During photography, I was mounting a picture on a board. My teacher puts in some Bruce Springsteen to listen to while everyone was working. I was really enjoying it until about 3 songs into the CD. When this little brat comes up to my teacher and says that she doesn't like the music and if she can put in one of her shitty Cd's. So, she puts in one of her shitty Cds(Fallout boy) and its a piece of shit. Its was like horrible screeching and poppy singing. I just wanted to up to her and tell her to shut the fuck up, I go into the darkroom to avoid the pure shit and to develop pictures and about 3 minutes later her friends and her go in there and turn on the speakers and scream " Now its a partay!" Luckily, the bell rang before I died but I'm still recovering.

It is still out there, but barely any new stuff. Rock will always be around but it keeps changing, and not for the best. I mean look at Limp Biscut, Linkin Park, and Korn, they are a combination or rock rap, korn is the only good one out of the 3 though. Rock then gave birth to pop alternative, a breed of poser punk and pop. Like Fallout Boy for example. Rock will always be out there in the local independent bands, people trying to bring back the good stuff but never make it big. But of all of the lame ass music out there, the one type of music that I hope dies besides pop alternative is rap. Don't get me wrong some rap is good like maybe the old stuff, but like all of the shit they play on MTV, god it makes me sick, that people can walk around listening to that shit and still have dignity.:cool:

Fall Out Boy do indeed suck, but I think that the whole 'bad taste' thing is rather misunderstood. I don't think that it's neccessary to accuse people who enjoy poppy music highly advocated by MTV to have bad taste. Rather, I think the label should go towards the sheep who let MTV do the thinking for them, not looking around and just mindlessly gobbling up whatever the radio and TV heaves at them. It's ok to like Fall Out Boy, but I don't think you have very good taste if you just gobbled up Fall Out Boy from watching MTV's music video of Dance, Dance because you're too lazy/clueless/stupid/combo to actually look around and make a choice for yourself. It doesn't even have to be with a band like Fall Out Boy, it can be Exhorder or Nocturnus for all I care. Something like that can't be generalized like that. EVERYTHING has it's pros and cons. Music has people that listen to good wholesome music, and people that listen to crap. Ever watch TRL? do you ever look who is always in the audience? Girls. This is showing that MTV has turned their back on the other demographics.

Us guys didn't stop watching MTV because we got bored of it, we stopped watching it because the majority of us aren't into pop music, or guys singing about music that attracts women.

There is a few songs here and there that I like that MTV/mainstream plays. But most of the mainstream music is so commerical.

MTV did help expand music back in the 1980s, but stopped doing so in the 1990s. MTV didn't make music. Music made itself.

Scary thing is, MTV is trying to control the tide of the music. Good news is, most people aren't buying into the concept anymore. MTV needs to stop doing so or their network will flush even lower. They need to let the people speak.

Back in the 80s, everybody loved MTV. In the present day, things are much different.

In general the music on MTV sucks, in my opinion, because they are a business putting out a product which tries to reach the widest possible audience.

Think of it this way: You have to buy pizza for a group of 100 people. They can only be one-topping pizzas, and you only can have three different toppings. You will probably get a shitload of pepperoni pizzas, a bunch of cheese, and a few sausage. Somebody who likes anything and everything on their pizza, like myself, will be a bit bored by the selection. There's nothing inherently wrong with pepperoni, or pop music, but there's nothing really adventurous about it either. Because they are trying to please the largest possible audience, MTV will not air anything that is terribly challenging or which defies genre. The more that the latest hit sounds like the last hit, the better. Again, I'm not really speaking to the quality of the music, which is ultimately a matter of opinion, but to the business model that is MTV.

Nevermind the absurdity of putting MTV and Music in the same sentence. Not only do they not show music anymore, the stuff they show instead is absolutely stupid and aimed at the troglodytes in the audience. Sweet Sixteen almost makes me ashamed to be an American. Road Rules and Real World make me feel sorry for my generation, but at the same time makes me realize that I have tons of opportunities if these mouthbreathers are really a representative sample.

i dont think that music is just some activity. i understand that music can be a lifestyle and something more than just sound. what i was trying to get across that i dont understand how people can listen to a song thats played on tv or the radio and make a huge judgement on what the band will sound like. remember the song "Take My Breath Away" by Berlin? it was for Top Gun and the band hated that song after a while because all people did was base their judgements off that one song and the listeners got dissapointed that they didnt sound like their one song. but then again the people who wouldnt listen to Berlin in the first place, are only basing any music judgement on what they hear on the radio and tv.

no. according to me, i believe MTV brought music to the younger generations. my whole post was more to the younger guys who only know about whats put in front of them. television has been a huge part of out daily lives of this generation and the music that is on TV has kept the daily doseage of music in our lives. maybe im wrong in assuming that a "mainstream" group of kids would listen to less music if it wasnt on tv, but not too many people are just listening to the radio these days unless they are driving around in their car and the people im tlaking about arent old enough to drive. its a different generation then it was way back when, and i dont think that the radio would have as much influence on the kids of today as it did before music on tv.

Us guys didn't stop watching MTV because we got bored of it, we stopped watching it because the majority of us aren't into pop music, or guys singing about music that attracts women.
There is a few songs here and there that I like that MTV/mainstream plays. But most of the mainstream music is so commerical.
MTV did help expand music back in the 1980s, but stopped doing so in the 1990s. MTV didn't make music. Music made itself.
Scary thing is, MTV is trying to control the tide of the music. Good news is, most people aren't buying into the concept anymore. MTV needs to stop doing so or their network will flush even lower. They need to let the people speak.

It's not so much the taste that's coming in to play here... Fall Out Boy is unoriginal and can't put their music together for shit. You may like them, I don't give a shit...
