Seeing as theres rumours of a Simpsons movie and a Family Guy movie, it left me pondering to myself who was funnier. In my opinion Family Guy would beat the pants off the Simpsons

even though the new ones (well, "new" it startet with like the 10th or 11th season) are not funny or interesting anymore i still love the simspons, i got all of the episodes on tape and the first four seasons on dvd (as you can see here, (http://www.dvdb.de/mb/index.cfm?user=leeroygreen) in germany the 5th season is not out yet)
theres no better animated show then the simpsons, at least the first 8-10 seasons.

be kind if im writing something incorrect, im form germany and english grammar is a bit hard to me :)

The Simpsons used to be good when I was younger. But nowadays you need more dirty jokes and more violence to be funny so I rekon family guy is better.

Simpsons was classic for its time, but now they're starting to have more and more celebrity episodes, which in my opinion is just a cry to get better ratings. Not like they need it, as the Simpsons is one of the best recognized shows in the whole world. But family guy has more upbeat humor, but some of the humor may be crossing the line, like taking horrible murder cases, and turning them into punch-lines. As for a Simpsons movie, it would most likely end the series, where as with the family guy movie, there is no worry about that since the show has already been renewed.

They're both good, but I've played Simpsons and Family Guy DVD's for people hanging out at my house and Family Guy always draws more interest/laughter from the audience.

Yeah, I really hate the sucking up to celebrities in The Simpsons. The worst offender IMO was the N*SUCK episode. It totally sucked up to those idiots.

It really is a simple formula. Get celebrities/bands make cameos or guest appearences to boost ratings, and then hide the selling out under humor directed at those celebrities/bands. That alone will get the Simpsons a new season, not that they need it.

I cant believe the Simpson bashing that goes on on this forum, how can anyone say its not funny anymore? I think its class! The Simpsons was pretty poo for the first 4 seasons bcoz the animations were shite and it was all focused on what a little shit Bart was but now its mainly Homer who is 100 times funnier than Bart, also now they do more with the other cool characters like Moe, Moe just used to have a few lines in an episode (usualy when Hommie was pissed at the pub) but there are episodes where Moe is the main character now.
I think the Simpsons is as good now as it was 5 years ago.
Getting back to the topic though, I do like Family Guy but I just think The Simpsons is the don when it comes to animated comedy shows, I know Family Guy has more adult content in it but thats whats so good about the Simpsons, it doesnt need to make me laugh through shock or toilet humour and its the only show ever that is clean but still makes me laugh and I only usualy laugh at more adult comedies so I think the comedy has to be more clever on the Simpsons bcoz otherwise I probably would be a Family Guy fan.

Family Guy by a long shot, i know it hurts us to think this, but some bonds must be broken. Sort of like Dan Rather.

I used to be a HUGE simpsons fan before I discovered Family Guy. I realized that I never laughed at the simpsons any more. If you don't laugh out loud alot when you watch the simpsons, why watch it? Family guy is just really really clever and hilarious.

I watched the Simpsons for years, and no doubt about it, Family Guy is the better show.

With the Simpsons even their best episodes pale to the worst Family Guy episode. (Not that any of em are bad). I have seen every Family Guy episode at LEAST four times, and I still laugh out loud. Where as the Simpsons will choke a chuckle out of me maybe twice an episode.

The Simpsons is still a classic, but Family Guy just beats it hand down.

"There's a message in my alphabits, it says "Ooooooo""

Well I have laways loved simpsons, but decided I would educate myself with the family guy series at home.. and I really loved the show. But I still choose simpsons over it.. I just have to.

But I swear The funniest bit of all family guy series has got to be Death and his young lover.. 'Omg not again.. im gonna be a virgin forever.. Or Am I..'

Fox ran a little two show family guy marathon about a week ago and in the middle there was a preview from one of the new episodes. It was only like two seconds long but I think I lost control of my bowel for a moment. That show single handedly sets off a humor grenade in my brain and injects me with a daily shot of awesome.

Family Guy ...all the way to the bank!

What about Futurama? That's from the same creators as the simpsons ,not?
Well in any case my top 3 cartoons are:
1.Family Guy
2.Futurama
3.The simpsons(yes ,I know it's a classic ,but lately it's nothing but crap compared to the old days and especially compared to futurama and family Guy)

As funny as The Simpsons is, Family Guy is way funnier. Hey, at least they're both owned by Fox, so there's no competion, right?

Family Guy jokes are way more out there and wacky, and I think I've lost 4 perfectly good pairs of pants to that show. Can't get better than Family Guy:
Peter- "Ok, there's going to be a laser grid right about here, so you'll need to shrink to the size of a household sponge and slither under like some kind of weird, amphibious dolphin."
Brian- "Can I buy some pot from you?"

Or my personal favorite:
Meg- "Mom, Chris found a jar in the basement and it has a hand in it!"
Chris- "I'm going to plant it and see if a human grows!"

Agreed. I haven't been watching simpsons since I watched that Simpsons go to England episode. Just think of the humor potential that episode had: England, Tony Blair, the Queen of England. But all they got was one line a piece. It just wasn't funny.

Just think of how much better the Simpsons go to Australia and the Simpson go to Japan episodes played out. Those were hilarious. The writers just don't exploit the humor potential of the ideas that they make up for the show anymore.

The writers should just ditch the show and move on to something else. Like Family Guy: Four seasons and a Movie, that's it! Now they're moving on to current political satire in American Dad and it's working out just fine.

I've been watchin the simpsons for as long as I can remember, but i've only seen a few family guy episodes. But what i've seen of the family guy I have liked better than any of the simpson episodes I have ever seen.

Family Guy uses more off-color humor, whereas The Simpsons keeps it clean. Comparing the two is impossible because everyone has a different sense of humor. I'll be the first (well, maybe not) to admit I find off-color humor much funnier than wholesome family humor.

Family Guy took off where the Simpsons left off (before it started to regurgitate and suck). But in comparison to early Simpsons, despite it's wacky efforts... Family Guy doesn't stand a chance. You can't compete w/the original, it's just merely impossible. Family Guy evolved from The Simpsons... as well as many other influences.

The Simpsons came at a time when television needed it. Family Guy came at a time when television was bombarded by adult cartoon humor.

Well, it's hard to say, since I have been watching the Simpsons all my life and I have seen any episode from seasons 1-10 at least eight times a piece. It's hard to laugh at something you've seen so much.

But I guess it is kind of evened out because I have all Family Guy episodes on DVD, and there's never anything on from 3-5 PM.

Not counting the new seasons of the Simpsons, I'd say Family Guy by a hair. Although it may have many jokes that are only funny on one-level, they are balanced out by the references. My knowledge of Family Guy episodes even helped me on a couple of tests. For example, this quote helped me with remembering some of the Supreme Court justices.

"Awwww. Not again! *pause* Ruth Bader Ginsburg! *pause* Ooooooh!"

I forgot exactly how it went (I haven't seen the episode in a while).
