I've been seeing a lot of guitar solo and guitar riff threads, but what about bass? What is your favorite bass solo? It doesn't necessarily have to be the most difficult or technical, just your favorite. My favorite is probably either Axiom or Maxwell Murder by Rancid. Now, before you dismiss them as a typical punk band, give 'em a listen. Their bassist, Matt Freeman, is an extremely talented bass player.

Rancid's bassist actually surprised me. Big fish, small pond.

Anyway, I like Steve DiGiorgio's bass solo in Spastic Ink - Words For Nerds.

I saw a clip of Victor Wooten playing Amazing Grace, gave me chills. I'll see if I can find it.

Anything with Les Claypool, that man is just a psycho on the bass.

I heard his bass intro on fall back down. Pretty awesome. Anyway, I like The opening bass solo by Flea on " all around the world."

Jaco Paatorius has some sick solos, with the artificial harmonics and the chorus and stuff.

anything by flea (rhcp) kicks ass, but i'd have to agree that around the world's intro is pretty damn cool cool. Been workin on that one for months and still cant play it... Also is solo in Aeroplane is pretty sweet.

But seriously for any bass fans out there download a Red Hot Chili Pepper song called Salute to Kareem, or just buy the album its on (Mothers Milk). Definitely the coolest bass thing ive ever heard. But Les Claypool's is a close second

Is that solo called the Awakening. Coz if it is, Claypool didn't write that. It was actually Jimi Hendrix's bassist (who owns as well).

I've got Mother's Milk. Is this Salute to Kareem a bonus track or a bonus disc or something? What's the track #?
I haven't tried playing Around the World but when I saw Flea playing it, it looked like it was hard work on the forearm (moving up and down the neck pretty far). I love the bass in Aeroplane. It makes me wonder why I ever used to listen to Classical Thump.

There are way too many bass soloists to just name one.

The whole disc from Michael Manring's "Soliloquy" kicks ass. Nothing but solo bass all the way through.

Pretty much anything from Victor Wooten, Jonas Hellborg, Dominique Dipiaza.

I also have to give serious props to Les Claypool. I love the stuff he did with "Sausage".

Sausage kicks ASS!! I only know 2 people who ever heard of them, me and a good friend of mine, and we're both hardcore Claypool fans. Most people don't know that a lot of the stuff he did with the Frog Brigade was actually Sausage songs: Riddles are Abound Tonight, Girls for Single Men, Shattering Song, all of them were on Live Frogs 1 but they were on the Sausage CD first. Not to mention the Holy Mackeral, awesome as well.

I'm a major Claypool fan. Can't forget to mention what he did with "Oysterhead". If you ever come across "M.I.R.V.'s Cosmodrome", give that a listen. Les did some cool bass work on that as well.

Favorite Bass solo? I would have to say the Bass solo in Pink Floyd's Money, in the Delicate Sound Of Thunder Concert. Guy Pratt is an amazing bassist.
