sending IM to phone

does anyone know how to send and im from aim straight to a cellphone. ppl do it to me a lot but no one will tell me how to do it

go to your cell phone providers webpage, they should have a place where you can put the phone number in and send a text message. If you're talking about sending IMs through like AIM, you go to setup buddy list, and theres a way to input a phone number and send someone IMs that way. If it says "you have recieved an instant message from <username>" then it's an instant message. If it's just a message, it's probably a text message.
