the man is having a horrible year except for a few big performances. He's struggling to score 22 on a team of flunkies

Tmacs not in there?
T-macs not having to carry a team on his back like he did with the magic...
Therefore hes scoring slightly less and not getting all the credit for a win like he did for all the 5 the magic won last year.
Now the REAL question???
Howard.
Gordon.
Deng.
Okafor.
Childress.
Bonner.
Harris.
Etc....
Whos gonna get rookie of the fuckin year?

MVP is going to my main man LBJ
Rookie of the year is Emeka Okafor, no doubt.

I know Amare is the man, but what about Steve Nash? This guy can shoot, pass, play defense, and whenever he leaves the floor, the Suns stop scoring.

If the Supersonics keep it up all year, Ray Allen or Rashard Lewis could end up being a strong candidate.

At this point it is too early to even decide, of course at this point KG seems like MVP material, with high scoring numbers and tons of rebounds, he's mr. double-double every night.

Tim Duncan for me thankyou very much...the man defines MVP.

Steve Nash is not the best defender. He's decent at best.
MVP = Tim Duncan...The best player in the league hands down
Rookie= Emeka or maybe Dwight Howard

Hey, did you ever realize that the reason Kobe's stats are so good is because he's the only guy on that team who can shoot the ball?
I don't consider Kobe MVP material so far this season, because everything he is doing is based solely on the system. He is the whole Los Angeles Lakers organization and gets what he wants. You can't base everything in the league off of stats, if you do, you're a fool.
Although I have no problem with Dirk being an MVP front runner, he has been playing extremely well this season.

As much as I like the Laker organization and Kobe Bryant, you are very valid with your point. Most MVP's are players that make everyone around them "better". Kobe is a amazingly talented player, but is still lacking the ability to rub some of that greatness to the rest of the Lakers. This will be a very interesting season to watch.

I say LeBron because he does everything. He scores, passes, and rebounds. Plus him and Ilgauskas totally carry the team.

I personally don't consider kobe the top 3 in mvp right now..even though its early. You cant have an mvp shooting 39% from the field, and a horrible 31% from long range. No one can be averaging 27 ppg with that kind of shooting with out hoging the ball...stats prove it, he hogs the ball. Dirk on the other hand, is shooting 46% from the field, and 42% from three-point range. He's averaging 27.4 ppg. He also shoots 87% from the line, and the man is 7 feet tall!!

Im gonna go with Lebron. He has like 24 ppg, 6 or 7 rpg, and 5 or 6 apg. Plus did anyone see that block against the Spurs last night, Holyshit

I chose Dirk with Kobe a distant second Bryant already has 3 triple doubles but is shooting horrible because of all the triple and double teams he now faces without Shaq if Kobe had a better shooting percentage, I would of chose him.

Great point. There's more to being an MVP than scoring. Usually, my favorite players are the ones that lead the league in floor burns, not three-point attempts.

HA!HA! what a bunch of fucking ignorent idiots. . .
you think Kobe should only make 1/5 shot attempts to
make every player get the same ammount of opportunities?
no dummassess,ya think Lebron does that? no,
he knows his teammates suck so he shoots the ball more(AKA ball hogs)
because hes the best player...and when Tracy was in Magic he did the same,
Kobes playing great fo sho,do me a favor idiots,
go and order NBA Season Pass from Direct TV,watch Laker games
and watch Kobe do sick dunks & blocks then tell me "Kobe not MVP worthy"

Don't forget blocks. Theo Ratliff is gonna be number one on most NBA MVP ballots come playoff time.
BTW Resurrection, you're the most ignorant fan I've ever met. Kobe Bryant is a product of a system, henceforth the inflated statistics. LeBron James is shooting nearly 50% from the field this year. And he's elevated his team to 1st place. Kobe, meanwhile, is a measily 11-8 on the year, showing that Shaq and Phil were the reasons behind the Lakers dynasty. And LeBron ball hogging? He's averaging 18.6 shots per game, while Kobe is averaging 20.7. Do your research before you come and make arrogant posts.

12-22-2004, 03:26 PM
T-Mac isnt there because he was struggling early on this season. All Dirk can do is score, and he's on there. TMac was just struggling when this poll was made, and that's why he isn't on the ballot.

Ok, so now that doing sick dunks doesn't get you MVP, having 4 triple-doubles does? Kobe took the Lakers from perrenial western conference champion, to just another team in the mix, they won't even be a top seed

I think Nash should be in the list. Obviously the Suns aren't winning just because of him, but he is definately one of the main causes. No one expected the Suns to be this good and all of a sudden, here they are with the best record in the league.
Although Nash should be on the list, I don't think he'll get the MVP. Right now I say it's up for grabs between KG, LeBron, and Duncan. KG and Duncan are the obvious ones, but LeBron is definately playing at an MVP rate. If he keeps it up, he should be in the running.

You're a fucking idiot. Have you ever watched a full Cavs game? LeBron does a lot defensively. Take for example, our last game against the Nets. The Nets were down three, late in the game (I'm talking like a minute left in the fourth), and they tried to pass it out, and LeBron came from out of nowhere to steal the ball, and fastbreak it for the dunk. And if LeBron is so bad at defense, how come his Steals Per Game is almost double of what Kobe's are?

i see there are alot of biased people in this thread so ill give my non biased opinion since im a kings fan and they have no mvp candidates. Lebron has been amazing this year doing everything this team needs in order to win, so has kobe and KG. I dont understand how people are saying that shaq will be mvp he gets like 20 a game and maybe 12 rebounds, those are hardly mvp numbers. Same with Dirk, awesome offensive player, probly the hardest defensive assignment in the league, but what does he do other than score? Cant leave out Steve Nash, hes the only major change to the suns roster from last year and now they own the leagues best record. Its to early to say who will win but right now id say its between lebron, kobe, kg, and nash

He could probably spell offense and defense right too. Talking about defense, exactly what Pfef said, Lebron's anticipation is better than anyone's in the league, he jumps out of nowhere for steals and has an easy dunk. Not to mention his ability to block shots, his on the ball defense may not be as good as Kobe, but to say Lebron can't play defense is just dumb.
Shaqs just lucky he was born big,he has no talent,

See, that's why basketball teams like those guys, who are like, you know, tall? Because, believe it or not, the game is a lot easier if you are 7 foot tall

Enough with the shaq being fat, yeah he may be a lil chubby, but come on, hes the dominate force in the nba right now, no one can stop him..(unless its injuries). I think lebron james will get this years mvp. He steped up his game big time, unlike carmelo anthony. The thing about Kobe Bryant is that he too worried about his image. But on the other hand Kobe is a good FG shooter, and clutch time player.
