My town only has two, but I'm sure there are more out there. Brady Quinn (Notre Dame QB) led one of my town's high schools to the state final four in 2001 I believe.
Also, Nick Goings, the new starting RB for the Carolina Panthers, led another one of my town's high schools to a state championship in the Mid-90s.
Edit: One more person. Kent Mercker, MLB pitcher

I was born in Alameda, California which is right outside Oakland.
Baseball
Bill Rigney (played a few years manager from 1956-1972 and 1976 in MLB) is also from Alameda. Chris Speier, a longtime shortstop (2260 games, 3 time All-Star) and Dutch Ruether (pitcher who won 137 games from 1917-1927) are also from Alameda.
Dontrelle Willis and Jimmy Rollins (current baseball players) are also from Alameda, though they are listed as being from Oakland for some reason. If you include players from Oakland as well, you get even more names, including Jermaine Dye, Ernie Lombardi (HOFer), Dennis Eckersley and Dave Stewart.
Terry Steinbach, a catcher for a while (And a good one) lived two doors down from me for a year and a half or so. Got to play catch with him
Basketball
Gary Payton, Isaiah Rider, Cliff Robinson, Brian Shaw (Oakland),

Travis Knight went to my high school....he played on the Lakers and now he's with the Knicks.
Reggie Bush and Alex Smith went to Helix high school which is 30 minutes away from where I live. But I remember watching them both play at my school. Of course we lost by a lot, but it was really cool seeing them.

T.J. Duckett lived like 20 miles from me. Ben Blake, who holds like every Yale football record, went to my school. Right now there is between 3 and 6 future Olympic weightlifters at my school and one just graduated.

There's a lot of people from Cleveland. London Fletcher, Bob and Mike Golic, Elvis Grbac, Desmond Howard and Clark Kellogg all went to my highschool. There's also several other people who went to my school that made it into pro sports but were not major stars like those guys. Like our current football coach, Tom Schoen who played safety for the Browns for a little bit. There's also a guy named Dave Lighty who goes to my school right now, I believe he's the 2nd or 3rd ranked junior basketball player in the country. Great athlete, he has a scholarship to any Div. 1 school he wants..Please go to OSU Dave!

I'm slacking in that category. We have one guy that played special teams for the bears but that's it. Our sports in my town are now fucked for ever due to my old gym teacher. He has somehow managed to ban all forms of competition at all of our local elementry schools. At reccess that can only play with one other person at a time and it cannot be a game that involves having someone be better than the other. Our teams are already bad but in a few years they will be godly horible.

Mark was a TE on the NY Giants when they won the Superbowl. One of the great TEs in history.

I am not sure about famous sports stars who were born in my town but does anyone remember that wrestler from WWF called Yokozuna? He was a big fat sumo guy.
Well a few years back the WWF were in town doin an event just down the road in Manchester but some of the wrestlers were staying in my town Stockport (about 5 miles from Manchester) and Yokozuna was found dead of a heart attack in his hotel room, they reckon he was terrified of spiders and possibly saw one in his room. True story.

I feel so left out... No one comes from my town. :( If I widened the prospect to home state, then I could think of a few, just not right now. But no one comes from Olympia.

I am originally from Erie, Pennsylvania, and so is Caryn Kadavy, an Olympic figure skater from the 1988 Calgary games. I don't think she medaled, but if you pay any attention to figure skating anymore, she's still around in the professional world of figure skating.
And Bruce Baumgartner, a former Olympic wrestler, (in the eighties) is from Girard or some small town nearby, I can't remember exactly which town, but still in Erie County.
I also forgot Owen Hargeaves was born in Calgary my brother played against him in indoor soccer years ago.

The town I currently live in- Longmont- I believe has generated Mason Crosby, but I'm not sure. Mason Crosby is the kicker for the Buffs. Has anyone seen him play? That guy has a rocket for a leg.
