Basketball or Hockey

Allright, let's not fuck up the thread with endless fighting. Neither sport is pussy. Hockey is full of fights and basketball can be too (see Nov. 19, Pistons-Pacers). Plus, basketball is a very physical sport. Elbows are being thrown, people occasionally get poked in the eye, all kinds of shit happen. At least they don't cover themselves in pads and helmets like in football. Hockey needs them, what with the sharp ice skates and the hockey sticks, but I'd like to see 1950's style football, where your helmet was a piece of leather.

I'm sorry but anyone who thinks basketball is more physical than hockey must never have even touched the sport. Don't get me wrong, I've played both sports, watched both sports many times on TV...and on the whole, not personal experience, or an isolated event, hockey is much more physical than basketball. Yeah I find you can just watch the last 30 seconds of a basketball game and not miss anything...cause the scores end up being 98-96 by the final 2 minutes of play anyway.

It's not hitting it into the goal, it's how it gets there. All sports have the same goal: get some object into a goal (except swimming, racing, fishing, etc.). I'd much rather see Iverson crossing over on Jordan and hitting the layup or Ben Wallace making a monster block than some Canadian guy skating away from someone else while pushing a puck. And sometimes if the teams really suck they don't score any goals at all. It's a no brainer on which is better, if you ask me.

one thing with hockey, if it was more accesible to the youth it would be more popluar, hockey is popular in minnesota, canada and in parts of the new england region, what do each have in common, lots of frozen lakes, in order to play hockey you dont need to rent out shit just put on some skates and grab a stick, kind of what basketball is here in the states. Put on some shoes go around the corner and play. I have no doubt that if hockey was easier to play (literarly not skill wise) it would be more popular.

Its also why soccer is so popular, you could kick a ball anywhere

skating is nothing to NHL players...it is like walking to them...so the fact that they skate is not impressive...i learned to skate a lot faster than i learned to walk.

In the bar that I hang out in, even the guys with money on basketball can't be bothered to watch the entire game. They watch the last five minutes because the rest of the game is meaningless. The difference in skill level between basketball and hockey is huge. It takes years to become a great hockey player, you must start in early childhood. In basketball, the most important thing is height. You have 8 foot tall Africans who've never seen a basketball. A recruiter hears about them and two years later, they're in the NBA.


Hockey: Fast and exciting. You don't have to be a genetic mutant to play, skill is everything. Look at Gretzky. He was 165 pounds and owned everyone.

I agree you have to be better physically in shape to play hockey now-a-days. But Height is a total different story, there are many tall players that are currently in the NHL..someday we'll see tall players that will be able to hit, sticks handle and skate fast, because thats how much the game will evolve.

Crosby is pratically already in the NHL, he would have been drafted if it wasn't for the strike. Another example of an excellent player that is short and has actually played in the NHL is Martin St.Louis, he is something like 5'10" and was one of the most valuble players last year. On top of that he wasn't even in an elite hockey league before coming to the NHL, he was playing hockey for a college team...that is just incredible.

If you want to watch good basketball, watch high school and college ball. The rivalries, history and tradition makes the NBA look like a pee-wee league.

If you want to watch a bunch of spolied babies, watch the NBA.

This is the easiest poll ever. Basketball destroys hockey so badly. Not only is basketball much tougher than pussy hockey, it's a more exciting sport too. Plenty of sports are fun to watch, but aren't difficult at all.

Reasons:

1. Basketball has athletic freaks, while hockey has unathletic freaks. It's much better to watch Vince Carter dunk on 7 footers with his 46 inch vertical compared to some loser skating on ice like a girl because they're too unathletic to move withotu skates. In pussy hockey, nobody is athletic. In basketball, it's a requirement to be a freak in order to succeed.

2. Contact. The pussy contact with pads just doesn't cut it for me. I like watching banging bodies, elbows, hard fouls, with guy getting knocked to the ground instead of pussy punching, gay hits with pads, etc. No wimp in hockey would last 10 seconds in the paint having to bang bodies with guys like Shaq, Howard, Curry, Ben Wallace, etc. A charge in basketball hurts way more than any pussy hit in hockey, simply because the charge has no protection at all, and you are banging bodies at full speed compared to the gay hits in hockey.

3. Skill. Any fag can hit a puck on ice and miss 90% of their shots. That stuff is easy and for pussies. It's not that fucking hard to do it if you miss 90% of your damn shots. In basketball you miss 50-60% of your shots, meaning it's way harder to score. Why? Dribbling is way harder than handling a puck. You can't just turn the ball over in basketball like you do in hockey. You have to control it.

In order to score in basketball you have to be athletic. In order to score in hockey you need to skate and hit a freaking puck. Much harder to score in basketball.

Defense in basketball is 50 times harder than the pussy shit goalies do. All a freaking goalie does is stand in front of the net the entire 3 quarters. In basketball, defense is played by moving your feet non stop, hustling your ass off, diving for balls, boxing out, banging bodies, and is way tougher than the pussy hockey defense.

This really isn't even close. I'm surprised hockey got so many voted considering it blows.

Well hockey of course. In the NHL (especially during playoffs) you're at the edge of your seat the entire game. In basketball about the last 2 minutes are the only exciting part, and that's assuming it's a relatively close game.
