I got a mini bro. I'm havin a lot of problems with it. The battery bar is half way and it runs outta battery. Its fucked up. Do you want the whole album, or just a couple songs? If your goin for albums get like a 10 gig.

Are you sure your iPod isn't faulty..?

My cousin got one and he has like 10 albums on there already and he says he still has room for like 20 more.

ipods arent faulty unless you put corrupted music files on them, or drop it 100 times.

Dropping screws it a lot. I don't know whats wrong with mine. I would rather have like a 10 gig or lower for more stuff. I heard the new one with the iPod mini circle is on the big one for the same price as a mini.

Well, will that leather sleeve thing protect it when you drop it...? I doubt it.. but you never know. I don't know, all I've seen so far are the 4b minis, 10gb and the 40s.
So, you think its worth the money?

idk. honestly i just wished i gotten the bigger ones. the mini isnt as good.

What would you need with 40GB's??!?!?!

JellyCoconut

That's what I was thinking... I thought even 4gb would be a hellishly big amount of space..
Thanks for your opinion though. I'll put it into consideration.

There's something better than a Ipod. Much like it but has more suff.
www.mpio.com and look for HD 100.

The HD100 sounds pretty fancy, but I've never heard of it. Do you actually have one? I don't see a buy button anywhere and I'm not even sure if they have them here in the US.

I work part-time at the local best buy, dealing with customers and have come to learn quite a lot about ipods. I actually owned a 40gig a while back, before returning it because it could not accomplish the things I wanted to do. If you have your heart set on an iPod, I would go with one of the larger models. Even if it is a 10 or 20 gig. It may not seem like a huge difference in space than the mini, but it is surpising how little space is left on a mini after formatting. As for the quality of the product, an ipod is like anything else. Treat it like a piece of gold, and it will work like a piece of gold. Put it in your pocket unprotected, or in a backpack where it will be jostled around, and it will have problems. Its a delicate electronic, and must be cared for meticulously. To end on a good note, I loved my ipod. The battery life was short, but Apple says they've increased that with the newer generations. The reason I returned mine was because in my area the FM transmitter didn't work that well as we have very strong 88.* stations that overwhelm the transmitter. Yes, the ipod can be hardwired into the car headunit(deck), but that required a little too much work on a car that wasn't around much longer. So in conclusion, its obviously your choice. I wouldn't go with a mini myself, but you weigh the options and choose whats best in your mind.

They sell them at best buy mostly. But if you want a good deal then ebay might have it. I doubt it but check.

its normal advertising procedure they tell you how much memory it has in total, what they dont tell u is the formatting takes up about a gig of room. The formating is the programs to run it and stuff like that

JellyCoconut
12-12-2004, 02:13 AM
Oh.. so it really only has like 3 gigs?
But... isn't that still a lot of music?

EDIT: Drty just told me his just stopped working. Are they unreliable?

Kharndabetrayer

ive heard alot about them that some of theyre batteries stop working after like a month but apple says they should last about 4 years or so..but since they told u that expect it to last around 2-3 years....when it will probably be obselete technology and you'll have to upgrade anyways
oh and u know how it says 1000songs? for 4 gigs? it means that u can have 1000 songs that are of very low quality.... and really its more like 750 because of formating

JellyCoconut
12-12-2004, 02:26 PM
Hmm.. cool thanks. 750 songs still sounds like a lot though.
I read up on the battery thing and it turns out, depending on how much you use it or how you treat it, the battery will last a certain amount of time like 300-500 full charges or something. Another source said they last 18 months before they die 'cause they're lithium ion batteries. Thennn.. when they die you send it in to replace the battery but it costs 99 dollars. :\

yea, if you do go and decide to purchase ANY type of ipod, get an extended warranty. Yes, obviously I would reccomend the best buy plan, but whereever u go, online, apple, or circuit city..get the warranty. I don't reccomend it on every product, because every product doesn't break as often as ipods (and any personal music device) does. So, no matter where you go to purchase it, make sure there is some type of extended warranty to protect your battery, and the mechanics of the ipod itself

I am pretty sure I am getting a mini for christmas (watch I won't lol), Mini's I think are more for like people that want random songs and not the entire album. My dad bought a normal i-pod for his school and it is a tad bigger then the mini, though I heard you can feel the weight difference with the mini.

The bad part is the battery does die out, but it can last from 2 years to 9yrs depending on how much you use it. You can just buy a new battery and someone will install it, the battery is like $40-$50, even though the i-pod isn't suppose to be opened they do it anyway. Or send it to apple for $100 and they give you new one practically (or refirbursed, sp?).

Just remember to back up songs, my friend didn't do that to their I-Pod and they lost all 500 of their songs, I don't remeber how, I think she dropped it wayy to many times.

I would get a mini if you don't want a whole album, random songs, cool colors and the whole clipping it to your belt thing. I would insure the i-pod though especially if you go to school and bring it with you. Hope this helps =)

Oh there is a real great site all about i-pods

i would go with the dell's version of the ipod. Its cheaper, 5GB and it looks a lot nicer than the iPod (in my opinion). The only bad thing is it doesnt have games.

JellyCoconut
12-13-2004, 10:16 PM
So pretty much the only difference is the space on the ipod and the new look?
Doc, you have over 31 albums on your mini?

Hey, I used to have a 3rd generation 40 gigger, but while updating the ipods system, it died. Took it back to best buy and they gave me a brand new 4th generation 40 gig ipod. I guess the new wheel is a little more convienient, and also if you pull the headphones out while a song is playing, the thing pauses...that was pretty amazing the first time i noticed it.

On the 40 gig remark, My ipod only has mp3s loaded on it right now, and it is past the halfway point. You can also use your ipod as a portable hard drive, which is great for school and transporting files. Maybe you would like to store a movie on there, so you could watch it over someone else's house... there ya go 5 gigs right there.

For those unhappy with a mere 40 gigs (PAH!) get yourself one of these babies (http://www.apple.com/ipodphoto/). That's right, 60 gigs! And colour! :thud:

Anyone reading this that owns, or plans to own an iPod product, may disregard creative's mp3 products as inferior. Having owned both, however, I would reccommend the Creative Zen Touch (20 gb) with flying colours. It's beautiful. I love it. Granted, it is a miniscule amount bigger in dimension, and a barely noticeable amount heavier, but it feels much more well-built and secure in your hands. I have dropped mine a handful of times, and it didn't skip a beat. The Software is above satisfactory, although I just use WMP for most of my organization. I have yet to come anywhere close to a low battery - even after 10 hours continuous at work followed by varying usage before/after.

No games...... so what? go buy a fucking game boy or ngage if you want to game.. i bought this for music and nothing else. i have about 2500 songs on my unit right now, just under half capacity, but they are encoded at a high bitrate.

at least do yourself the favour of going into an electronics store and playing with the model, i really think you'll be impressed.

cheers

I have had, and still have, a 3rd generation 15gb iPod for about three years. But sadly, the battery is on it's way out. I would not recommend the Mini at all, simply for the fact that it can not hold a lot of music, and that it is more prone to problems than the normal ones. I'd prefer anything but the mini. The only problem that I have had with my iPod, was that all the sudden, the sound got to be really low-quality, probably because I dropped it about three times in a row, but a format fixed that up.

You have to think of the space that will be free with all your music on it. For instance, I have about 8 gigs left. You can put more on the iPod than just music. You could use it as a portable storage device as well. If you put the iPod in disk mode, you can transfer any file from your computer, to the iPod. I use it for backing up my hard drive, and important files. So when you thought that 4gb is astronomical for your music collection, you have to realize that you can store other things on it.

I got a mini,

No problems yet after about a year with mine.

I don't have a problem with the space either, I don't even use my 4gigs i have now. I just didn't see the point of getting a big ipod just so i can keep 1000's of songs i never listen too.

I'm actually getting another one for xmas so i can have one to keep in my truck. For me The mini was just so i wouldn't have to keep 100's of cds in my truck.

Heh, I saw that awhile ago, back when it first came out apple didn't have the replacement program they have now, so if you battery ran out back then you were screwed. Atleast now they can do something, granted it is still $100 for a replacement or whatever apple does with it or just find someone who will open the ipod. Some stores will do that and all you do is buy the battery.
