Drummers are like the backbone of the band..I like songs with a good beat, So a good drummer is the most important person in the band. What are some of the best drum performances in a song that you've ever heard?
Mine are:
Tool - ticks and leeches
Van halen - hot for teacher
Pantera - revolution is my name
Slayer - angel of death
Rolling stones - paint it black
Metallica - battery
machine head - davidian
Rush - la villa strangiato

The breakdown in the song Lateralus blows my mind.
Chambers does some nasty stuff, so does weckl. I also really enjoy Josh freese, really solid.

Led Zeppelin:
When the Levee Breaks
Rock n' Roll
Moby Dick
Surfaris:
Wipeout
That's all I can really think of. I don't pay that much attention to the drums, but I still like them.

I'm not a big slipknot fan, even though im from IoWa. If you go to a concert and see them play .... all three of their drummers together.... they are amazing...

you've NEVER heard of moby dick?? :insane: :wtf: it's off of Led Zeppelin II, it's not that great on the album, but live, i can't even think of words to explain it :shuffle:

I've heard a couple from Led Zeppelin, I've heard a couple from II but not that, and I have no familiarity with III. The ones I know best are IV, which is great - I'll probably buy that one of these days, and Physical Graffiti.

Most people probably won't like the music because it is rather grindy, but just listen to the drumming. He does blast beats very solid and is a very technical drummer who now drums for "Unearth."

i was about 30 ft away when travis baker (blink 182) did a surprise drum solo on a revolving platform that rose from the middle of wembly stadium and did an epic drum solo for about 5 mins. without doubt the best experince i have had while at a gig

He's good. The Red Chord also had John Longstreth work with them on their tour, I think it was. Yeah, he's pretty fucking good too.

Jimmy Chamberlin's drumming on "I of the Mourning" is probably one of his best performances. He just released a solo album this week too, so there should be some amazing material there.

I'll give some more Pumpkins props... I am not sure if Jimmy did the drumming for Machina II, but the drumming on "Cash Car Star" is amazing.

ringo star sucks
yea ringo is pretty bad, even Paul has said in the past that Ringo's not all that great.
one of my favourite drum performances is Kill The King by Megadeth, im not too sure which drummer was in the original recording because the lineup changed so many times over the years, but regardless, the song kicks ass.

For you jazz fans out there: Take Five by the Dave Brubeck Quartet.
Soloing for 84 bars in 5/4 time is not easy, but Joe Morello managed to pull it off.

I haven't heard that one. But you must have heard/seen the new Straight Out Of Line by now. That's something else, right there, with the drums. :bang: A real headbanger.

Eww, straight out of line is horrible for drums.
Simple pattern no double kick. Exactly the wrong music.
Best drummer IMO is Mike Mangini
http://www.mikemangini.com/
Blows Mike Portney out of the water. Watch the Fire Guardian Tour Clip.
But inside of a song, some great performances include,
Death (Richard Christy-drums) - Painkiller
And I'm Lazy right now, I'll post more later. Its a hard topic to think off the topic of your head. More that are amazing!
