im not trying to start anything, but i just dont get why people like baseball. watching baseball is pretty slow paced since you arent moving all the time. i also get bored playing baseball also. the ball just never comes to me. for the baseball fans, why do you like to watch baseball? what makes baseball so great to you?

its an awesome game and you need to be quite athletic to play it well, its a game where you need to think more so then in other sports, its not just hit the ball and run, while someone catches and throws, if it was that simple it would be boring. Another thing that makes it exciting is pitching, how the pitchers could absolutly baffle and fool the batters is amzing to me at least. There are more reasons but ive never really thought about why i liked baseball, it just came nattrual, that is why my answer may be incomplete.

Some people say baseball is just hit and run around the bases, well, any game can be simplified to look dumb. People who don't like baseball because it is just "hitting and running around" are being arrogant. If baseball is just that, then football should be throwing a ball and getting tackled, basketball is just throwing a ball in a hoop, hockey is just putting a puck in a net. There is a lot more to baseball than hitting and running around the bases.

Baseball is a game of strategy and cannot be played by anyone just becauss they are really tall or really big. Hitting a baseball is one of the hardest things in sports. No clock means a game can be more dramatic. A walk off homer or hit can end a game abrubtly. I agree that baseball is a generally slow sport, but it is the one with the best chance of a dramatic finish.

I like baseball because its full of strategy and long time rivalries. Although it may seem like there is nothing going on, there is. And of course, the number one reason I like baseball.... The Boston Red Sox World Champions 04!

Baseball is a finesse game, like many other stated it’s about strategy, calculation and skill. I love it. I can’t get enough of it. Not everyone can get off on it and that’s ok. Also Baseball has a unique heritage; I like its history too.

i'm reminded of why i love baseball every playoff, when my stomach turns to knots during the dramatic moments, such as Boston coming back to beat NY after being down 3 games to 0, and then during the offseason, when all i can think about is how much i want the next season to begin.

yes, baseball is boring, but only if you don't realize all that's taking place. being a pitcher and a catcher, after every game i've ever played, i've always felt more mentally drained than physically drained.

I love playing baseball because it is a difficult sport, and it is a great feeling when you hit one deep, it is also fun to watch on tv because i like watching people make plays.

Nothing like stroking a Home Run. or Laying out for a line drive. I must admit I miss most of them but I like to try.

I dont like baseball to much i watched the world sieres and the nlcs cause theres no hockey well no other sport really going on other then canadian football at the time,i dunno i dont mind playing it but i cant watch it its not as exciting like soccer or hockey, when you u see the ball or the puck in the back of the net(eccspecialy for hockey for the flames) i go nuts. But people like what they like its like hockey in the u.s. nobody really cares about, look at Toronto and Montreal, Montreal is gone because theres barely any fans there and the fan base in Toronto isnt big at all. I think it all had to do with the lockout inwhat was it 94 that killed the fan base. Dont be suprised if american hockey clubs fold after this lockout if there is no season all due to fan base. They try and threaten players that teams like Calgary and Edmonton are in trouble i doubt that because its a canadian game people live by hockey here. anyways this a baseball thread enough about hockey.

baseball is a statistics game. If you are a stat nut like me, you enjoy it when your team pounds out 15 hits to raise their team batting avg to a league high 291. Stupid shit like that.

I saw the Cannons play a couple of time in Cowtown they had a good team, Edmonton Trappers too. You flat landers have some good ball players. I heard too that In Edmonton they had an indoor golf dome they turned into a ball diamond, you can play ball year round there. You ever hear about that?

The Gagne is Canadian? Canada represent!

Baseball is the greatest sport ever. It has more history, it has more rivalries, and it has more strategy then anything else except maybe football.

like what you all said baseball is more statistic. i dont like statistics so thats probably why i dont like baseball. also baseball doesnt need as much skill as other sports except it has more hand eye coordination. also as i said earlier, the game isnt continuously moving. i like other sports since they move faster and are continously moving.

I'm actually starting to like baseball more than football. It never was very exciting for me until I went to a baseball game. It's so much better live. But then after I went to the game I couldn't stop watching baseball, it was just really exciting to me! I can't really explain it, but it's fun to watch! You just have to be open-minded towards it, I guess.

That's exactly why I like basketball. But I thinks there is statistics in every sport.

Are you serious? You try hitting a 95 mph fastball or deciding whether a ball is going to curve out of the strike zone and at what speed it is traveling in the half a second you have until it crosses the plate.

Try throwing one of those pitches. Try making a diving grab to save a run in the top of the ninth a one run game. To say baseball doesnt require as much skill as other sports is ridiculous. The same could be said about any sport when it is overly simplified.

Yea, seriously, baseball takes a lot of skill. I played for 12 years and it never got any easier. Pitching came a bit easier to me than hitting, but I could hold my own hitting a 80 mph pitch. I maybe faced guys throwing 85, but I couldn't imagine how hard it would be to go against a guy throwing 98.

Baseball is the chess of athletic competition. It requires balance and determination. Those who hate baseball are either basketball or football fans...the sports where, as a fan, you really don't have to think. Baseball has to be a love. If you don't love it, you can never really get into it. It is a sport that flows through the veins of the fans watching. The slow pace is what makes it great. That anticipation of what is going to happen next...here it comes...no no...the pitcher needs a new set of signs. The next move is always unknown...there are so many pieces to be used on the field. The trivial plays turn into the key plays, the useless bench player turns into the game winner.

The 95 mph fastball is followed with a 70 mph change...the wind from the swing and miss is felt through the tv set.

Baseball provides an outlet like none other...for almost 8 months out of the year, from the chills of late winter, to the humidity of spring, to the heatwaves of summer, right into the breezes of early fall, baseball fills the air. Going to the ballpark on a late summer day and seeing a ball game gets us pumped. To be a baseball fan, you have to love the gentle air of the ballpark. Humid, but light. A calm breeze flowing across the stadium. For a baseball fan...a true baseball fan...it is as close to heaven as one can reach on earth.

Then it ends.

For those long seasons during the year, we were treated to the crack of the bat and the smack of the glove. Dirty uniforms, torn turf, and blind umpires filled the diamond. Baseball filled us up, but as quick as it came, it left us. As A. Bartlett Giamatti said, "it breaks your heart."

Baseball is not for the masses. Baseball is for someone with a passion. To love baseball, you have to have the passion in you. The slow paced action makes the game great for you...hearing the glove crack from the upper deck from a 95 mph fastball is pure ecstasy for a baseball fan. Watching a would-be home run taken away by an acrobatic outfielder is the highlight of the night for a baseball fan. A baseball fan lives and dies with the game. When fall comes, he feels the end in the pit of his stomach. But that fan smells spring in the air and is on high...

Baseball is back again.

Watching your own pitch go right down the pipe and having the batter whiff is a great felling. Wacking a ball into left center is just a great feeling. The sport doesnt try to be too flashy and its all fundamentals, you cant half ass baseball or else you will be on the bench.

I tried to watch baseball several times, but i was so bored, i fell asleep almost everytime. (maybe i'm narcoleptic :D )

Might be nice to actually play baseball, but watching is boredom at it's best for me.

I've grown up on baseball, and it is just as exciting as basketball and football in my opinion. It's fun to watch your home team do well, to see guys smack homers and strike people out. I play it and watch as many games as I can. Plus I'm a stat nerd type of guy, and I love all the random info they give on people. Not only is it exciting when someone makes a great play or hits a homer, its just as exciting when a guy ranges deep in the whole, gets the ball, throws, but doesn't beat the runner, not every single is a bloop or grounder up the middle, the game is always exciting. A ground out goes down in the books the same way a diving catch or someone robbing a homer does, but if you don't watch it, you'll miss all the action.

I like it because...

1. It is the hardest of the major sports (by far)
2. Most dramatic come playoff time
3. As someone mentioned earlier, it is strategic and I am a stats freak.

In fact, my AP Statistics class is taking a field trip to the Ballpark in Arlington ( I mean, Ameriquest Field) in March.

A question we should ask is Why do people like soccer?

Baseball is by far the greatest sport. Players who aren't in the greatest conditions can play (guys like David Wells), yet it still requires a vast amount of skills. Theres not a better feeling than to be at a World Series game when your team might go all the way. Some people say the game is boring, but I personally can watch entire games on TV with no problem. I guess its too slow for some people but oh well. It requires you to use your skills, hand in hand with your decision making.
