i have a gateway ev500b(comp) on a NVIDIA RIVA TNT2(videocard).I had my comp rebooted and xp reinstalled and all that and a new fan was put in but wired to the same other fans thats about it.now when i play my games right in the middle of them 1 of 2 things happens:comp goes black and restartes or comp freezes then turns to the blue BIOS screen and restarts.when my computer restartes or is turned on i have the black info screen that shows up and it just says whats in the comp but it says that a CPU fan is not working but i checked them all and they work fine. When i log back into windows it tells me windows had to restart because of errors with NVIDIA RIVA TNT2.ANYONE HAVE AN ANSWER FOR ME???????plz...reps to ya
ps.I played the same games b4 i had to reboot and reinstall and the games worked fine.

Make sure your new fan is connected to a sensor if your old one was. It sounds like your bios is sensing that the fan is not on. Make sure if your fans have sensors they are working and your fan speeds are fast enough. It is kind of hard to tell without seeing your system but something is either overheating, or your bios THINKS it is going to overheat because of a sensor.

well there were fans in their and then another fan was wired to the previous ones.it is bigger but works fine .um like i said when i restart windows it tells me that there was a big error with the videocard.the onli thing i can say about it is that the heatsink that was on the video card isnt on their anymore becuase the latches broke so maybe thats why its overheating.this only happens when i play my games and they use the videocard more then when ur just online or sumthing .im goin to disconnect the new fan and see if that works but any help would be good.thx

Well, ya if you dont have a heatsink on your videocard it will overheat when you play games. You have to have at least a heatsink..if not a heatsink and fan...most TNT models are ok with just a heatsink. You are going to have to put one on. If you have to, go to compusa or a computer store and get some heatsink adhesive. You can then "glue" the heatsink to the chip. You need thermal paste though so it will transfer the heat....don't use regualr glue.

He said it was perfectly fine before the new fan.
My guess would be power shortage. Upgrade yer power supply a bit. What voltage you running right now? And since I'm not familiar with the make o computer, is your power supply AT or ATX?

well there were 2 main fans + one added.i just noticed the fan supplied was changed to a different plug, prolly for more power,i unplugged one cause when i pulled the big fan out sumthing got in one of the small fans and it wouldnt move so i just clipped off those wires.ill take "waysloppys" advice and try to put the heatsink back on or use the small fan i clipped and sumhow put in under the v-card but i think i lost thge heatsink so il have to buy a new .anyone got a price.reps to all of u
